Have you had chance to watch our four new films about the mental and physical health benefits of green laning? 🌿 💚
They’re a great watch and feature the stories of eight of our members who have faced mental and physical health challenges including: cerebral palsy, back pain, cancer, depression, osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, alcohol abuse and breathlessness. Each of the films shows how getting out into the countryside in a 4x4 or on a motorbike has helped their minds, bodies and souls.
Featuring in one of the films are Colin and Tamara, from Northamptonshire, who had always been keen walkers until ill health made them reassess how they access the countryside. Tamara has been diagnosed with and nerve damage and Colin has , meaning he has severe fatigue and aches and pains.
After meeting through work, they became a couple 15 years ago and have been married for the last six years. Both have found that green laning – legally driving on unsealed public rights of way - has been vital for their mental health. Getting out in nature has helped them to manage the frustrations of their conditions as well as meeting new people and providing a pastime where their health conditions are not obvious to all and they can participate without adaptations or outward signs of their physical limitations.
“Green laning has brought the outdoors back to us rather than being stuck at home watching the telly all the time,” said Colin.
