Come along on Saturday to The Old Library between 10:30am and 2:30pm and get your bike safety checked and any minor repairs carried out for free by 1st Step. Any soft toys can also be given some TLC as part of our cuddly toy hospital! We're also taking donations of bikes and soft toys to pass on to local charities.

Our pals at Narrowboat Farm have had a break in and had a bike and tools stolen. Keep your eyes peeled for this distinctive bike.

Our workshop was broken into this evening (27th Jan 2020) and a lot of stuff nicked including chainsaws and a Stihl Strimmer. Also my beloved mountain bike pictured here.

Happy New Year and a huge THANK YOU to everyone that supported 1st Step in 2019!

Got a new bike for Christmas?
Got an old bike at the back of your shed or parts that used to be a bike and are bow just gathering dust??

People were very generous last year but we are now needing more bikes to work on.

Please donate your old bike to us and give it another chance!

1st Step Bikes recycles and refurbishes bikes and parts and then either donates them to people in need ( this includes the West Lothian Refugee Project who do great work) or sell them to help raise funding for our work supporting recovery.

By donating your old bike or parts not only do you save your preloved bike and get it back on the road you can HELP people in our communities many recovering from addiction, poor mental health and isolation on their recovery journeys.

Donating is easy just message us or email [email protected] and we can arrange a drop off location or come and collect.

It's wonderful when we get feedback from people who take part in our courses or training, or hire our bikes. This is from someone who took part in our bike maintenance session last week "Just a quick note to say thank you for putting on the bike maintenance session. I found this extremely beneficial and feel more confident about sorting out basic issues".

We are hoping to put more free bike maintenance classes on soon so watch this space!

Bike sale this Saturday for kids and young people - with a limited range for adults too. Get in early as it's always a popular sale!

Looking for a new bike for the little person in your life? 1st Step have their next bike sale this Saturday - 10am til 12pm, in the car park behind Autobits (EH49 7EN).

This sale is mainly for kids and young people, but 1st Step will have a limited range of some adult bikes for sale too. Refreshments will be available at St John's Cafe, for donations to 1st Step.

It's best to get early as their sales are always popular!

We had lots of fun talking to S5 and S6 today about all the current volunteering opportunities today. If anyone, young or old, is looking to volunteer specifically on travel related projects, we are looking for social media and article writing, photography and design skills. We’re also looking for people to help out on project support, such as volunteering at events, taking led bike rides and more.

Wendy and Neil are at Linlithgow Academy today for the Volunteer Roadshow! We're talking to 5th and 6th years about all the exciting volunteering opportunities we have at Transition Linlithgow!

The Gruffalo decided that cycling on one of our electric bikes would be far better than strolling through the deep dark wood.

Thanks to Far From The Madding Crowd Linlithgow for having us at The Gruffalo's Picnic on Sunday at the Rugby Club and thanks to everyone who came to chat to us about walking, cycling and public transport in Linlithgow.

One of our Nordic Walkers told us this morning that despite living in Linlithgow since 1986, on today's Nordic walk she found parts of Linlithgow she'd never been in before! Join us every Thursday at 10:30am at Transition Linlithgow - you never know what you might discover!

Thanks to everyone who joined us on our led walk around Beecraigs Country Park on Monday - what a great day where we learned so much about edible plants, exploding trees (!) and much more.

Our next walk is tomorrow (Thursday 23rd May), where we are running our Nordic Walking group. Join us at 10:30am at Transition Linlithgow for an hour's walk followed by refreshments. It's free to take part in this weekly walk, just email us on [email protected] if you would like to join us.
