“Dear D-Day 80 enthusiast,

Today is focused on the move to Normandy.

Several of the aircraft were making trips to Normandy yesterday and just like in 1944 the logistics have proved challenging. That’s All Brother got back late last night and needed to divert to Duxford for an out of normal operating hours landing.

The approximate timings for today are:

10.00

C47 Pegasus, C47 Placcid Lassie, DC3 Western Airlines, DC3 Spirit of Douglas will fire their engines around 10.00 and head to Normandy via Duxford where they will perform a fly past and link up with That’s All Brother.

14.00

Pegasus, Placcid Lassie and That’s All Brother will return to North Weald from drooping parachutists in Normandy and you will be able to see them land and taxi to the viewing area for us to refuel them.

The aircraft will be on the ground for about 2 hours and you will be able to view them up close and board them.

15.45

The three C47s will leave for Normandy again to do another parachute drop.

Spirit of Douglas will be returning at some point in the afternoon and then leaving late afternoon for its second trip to Normandy for the day.

The military vehicles will be getting ready for the road trip to Portsmouth to get the ferry to Normandy and will be leaving mid morning. Unlike the previous two days you will be able to see them all running and driving.

So less assets on the ground today but more movements because of having to fit in with ceremonies in France, Duxford air show etc we appreciate there will be less constant viewing opportunities and we cannot deliver any C47 taxi rides so Sunday ticket holders will receive a generous offer of free tickets to attend our other events post this event. Stay tuned.

Thank you for your support for this event and we very much look forward to seeing you again”

NORTH WEALD
“IMPORTANT SHOW INFORMATION”

Thank you for purchasing a ticket to this important 80th anniversary commemorative show - we look forward to seeing you here over the weekend.

Access to the show will ONLY be via gate I which is via Bookers off of the B181 which avoids the usual heavy market traffic. You will be marshalled to the car park which is at the top end of the runway and there will be a courtesy bus service from there to the show which will be constantly running. There will be no vehicles allowed on the show site.

The show opens at 9.00 each day and officially closes at 17.00. Your ticket gives you access to the many C47 Dakota and DC3 aircraft there and you will be able to look inside some of the aircraft. The crews will be near their aircraft and will be delighted to tell you all about them and to have their photos taken with you.

Navy Wings are bringing their Fairey Swordfish in its fresh D-Day livery and this is the first time it has been seen in public since D-Day strikes were added.

There will be period military vehicles and a military camp to emulate 1944 and again the vehicle owners will be very happy to share details about their vehicles with you.

For those of you who have bought the C47 taxi experience please go to the Dispersal Hut for boarding details.

There will be two food outlets at the show: Rosey Lea in the main building and the Airstream cafe in the Revetment. Each evening from 17.00 there will be a barbecue option available at the Airstream cafe (at additional cost) so you can stay and relax and perhaps enjoy a beer or glass of wine.

The Boeing B17 “Sally B” will be visiting us around 12.00 and staying to around 16.00 on Friday only.

A number of L-Bird spotter aircraft will be with us in their familiar wartime markings.

On Friday and Saturday at around 16.30 the C47s and DC3s will fire up and depart for a local formation flight. Such a beautiful sight and sound. Rarely will you get to see this number of WW2 Dakotas flying together.

On Sunday we will strike camp around lunchtime and the aircraft and military vehicles will head to Normandy for the next stage of this commemorative adventure.

Aero Legends will be operating their two seat Spitfire flights throughout the weekend and subject to availability you will be able to book these on the day. If you would like to book a flight please go to the Dispersal Hut.

Aces High will be on site displaying their fantastic range of military and aviation artwork.

All tickets must be purchased on line and we are limiting numbers to this event to make it special so book now to avoid the cut off!
