There was a film called Field of Dreams in which Kevin Costner says “Build it and they will come”. I noticed this tragic story in the local newspaper. Charlie Quarterman from Syresham, near Silverstone, was diagnosed with a rare brain tumour on March 22, after only experiencing symptoms around two days before. The 11-year-old Northamptonshire boy, who has been told he has nine to 12 months to live, has put meeting Tom Holland at the top of his bucket list. So, let’s all build it with a send to all, and who knows?

“We just want to give Charlie as much of a quality of life as possible in the short time he has”

It’s amazing how much can be achieved when people get together and share their support for a worthy cause and there is no better example than the event orchestrated by MaSh Dance on Saturday night. The event, , hosted at Wicksteed Park in Kettering was themed on the popular TV show and entertained more than 800 people who attended to share their support. Members of the dance school dedicated many hours over several months to perfect their dance routines and were judged on their performance by a panel of Strictly judges. The event raised an incredible £56,000.00 on the night and helped raise awareness to , a rare childhood cancer. It was an honour for Medpage to be a sponsor, albeit in a small way. Congratulations to everyone involved.

Another blast from the past (1986)

During an inventory inspection some items had to be relocated in our warehouse. When several pallets were moved away from a window, on the windowsill amongst some ancient product samples were a handful of old photographs. When they were handed to me, I had to think for a moment what they were. Amazing. They are from an article featured by the BBC See Hear programme in 1986. I photographed (screen shots the old way with a real camera) our first vibrating alarm for deaf people being described for viewers by Ashley Kendall (big thanks to Karen for the identification). I was hoping to find photographs of me desperately trying to offer Princess Dianna one of our alarm clocks from our exhibition stand at the conference in Brighton 1990, where she was the first Royal to use in public. After a gorgeous smile, she said “you know I cannot take one, but thank you for the offer”.

My Son Callum was given 10 months. 10 months to learn the Cha Cha Cha, Hoochie McCoochie, and several of the classic Ballroom dances, so that he could take part in a local version of Come Dancing to support a very worthy charity. Amazingly, he moves and looks like a proper dancer after cutting off his rocker locks, and spending most of his spare time practicing. Please support him if you can, every penny counts but a couple of quid would be better. A Good Buzz from the 90’s

While tidying my office, I found an old doorbell button with a pager amongst a pile of obsolete gadgets and the memories came flooding back. I owe so much to the doorbell button and pager in the photo, and my lifelong friend Steve Smith at SJS Services. Why? After several years of making warning alarm devices for people that included vibration and or a flashing light alert of some kind, my brother and I decided to explore new markets that could potentially make use of our products. Research was not quite the same in the early 90’s with no internet providing instant answers and reference. However, by some remarkable stroke of luck we received an enquiry from an Occupational Therapist looking for a device to detect and raise an alarm to epileptic seizures for her client’s daughter. We invented a concept, designed it, made it work, then produced a working prototype. Our stumbling block was that the new monitoring device needed a wireless alarm to alert the parents to the in their own bedroom. Enter the Friedland doorbell pager. We modified the doorbell transmitter to send an alarm signal to the pager when the monitor detected a seizure. After successful trials with the guineapig family, the system launched into commercial production and after 30 years remains the top selling device of its kind in the UK. Of course, no longer using a Friedland doorbell as the parent alarm.

We had entered a new market where technology was rapidly becoming commonplace to enhance Social Care, disabled living, and the new buzzword of the day “Telecare”. We quickly deployed our wireless alarm ideas into daily living aids making the first wireless alarms for bed occupancy, door alarm wander warnings, and a host of wireless sensor devices. All because we had been introduced to the wireless doorbell pager by Steve Smith, who specialises in products for people with moderate to severe hearing loss. As a main distributor for Friedland at the time, Steve negotiated a deal on our behalf involving thousands of pager kits. Thanks to Steve, and thanks to Friedland.

Our Story

Medpage Limited T/A Easylink UK, established 1984, has provided affordable quality care electronic products for over 30 years to individual consumers, and professional healthcare. Our catalogue of products includes monitors to detect epileptic seizures, daily living aids, sensory loss assisting devices, fall prevention and wander detection alarms, help call systems, access control and video monitoring systems, memory and communications aids and security products.

We invented the first portable alarm clock to wake deaf people, the first wireless baby monitor for deaf people, the first epilepsy seizure alarm to have a portable alarm receiver, the first recordable memory prompting aid for people with Alzheimer’s disease, the first memory prompting aid for people with Alzheimer’s that used pre-installed reminder videos, voice memos and pictorial reminders.

In June 2018 we announce the launch of the MemRabel 2i

When people are forced to live independently life brings new challenges, especially when failing memory complicates daily living. Friendly memory prompts at selected times of the day can greatly assist a person to plan their day, remember to take medications, eat, drink, and remember appointments etc.
