18 first coaching meetings in the last week & I am so inspired by the people starting their Vibrant Leaders journey 🥰

It’s an honour to me to get to do this work and work with people trying to make the world a better place. It gives me so much energy and enthusiasm to do more.

A Vibrant Leader is a Culture Catalyst.

They’re the influencers who shape the way their companies do business for the benefit of both their people and the company.

These are the humans who change the world and make it a better place.

What do you think makes a Vibrant Leader?

I need to take a moment and say… wow. Karina Todd, Simon Ward, Philip Brady, Ben Gadd you are my heroes 🙌

Honestly, these events are nothing without leaders like you coming and sharing with the rest of us and I learnt a lot from each of you today, and had fun in the process!

There’s so much appetite out there for the Vibrant Workplace movement and I’m thankful to every one of you who came along today to be part of this journey.

Thank you to for your support in making this event happen, to for capturing it (lots of content coming soon to share with you!) and to the T3 Conference Centre team who offer incredible facilities but donate all proceeds to charity.

This movement is only getting started, but each of you are the people who will determine how far it goes.

We can have a better working world, for both employers and employees. One in which:

✔️ Businesses thrive
✔️ Workers benefit from them doing so
✔️ And society is healthier & happier too

You will determine whether we will.

Thank you.

🌍❤️

If there was any one thing that affected so many people in such a significant way we’d think of it on epidemic levels.

So why isn’t there more interest and action around menopause and supporting people at that stage of their life in both their personal lives and their careers?

Listen to the latest episode of the podcast to hear from Karina Todd on what we can and should be doing.

I’ll link both Spotify and Apple Podcasts in the comments and would appreciate if you would like and share to help get this important conversation heard folks 🙏

Episode 19 of the podcast titled ‘Menopause Unmuted’ is now LIVE with Karina Todd FCA from ‘Over the Bloody Moon’!

Sometimes people say to me they like the podcast - they don’t listen to every episode but tune in to the ones that are relevant to them.

That makes sense to me.

But, for this episode I would like to request everyone tunes in - whether you have / will / or won’t experience menopause.

Because this is not a topic to discuss solely with people who experience it - it needs attention from all of us so we can understand what those who are experiencing it are going through and how we can support them.

Karina helped educate me a lot in this episode. We discussed:

▪️What menopause is and the associated symptoms
▪️How it affects those who experience it and their careers
▪️How managers and co-workers can better support their colleagues
▪️What organisations can do to create a menopause-inclusive environment

I’ll link both Spotify and Apple Podcasts in the comments and would appreciate if you would like and share this folks - it is a topic that really should have a lot more attention 🙏

Craig

Weekly reminder that people who commit more of their life to work than anything else they will ever do in their waking hours deserve to be cared for in return.

And caring for them is better for business anyway 🤷‍♂️

It leads to better:

👉Talent attraction
👉Attendance
👉Engagement
👉Performance
👉Retention
👉Customer satisfaction
👉Customer retention
👇
👉Profitability!

So there’s no better time than right now to evaluate, and if necessary enhance, the lived experience of work had by your employees!

Because a better experience of work for them, means a better performing business too.

Do you agree or disagree? 🧐

Scott Alexander shared lots of incredible stories from his experience as a mediator in this episode. Like the time one employee claimed another had put a gun to their head!!

Isn’t it funny how rich people tell poor people they’re being negative when they call out corruption, exploitation and abuse of power?

I’ve seen it twice in the last 24-hours alone.

You need to 👉 not complain👇

👉 adopt a positive mindset…

It’s like “Shut up Janice, your rent will take care of itself if you just thank the magic unicorn 🦄 Is anyone thinking about me and how much it costs to fuel my boat?”

I’m all for people trying to make the best with what they have.

I’m also all for calling out the world’s imbalances that leave households with two full time workers at risk of poverty 🤷‍♂️

(Source: Institute of Public Policy & Research - because “gut feelings” that poor people just need to work harder is evidentially incorrect)

Stop gaslighting the in-work poor. They do not have weak mental game because they’ve worked out what you’re doing to them.

In the final Vibrant Leaders programme of the year which kicked off today, one participant mentioned how they joined their current employer...

They followed their old boss from a previous company.

That just reminded me of how powerful the relationship between line manager and team member can be.

You can work in a great company, but if you work under a terrible manager then your experience of it can be poor.

You can work in an ok company, but if your manager truly cares about you they can protect you and fight for you and that can mean the world.

The expression says "people work for people" - and while I still believe there are other factors in why someone will choose to take a job in and stay with a company - there's no doubt the strength of relationship with your manager is critical.

What do you think?

In almost every leadership programme we facilitate we ask for an example of Autocratic leadership and hear "the army" in response…

But think about it, in a life or death mission soldiers must be able to think for themselves and make instantaneous high consequence decisions without waiting to be told what to do.

Sure, they also need to be able to follow orders. But don’t we all?

Like any leadership style, ‘Autocratic’ has its place.

On the latest episode of the Vibrant Workplace Podcast Gavin Hendrie explains what leadership and culture is really like in the military and why companies should be considering the depth and breadth of skills available in the ex-military talent pool.

Do you believe that we have an income inequality problem?

Yes 👍
No 👎

02/08/2023

Do we need to rethink how we compensate employees in order to achieve true employee engagement?

I’m stoked to share with you the brand new episode of the Vibrant Workplace Podcast, supported by nijobfinder, with special guest - founder of income inequality solutions start-up ‘VOSA’, Dimi Yar, as we discuss what it really takes to engage a team.

When we talk about employee engagement I often feel we're unrealistic based on current business models.

It feels to me like we're asking for employees to care like owners. But they're not owners. If the business does well, they get a company branded cupcake and the joy of appearing in a staged photoshoot for social media.

And in many industries they're going to work more than anything else they'll do in their lives for little more than mental / physical health problems and to toil in financial strife in return.

As we've seen in recent times, the moment the winds change even the largest enterprise will lay off thousands without warning.

So what's in it for the employees that WILL encourage them to engage and perform?

As many (but not all) businesses are currently run, why would they care?

And what can we do to deliver a model which results in BETTER business performance while ALSO working for the employees?

In a world where employers are struggling with talent attraction, attendance, performance and retention problems - and employees are struggling to pay the bills - how can we find a true WIN:WIN that's better for both?

Check out the snippet below from our conversation and I'll link the full episode in the comments!

Craig

Our Story

Our Vibrant Vision is to change the way the world works, putting people at the heart of business strategy and improving business performance as we do it.

The evidence shows that better business culture results in better business performance. It doesn't benefit the employer, employee or customers of a business when everyone isn't on the same team. We help bridge the disconnect to create Vibrant Workplaces where people want to come to work, want to make a difference and feel like it was worthwhile doing it.

We work with clients across Europe providing a combination of blended learning interventions, consultancy and support to help improve the career experience of their people thus improving things like staff attrition levels, attendance, performance and client experience.
