If it’s grand country houses or quaint country cottages that tickles your fancy… the Cotswolds is the place for you. Seats still available for Sunday.
Summer is fast approaching (we hope!) and the UK’s tourist highlights are starting to get a little more crowded. If Stonehenge is on your bucket list this summer, go now, before it turns into a human zoo! And guess what… we have two more tours this month (15 & 29 June) before the madness descends.
The Cotswolds is great to visit at any time of the year but the very best time is now. So, we have another tour running this coming Sunday. This is a Cotswolds-only tour where we spend more time visiting some of the highlight small towns and villages and the beautiful countryside in between, including the old market town of Chipping Campden where today merchants sell sheepskins as they would have been doing in the same market 400 years ago.
Admiring the sparkling white chalk cliffs of the Seven Sisters. Until recently they were retreating at 30 centimetres a year but with the advent of whiteboards, thankfully they’ve stabilised.
We’re off to one of the most spectacular coastlines in Britain this Sunday - Beachy Head & The Seven Sisters - which are located about 30 minutes east of Brighton. The vertical, sparkling white cliffs tower up to 170 metres above the sea with amazing views all the way along the coast to Brighton. Then we’ll be heading to Brighton for the afternoon. Plenty of seats still available.
Satisfying The Cotswolds’ sheep-photo itch.
Still a few seats left on tomorrow’s trip to Stratford & The Cotswolds if you’re twiddling your thumbs and fancy a dose of beautiful countryside and a trip back into William Shakespeare’s medieval England. The sun should be out too!
Ahh, the English countryside in early summer …. if you’re looking for ‘chocolate box’ villages with their quaint stone cottages connected by narrow country lanes, flanked by sheep fields surrounded by dry stone walls, with trickling streams and peace and tranquility … the Cotswolds is the place for you. And there’s no better time of the year to visit than now. We’re off again to the Cotswolds this Sunday for a beguiling trip into rural England.
This is the imposing view the locals of York would have had of their Norman masters 950 years ago. Clifford’s Tower was one of the invaders’ strongholds in the city and must have been an intimidating place. Come and see for yourself on Saturday.
Holy Trinity Church in Stratford-upon-Avon is the baptismal and burial place of William Shakespeare. Our tour of the town starts here with a visit to his grave. Today’s tour is full so we have added another tour for next weekend.
Midsummer Sunrise at Stonehenge, what could be more evocative?
Join us for the solstice celebrations and stand amongst the stones to watch the sun rise on the longest day of the year.
Spiritual, musical, magical!
Friday 21 June. Tour departs Cambridge at 12.30am, back early afternoon. Details on our website.
Late May/early June is THE best time to visit the Cotswolds. The vibrant green fields speckled with dots of wildflower colour, the clear air and bright skies, the bleating of lambs and the busy birdsong, the warmth of the stone of a Cotswold cottage… visit now if you can.
The North Norfolk coast is a little-known gem of a place. If you like peace and tranquility with little sound but the drying breeze and the cries of birds, huge skies and sunny weather, empty expanses of golden sand beaches, and the lure of seafood & chips!) and handicraft shops… this Saturday’s trip is for you!
Are you, like some, planning a lazy weekend ahead? The weather is set fair for a few days now so how about getting out and about and joining us on Saturday for a trip to see the lazy seals on the Norfolk coast? The beach and a boat trip in the sun, what’s not to like?!?
What time were we in Greenwich on Sunday? Don’t forget, the clock is synchronised to GMT!
We have received a cancellation for one seat on Monday’s tour to The Cotswolds… don’t forget Monday is a national holiday and The Cotswolds is a national treasure!
Vespa and Lambretta-riding Mods on the beachfront in Brighton recreating scenes of the 1960s. Check out the cult film ‘Quadrophenia’ for great music and a pulsating ride through Britain’s ‘60s youth culture and you’ll spot many familiar Brighton landmarks.
There are some unique places to visit in Britain that pinpoint where on the globe you are and that should certainly not be missed. One of them is the vertical chalk cliffs of the south-east coast of England. Although made famous further east at Dover, the white cliffs get higher and even more impressive as you head west reaching their most picturesque best at Beachy Head and the Seven Sisters. Come and see for yourself this Sunday.
We stumbled across an eerily quiet Funeral For Nature protest in Bath this afternoon highlighting the collapse of biodiversity worldwide. If the powers that be were to show as much enthusiasm for action as the protest garnered interest from the public today, there would be genuine hope for meaningful change.
We have received a cancellation for tomorrow’s tour to Windsor & Oxford so we now have 2 seats available to see the world’s largest occupied castle which has been home to British royalty for almost 1000 years, and the oldest university city in the UK.

