Please could I ask for your help - please could everyone sign this petition, as I am so fed up with JCQ’s stupid regulation that we have to give our exam students their raw marks before submitting to the board. This is pure stress for both teacher and student and destroys the relationships we have so hard tried to build with each other during the course. It is heartbreaking to see so many young people in bits when they don’t get the mark they thought( which could change again when the exam board decides upon its algorithm!) We are told they have to be given to the students at this time - a time when they are prepping for other exams. This in turn upsets and confuses parents coming down on the art teachers as though it is their fault when it is a pointless exercise the teacher disagrees with too!

Tonight I am so upset I could easily leave a profession I joined over 40 years ago!

Challenge JCQ to abolish the process of issuing raw marks in Art subjects to students.

Trying to gage if any of my former students would be interested in workshops if I decide to run some?

Love the sea effect I have achieved using resin on a bamboo table top. Thanks to Eunice for sharing her knowledge.

Update: My teaching comittments and now Head of Year 10 have meant I have been unable to offer any workshops and have had little time to create much art myself in 2023.

Here is a sculpture I’m working on at present though it started by working from a live model but I have decided( having got the skull shape okay) to replicate in 3D the head of Lizzie Siddal one of the main Pre- Raphaelite Brotherhood’s models from the mid 19th Century - let see what happens…

I have been so busy of late - (I wonder why!) that I have only just got round to reading some of the NSEAD publications to discover:

‘Anthony (Tony) Dyson: Artist, master printer, art historian, teacher, has died at the age of ninety one.
The extraordinary range of skills and depth of knowledge that Tony acquired, assimilated, applied and shared over a long and creative life spanned different disciplines. Tony Dyson remained equally committed to art and education. He will be widely remembered as a maker of exquisite etchings and meticulous drawings and by successive generations of students as an inspirational teacher.’

I have to say publicly, I am feeling sad and honoured at the same time, as this man was the most amazing tutor to me during my PGCE course at the University of London back in 1982/83 His patience, dedication and art historical knowledge was exceptional and and I was privileged to witness his printmaking demonstrations. He was a gentle and humble man who cared passionately about education and I am in gratitude for all the pearls of wisdom he taught me. Peace be with you Tony!

Really enjoyed today . Attended Cordell Garfield’s oil painting workshop at Northampton Museum & Art gallery and managed to paint this portrait. Obviously could spend longer on it but quite pleased for a 5.1/2 hr piece

My blood is boiling and I am mentally seething re Channel 4’s sensationalist destruction of original works of art by Jimmy Carr and a bunch of mindless morons! While the artists works may represent an unpleasant part of history or carry an unsavoury secret, they should remain to serve as a reminder of how far we have come.
Now let me think about this / tonight they destroyed one of Hi**er’s artworks yet was not Hi**er hated for his destruction of famous works of art? hmmm have we learnt from these mistakes or repeating them? I am certainly not condoning monsters like Hi**er either, it is just if we destroy works of art then we do not get a full picture historically, nor should we forget atrocities to learn how not to live our lives. Would not it be far better to put such pieces into a gallery of horrors, charge to get in then use the proceeds to help charities or victims of abuse. It is nothing to do with one’s political, cultural or social stance
Destroying historic landmarks is oh so wrong on so many levels - let’s bury our heads in the sand and pretend horrible acts of history never occurred by destroying them. May as well knock down all the historic buildings too! How would historians feel if they burned the bayeaux tapestry because it celebrates a battle!
Then the next point- how much has Channel 4 spent to destroy these works? Money that could be better spent auctioning the works to raise money for people in need!
I despair - this has totally made me feel that today’s society is sick and I am ashamed to be apart of it

Remember to stay creative no matter what!

As The author Louise Hay once said:

‘The key to creativity is knowing that my thinking creates my experience. I use this key in every area of my life.’

Currently my school teaching is curtailing my personal creative expression but hopefully not for long!

Apologises to all my adult learners - I have been unwell and my work life balance at my new school is tipping too far in the wrong direction at the moment. Waitrose have still not confirmed an evening session after five calls, but I will keep trying - I think it is likely to be after Christmas though.
Do all still stay creative and I look forward to seeing all the wonderful work you are doing soon x

Today’s shout out goes to Valerie, another of my adult learners who has consistently worked hard to perfect her printmaking and painting techniques. Last week, after attending the painting trees day course at Irchester Country Park, she appeared with her finished piece, which I am sure you will all agree
is absolutely stunning and now needs to be framed and put on display!
Congratulations, you thoroughly deserve it! Also Well done to the other lovely learners shown below who attended the free course

A big Thank you and well done to Kerry one of my adult learners, for taking over and organising a mini exhibition of work at Rushden hall recently when I was not in a fit state to do so. I’m so proud of all the wonderful people I have met and had the privilege to work with over the past few years. The work looked stunning and received some excellent feedback as indeed it should.
