Spectacular sunsets from Myrkdalen back in January!

For those who don't know much about Myrkdalen, it's relatively undiscovered and blissfully uncrowded. Ski holidays here offer gentle, quiet slopes for beginners and untracked off-piste for the adventurous (like Clare's family by the looks of things!)

Thank you for submitting your jaw-dropping snaps, Clare.

Whether you're advanced or a complete beginner, there’s a tree-lined run for you on a Hafjell ski holiday!

We love the variety of shots Nicks has managed to capture between the trees and around Hafjell.

Thanks for your snowy pictures, Nick!

What can you expect from a trip to Scandinavia’s largest ski resort and nine-time winner of Sweden's Best Ski Resort, Åre?

"A friendly resort, with a very efficient lift service and a long season with good snow."

A solid summary from Craig Irvine who visited in April 2024.

Thank you for your submissions, Craig. A great mix of scenic and family photos!

The latest entry to our photo competition comes from Rhys Henderson who experienced our Colorado Ski Safari back in early April!

Not sure what a Colorado Ski Safari is?

It's a classic combination of Colorado's powder resorts - Keystone Resort and Breckenridge Ski Resort - and ski towns, with miles of groomed terrain, great glade skiing and easy drives between them.

We were also able to tailor Rhys' ski safari to include four nights in Boston!

Brilliant photos Rhys, thanks for sharing them with us.

Looking for a family resort for winter 2024/25? Trysil has to be in contention!

It's one of our most popular resorts for families because of the excellent variety of skiing on the slopes. Off the slopes, there's plenty to keep children and teenagers happy including dog sledding as Simon found out on his recent trip to in April this year.

Here's what Simon thought:

"Great resort with everything nearby including the slopes. The slopes have something for everyone and is a fantastic family resort with great ski school."

Thanks for the review and for sharing your photos with us Simon!

One of our customers Mark Alker flying high on a bluebird day in Whistler Blackcomb back in March!

Here's what Mark had to say about Whistler:

"The Disney of snow resorts. Something for everyone here at the world's most award-winning resort."

Brilliant freestyle shots, Mark! Whistler is a great resort for many reasons, and one of them has to be the stunning skiing scenery as shown in your pictures! Thank you for sharing with us.

"This was our first ski trip to Norway - we received great advice and service. Our experiment with Norway was a huge success thanks to Ski Safari.

Norefjell was pretty, efficient, calm and brilliant for a multi-generation ski holiday. Plenty of easy runs but sufficient harder skiing and off-piste skiing to keep the whole family happy."

We'll cheers to that! We're always happy to see skiers convert to the Norwegian way.

Thanks for your photos and lovely review of Norefjell Skisenter, Caroline.

"Great resort with skiing for all. Really impressed by the service and ability to suit all levels. Had a great time doing off-piste and ski touring as well. The floating sauna is a must too."

Thanks for the photos Emmanuelle, and for continuing this week's running resort mascot theme with your snap of Huski!

We're glad you had a good time venturing off-piste in Gausta. When our team visited back in April April, the advanced skiers amongst us were pleasantly surprised at how accessible the off-piste areas were and at the amount of fresh snow to play in!

How Cold and Dark Is It Really in Norway? ❄️

In the depths of winter 2024, six of the Ski Safari team set off on a road trip across Norway, visiting Beitostølen Resort, Geilo Norefjell Skisenter and our latest resort, Gausta.

If you’ve never been to Norway in January, you may have the preconception that the sun only pops up for an hour a day and you’ll need specialist arctic equipment to shield yourself from the cold. Aside from gaining a first-hand experience of each destination, the aim of their trip was to prove these misconceptions wrong.

Find out how they got on here: https://www.skisafari.com/blog/trip-report-how-cold-and-dark-is-it-really-in-norway

"Great resort, ideal for families. Lots of green and blue runs for family skiing. Slopes and lifts were relatively quiet. Buses were relatively reliable but the hotel was only a short walk. Ski pass pick up was quick, ski hire was quick, lockers were essential if you were walking. The BBQ huts on the slopes were ideal for lunches and we used them every day."

Hafjell ticked all the boxes for Martyn and his family on their spring ski holiday.

Gausta has been a resounding success in our first season working together, quickly becoming one of our most popular and highest rated resorts - not just in Norway but across our entire programme!