Gertie the Great Bustard, a local celebrity that gatecrashes Stonehenge to scrounge the leftovers from a multitude of picnics, was on show again at the monument today. Despite her penchant for pastries, she’s still looking pretty slim but she’d better get her cholesterol levels checked.
Woo-hooo! We’re off to Oxford on Sunday. On a super-hot day last summer with temperatures hitting normal for the 22nd century, our 21st century trip saw 20th century Morris dancers perform 15th century dance in 18th century clothes outside the 17th century Ashmolean Museum rehoused in its fabulous 19th century building. A trip to Oxford is a trip for the ages!
Great weather last Saturday for visiting Stonehenge. There’s a lot to see so sunshine and warmth was the perfect backdrop. Every Roots’ tour is fully-guided so whenever you come with us to Stonehenge, we’ll unravel the mysteries of the monument and the landscape that surrounds it. Fact really is more amazing than fiction!
Working from home again this Saturday.
Norfolk on Saturday - wind, woods, sea, sand and seals!
Windy on the Norfolk coast today!
Only a few seats left on Saturday’s trip to the Norfolk coast which includes a boat trip out to see the seals that live on the remote sandbanks all year round. Here are a few pictures from recent trips to one of the UK’s off-the-beaten-track and unspoilt destinations.
The forecast is for changeable weather this week but, come the weekend, warmth! Perfect timing for our first trip to the empty beaches of the north Norfolk coast this Saturday. Bring a jacket and comfortable shoes as we will be walking along the huge expansive beaches, dipping our toes (that’s enough!) in the chilly waters, wandering through the tranquil pine forests, all to a soundtrack of seabirds, waders, geese and ducks. There will be fish and chips on the quaint harbours of the local fishing villages and a boat trip to see the seals!
Happy Easter everyone!

outside mum & dad’s house in Stratford.
Twiddling your thumbs this Easter weekend? We have a few seats left on Friday’s trip to Stratford & The Cotswolds. Stratford-upon-Avon, of course, was the home of William Shakespeare before he set off to London for fame and fortune. But he returned to Stratford to spend his final years in the town. There are numerous properties across the town connected with the Shakespeare family, this one being Hall’s Croft, the home of his daughter Susannah and her husband. A trip to Stratford & The Cotswolds is a trip back in time to old England with its wonky wood-framed houses, ancient stone cottages and picturesque countryside. And with spring in the air, the colour of the countryside is fast returning.

Inside the courtyard of the Bodleian Library in Oxford. Notice the doors into the old libraries for each subject, including Logic, Metaphysics, Astronomy, Hebrew and Greek, amongst others. Also, the tower of the 5 orders of classical architecture with the capitals of each column reflecting Tuscan, Doric, Ionic, Corinthian and Composite design. Oxford is certainly a grand place.
No visit to Stonehenge is complete without time spent in the exhibition at the Visitor Centre. On display are archaeological finds from the site such as the skeleton of a man, pottery and beads, Stone Age and Bronze Age tools and weapons, and audio-visual screens explaining how Stonehenge evolved over time. Fascinating stuff! #stonehenge #stonehengearchaeology #stonehengeexhibition #stonehengevisitorcentre #stonehengeexhibits #stonehengeartefacts #tourstostonehenge #toursfromcambridge #ukbyroots
Just a short glimpse of the beauty of a Cotswolds village only seen when venturing along the narrow country lanes. Our next tour is on Sunday 17th September but there aren’t many seats left.
The Cotswolds Druids are at Stonehenge today to celebrate the summer solstice. Privileged access for some!
What a fantastic day for the Norfolk coast! It may be sweltering in Cambridge but here it’s just perfect, ideal for a trip out to see the seals… although it could still be a wee bit too hot for them, I guess. #sealwatching #sealtrip #sealtripsnorfolk #northnorfolk #northnorfolkcoast #morstonquay #tourstonorthnorfolk #toursfromcambridge #ukbyroots
