Good luck to Elise ! She stayed at The Bothy while she trained in the mountains of Eryri Xx

Sounds a bit scary when you put it like this.

I’ve been so distracted on finding film funding, I’m only just processing that I do actually have to climb a very big mountain. In a very itchy, heavy, fabulous outfit 👒

All the idea, no gear. 🏔️

It has been lovely to have the amazing Elise Wortley to stay at the Bothy.
Check out “Woman with Altitude” and Channel 4’s Alone where she did so very well to become the runner up after many days of survival in the far reaches of Canada

She has come to Eryri to train for her expedition up Mont Blanc in September. She is following the footsteps of Henriette d’Angeville who was a C19th mountaineer, exceptional for her time. Elise will be wearing the clothes of the era and not the lightweight technical gear of today.

Elise is aiming to “ bring to life the incredible stories of history’s forgotten adventurers, by literally walking in their foot steps”

Here she is just after completing the Snowdon Horseshoe in not the best of weathers!

Love this time of year. The lanes are full of wild flowers. Just on the lane approaching CochHir there loads of delicate cow parsley and there’s stitchwort, herb Robert, foxgloves opening up and the bluebells are just going over now. There’s a smell of blossom everywhere too !!

Bit of local history !

Castle Name: Dolbadarn
Built by: Llywelyn Fawr (Llywelyn ap Iorwerth, "the Great")
Location: Llanberis Pass, Eryri, Gwynedd
Native/Non-Native: Native
Year Built: Early 13th Century (1220s-1230s)
Overseer: Cadw Cymru

Nestled amidst the breathtaking landscape of Eryri, you'll find Castell Dolbadarn, a testament to Cymru's early medieval history. This native Welsh castle was constructed by Llywelyn the Great in the early 13th century, a ruler who sought to protect and assert the sovereignty of his people.

Castell Dolbadarn is a circular stone tower perched on a hill overlooking Llyn Padarn. Its strategic location allowed it to control vital routes through the Eryri, making it a symbol of Welsh strength and defiance in the face of English incursions.

Llywelyn the Great, known for his leadership during an arguable golden era of Welsh independence, left a legacy that endures through this castle. Dolbadarn served as both a fortress and a statement of Welsh resistance to external rule.

Today, Castell Dolbadarn stands as a ruin, but its walls and tower remain a fascinating window into the past. Visitors can climb the tower to take in sweeping views of the surrounding landscape and imagine the challenges and triumphs of this native Welsh stronghold.

Castell Dolbadarn exemplifies Cymru's early medieval history and the determination of its people to maintain their identity and heritage. It's a captivating destination for history enthusiasts and those seeking a deeper connection to Cymru's past.
