Time for Nathan & Lindsey to tackle Blisworth tunnel. Two different approaches, Lindsey laid back and relaxed (possibly due to wearing a bright yellow rain jacket), and Nathan more studious, he-man T-shirt (did I mention this is the wet tunnel! 😳) and not blinking for the whole trip! Thanks guys and we’ll done, brilliant steering!

With Braunston and it’s tunnel behind us, we moored at Weedon Bec on our way to Stoke Bruerne on the GU. It’s a great village with many reasons to stop for the night. Here is a pic of the Military Ordinance Depot, built around 1805/1806 to house small arms and larger items such as field artillery. The sixteen large store houses are built around an arm off the GU, and the gateway building (in the far distance) has a portcullis, presumably to defend it against the dastardly French, charging up the Grand Junction Canal to attack the armoury. Plenty to see and wander around.

It was great that so many previous owners managed to turn up to TR’s 50th gathering, thanks to David, Andy, Anne, Steph, Veronica, Steve, Chris and of course our 2023 crew, Nathan and Lindsey, for being here on TR’s celebration year! But a special thanks to Tim Coghlan (demigod of the waterways) and John Pinder (the builder of TR way back in 1973) who were the . A great day, and all the better for meeting up again with all those who have been associated with TR in the past half century …. Cheers 😊

Happy Birthday TR 🥳🎉 ! A lovely lunchtime spent with past owners at Braunston a couple of days ago. Plenty of reminiscing, great food and birthday cake, with guest appearances from Canal Royalty, Tim Coghlan, owner of Braunston Marina and all round supporter of the canals, and John Pinder who built TR way back in 1973. Thanks to all who attended to make this a day to remember; David, Andy, Anne, Steph, Veronica, Steve, Chris, and importantly, Nathan and Lindsey, my excellent 2023 crew.

Evening mooring near the Iron Trunk Aqueduct in Cosgrove. This time we moored close to the aqueduct instead of in the village as it gave our guests the opportunity of exploring the Heritage Walk, Ouse Valley Park, and walk beside the River Ouse. A great afternoon was had by all!

This is the sight that greeted us as we trundled along the GU near Ivinghoe. A new Centre Parc location? Over the top glamping park? Exotic bouncy castle experience? No. Munchkin land has been built on a farm for the filming of Wicked. Well I never 😳.

End of Nathan’s first full week of working on TR and cheerfully steering along the GU summit at Tring. Guided by Lindsey his cooking skills are increasing daily, and now he’s getting his teeth (so to speak) into the dark art of steering TR. Keep it up Nathan, you’ll soon be matching her skills in both spheres. 😀
