The Sussex Coast with Kate Humble. Catch the repeat from 2022 on My5. (24 October 2024).
It was great to provide ideas to the researchers for this programme and to see those ideas in full technicolour on our screens after Kate’s visit to 1066 Country.
This episode showcases this stunning part of the Sussex coastline from Hastings to Rye via Winchelsea and Pett Level. Watch as Kate discovers hidden glens, a petrified forest and dinosaur fossils and calls in on some of our friends at the East Hill Cliff Railway, the lovely Wendy at Charles Palmer Vineyard and the legend himself, Dr Barry Yates at Rye Harbour Nature Reserve.

Come on down tomorrow Saturday 10 Aug to Beeching Road Studios, Bexhill, for the opening of Harmeet Rahal's 'Contraband Zindabad' exhibition at Flatland Projects. Composed of smuggled histories, secret fictions and coast-to-coast transmissions, 'Contraband Zindabad' is part battlecry and part lament. This first solo institutional exhibition by the artist presents a new body of work - a layered installation made of multi-channel film, objects, prints, and immersive soundscapes.
At Beeching Road Studios, you'll also find Three Legs Brewing Company (& taproom!), Common Clay and Unit 33 Bookbindery and Printing Studio, so come down early for a bit of an explore and round off your evening with a glass or two!

Introducing you to the new boys in town - a handsome group of yellow-breasted capuchins - at Drusillas Zoo Park! 🙌
They have already stolen the hearts💘of the Drusillas team!

🐒CLINT: Clint has earned the title of 'pretty boy' of the group with his good looks and calm, confident nature - he's definitely a heartbreaker! He has taken the second-in-command spot among the group and mostly pairs with his best bud, Doyle.

🐒DEET: Quiet boy Deet made an attempt to take the 'top dog' spot on arrival, which didn't quite work out. He's much quieter and more reserved than the others, and likes time to himself.

🐒CHOPS: Sweet boy Chops wants nothing more than to be everyone's friend, and will do anything to avoid conflict and keep the peace - he never tests any boundaries and just wants everyone to get along all the time.

🐒DOYLE: With a natural authoritative nature and self assured confidence, Doyle slotted into the role of boss with ease. He's a fair ruler and although he makes the ultimate decisions, he still brings the whole group together to groom and rest.

This represents a species-first for Drusillas and are also classified as critically endangered in the wild, so will play a huge part in the conservation of one of the most threatened primates in the world.
They can't wait to meet you this summer!

Taking bookings now! As part of the Free as the Fields exhibition, create your own wood-block print with Martin Brockman at the blackShed gallery.
This workshop explores the woodland flora, fauna and imagery of the landscape. Using the woodland surrounding the gallery to collect stories from its hidden past to design, cut and print a woodblock (chap book) image.
MORNING Walk - explore - draw. Exploring place to collect drawings and words from the micro to the macro. Back to the workbench using a variety of resources adding to the story of the landscape to design and begin cutting a woodblock print. AFTERNOON Cut - print - refine.
Continue cutting the block, then print using a wooden spoon and variety of papers from Japanese tissue to cotton rag. Adding colour, from watercolour to collected forest pigments.
All tools and materials supplied (and perhaps some ideas)
Friday 24th May 10am - 4pm.
Contact blackShed direct to book your place.
(Optional extra: create your own pigments with Polly Bennett's workshop on 1st June).