Since his first visit last summer, Norway Product Manager Andy Hemingway has visited another three times during the season including most recently in late April:

"I was delighted to take the whole Ski Safari team to Gausta for our end of season ski weekend. We managed to fit a lot into a couple of days - the unique Gaustabanen funicular railway, skiing soft, fresh snow (in late April!), relaxing in the floating saunas, sampling delicious food at Gaustablikk Fjellresort, Stova and Bakeriet, and of course dancing on the tables at the lively afterski in Loftet. But nothing will beat our sunset descent from Gaustatoppen."

To find out why we (and our customers) love Gausta so much, read Andy's updated blog on '10 Things We Love About Gausta' - https://www.skisafari.com/blog/10-things-we-love-abo

Gausta had a great debut season on the Ski Safari programme, with one happy customer after another. Fiona skied Gausta in March, staying in one of the charming Gaustablikk Cabins and took some lovely photos while she was out there.

"Great cabins, cosy and easy access to the slopes. Lots of room and comfortable in all areas."

📷: Fionna MacInnes - Gausta, Norway - March 2024

17/05/2024

On our end of season company ski weekend in Gausta, more experienced members of the Ski Safari team were lucky enough to enjoy a stunning sunset descent from Gaustatoppen.

As it was 9pm, conditions were icy right at the top but soon gave way to lovely soft snow, with whole areas of untouched powder despite it being days since the last snowfall.

The gentlest route down Gaustatoppen is marked but unpisted and unpatrolled, suitable for entry-level off-piste skiers when conditions are good.

Our team headed off the marked trail with the help of Sturla from Gausta Topptur - who we highly recommend for anyone wanting to take on the exciting descent.

For those who don't know, even the trip up to Gaustatoppen is exciting, taking an electric tram 850 metres horizontally into the mountain before switching to a vertical tramway which takes you up 1,040 metres at 39 degrees.

The whole journey takes around 15 minutes and it feels like you're making your way into a James Bond villain's lair.

We can't get enough of these OUTSTANDING photos from Ski Safari customer Anthony captured on his Christmas family ski holiday in Trysil. Here's what he had to say about their time in Norway's biggest resort:

"We love Trysil and this was our 3rd time skiing here. Trysil is small enough to feel personal with minimal queues for the lifts, but large enough to not have to repeat runs every day. Brilliant learner slopes, a great choice of long blues and red, and some scary blacks if that's your thing. Already looking forward to coming back."

Did you know that we also do cycling? If you like our ski holidays, our Founder Richard thinks you’ll love the Freedom Treks way of travel too!

"I still fondly remember my first bike tour in Croatia back in 2012 and I’ll be returning there with my family this summer. Freedom Treks tours have become an annual tradition for us, and I’ve been lucky enough to see a huge amount of Europe by bike over the years. I’ve even made it as far afield as Thailand to test out our Asia programme!

Freedom Treks joined the Ski Safari family in 2011, offering leisurely bike tours in Europe and Asia with the same superb knowledge, honest advice and excellent customer service as our ski team.

If you’re not sure what a cycling holiday entails, there’s a huge amount of variety across our 180+ tours.

You can opt for self-guided, where you cycle at your own pace following route notes, maps and GPS tracks, or guided, where you cycle as a group with a knowledgeable, English-speaking local guide. Then you can choose Hotel & Bike or Boat & Bike, easy-going riverside routes or more challenging coastal climbs, world-famous cycle paths or paths less cycled.

I could go on and on about all the wonderful ways to see more of the world by bike, but I’d recommend you speak directly to the knowledgeable Freedom Treks team on 01273 224066. They’re based in the same office as Ski Safari and many of them work across both brands, so you know you’re in good hands.

Or head to our website where we have lots of helpful filters on our tour search to help you find and book your perfect holiday."

Our Story

We’ve been tailor-making ski holidays since 1996, when our founders Richard and Samantha Rice first started Ski Safari. Back then, only a few UK companies were organising ski trips to North America but Richard and Sam were convinced that other Brits would love skiing in Canada as much as they did.

Offering more freedom than other ski operators, Richard and Sam gave skiers the option to see more of the country they were visiting, and to ski at multiple resorts. This led to our pioneering ‘ski safari’ concept, which is now a defining feature of our brand.

Today, we remain true to our roots. Richard and Sam still own 100% of Ski Safari, which is run by our friendly team of skiers and snowboarders from our coach-house offices, close to the beach in Hove. Our concept is the same as it was back in 1996 - we offer quality ski holidays that are tailor-made using first-hand knowledge and delivered with outstanding service.
