I post a picture of these wonderfully happy daffodils every year, they are always in bloom on New Year’s Day on the village green just down the road. They are very early but give such hope for Springtime on the way. In the meantime, we have dark and gloomy January and February to wade through, I know the days are getting longer but it doesn’t feel like it yet but think of all those cosy evenings with some stitching before you feel that you have to get out in the garden!
My new hip is very successful (thank you so much for all the good wishes) and I am working on my diary and planning shows for this year which are listed on my website (www.SueHawkins.com) and I am so looking forward to seeing you all somewhere – I will have new designs to show you.

As many of you know I have been having hip problems and am due a hip replacement operation. Very sadly it has meant that I haven’t been able to be at the shows that I usually attend, this includes The Knitting and Stitching Show at Harrogate that is on now. Many of you know that I am out of action this Autumn as far as the shows go due to needing hip replacement surgery that I am nearly due for. But I have decided to be at The Big Textile Show this coming weekend at Leicester Racecourse. It’s only on for two days and is smaller than Ally Pally and Harrogate and I think I can hobble around well enough to be there. NEWS FLASH
I can’t believe that The Knitting and Stitching Show at Alexandra Palace starts this week and I won’t be there! Some of you know that I have been struggling with bad hips and I am about to have hip replacement surgery and so Ally Pally wasn’t possible for me this year - I think I have been at the show for at least the last twenty years without a break. Unfortunately the same will apply to the Harrogate Show too. I love the shows and will miss everybody dreadfully but I hope next year to be dancing in the aisles again! So please spread the word that I haven’t retired or gone out of business - just going into the pits for a bit of maintenance!

This is the view from my stand at Ally Pally - just look at all the space now built into the show. Just to reassure anybody who would like to come but feel worried about how crowded it usually is. I think we all enjoyed our day yesterday.
Next week I’ll be in my usual corner just inside the textile gallery from the main hall at the Knitting and Stitching Show at Ally Pally and looking forward to seeing you there if you are coming. Really excited to be back at the shows.

Lots of you have asked me for bigger thread holders sticks and here they are. These are about twice the size of the ones that I have been selling for finer threads but they take the wools for my larger kits. They are made for me in Cornwall in sustainable bamboo and are on the website now.
I am so pleased to be able to tell you that I have just had a stand at The Festival of Quilts at the NEC. It felt so good to be amongst like-minded people again and the show was really well organised in a very safe way with loads of space and safety measures. We were all very happy and it was a joy to be out again after so, so long! It also bodes very well for The Knitting and Stitching shows at Alexandra Palace and Harrogate as they are both put on by the same organisers and I have just heard that both shows are to go ahead.
I have been busy whilst locked away at home but actually I have to admit that enthusiasm waxed and waned a bit at times – a bit more sunshine would have helped! Now, after the show, I am ready to rock and roll again!
I have now finished a cushion and pincushion panel using the same pattern as my Oriental Doorstop and a set of cubes as pincushions or scissor keepers that will double as bookmarkers, all with a tiny stork scissor charm included. I took all these with me to The Festival of Quilts but now they are all loaded on the website for you all to see.
