Congratulations to Duns Golf Club player Kaylen Martin who finished tied 17th the Scottish Boys Strokeplay at Irvine out of 144 competitors. Kaylen carded at total of 12 over for his 4 rounds in very challenging conditions finishing 9 shots back from the winners 3 over total. Well done young man⛳️

2024 SUMMER LEAGUE - A REMINDER TO ALL OUR 21 CLUBS
The 2024 BGA Summer League will take place throughout the season - each club may enter one or more teams for the Summer league comprising 4 nominated scratch players and 2 nominated handicap players (Max H'Cap Index 9). Leagues will be decided once entries have closed on 1st April with leagues based on Geographical basis. The semi-finals of the summer league will be held on a home and away basis with the final again over a 36-hole format with foursomes in the morning and singles matches in the afternoon. To enter , clubs should send an email intimating their intention to enter one or more teams to [email protected] before 1st April. The cost is £80 per team and team payment should be made by Bank Transfer.
A reminder to our 21 affiliated clubs that our Annual General Meeting takes place at Galashiels Golf Club on Wed 29th Nov at 7.00pm. The agenda has been emailed to all clubs in advance.

Congratulations to our boys team who finished 4th out of 15 areas in the Scottish Boys Area Team Tournament at Forrester Park on Sunday. The boys combined foursomes and singles scores of +16 saw them miss out by only 3 shots on a medal. Left to right - Lyle Gillie , Cameron Brydon , Kaylen Martin & Gregor Brydon.
Scottish Boys Area Team update - after a good foursomes result the team are currrently 4th going into the afternoon singles with 3 of the 4 singles scores to be added to the foursomes total. Kaylen Martin and Cameron Brydon shot level par 72 this morning with Lyle and Gillie and Gregor Brydon carding a +6 78 for a team score of 150. Stick in lads , very much in contention.

Today’s 1st rnd of 2023 Scottish Area Team Championship was played at Peebles GC in glorious conditions. With the format being 3 foursomes in the morning and 6 singles in the afternoon. Leading for the Borders in the 1st game was the Peebles Duo of Jamie Morris and Kris Hopkirk who combined well to win there game 2&1. The 2nd pairing certainly had a different feel with Allan Turnbull of Peebles passing on his experience to young debutant Aaron Borthwick of Hirsel and the Two of them played well together with Allan in aw of the young man’s power which helped them to a 2&1 victory. The next pair from Torwoodlee of Simon Fairburn and Ewan Gunter once again proved a great pairing extending there winning run together in the foursomes to 3 Wins out of 3 with a 5&3 victory.So at the halfway stage Borders has a 3v0 advantage. Now onto the singles with Jamie Morris leading us out in a hard fought match Jamie came up short loosing on the last hole. Next was Simon Fairburn who got of to a bad start but fought till the end but also got beat on the last hole. Like Simon Kris didn’t get of to the best start loosing the first 5 holes but battled hard but came up short. Game all square at this stage so all to play for with Ewan and Aaron and Allan out there trying to get the 2 wins needed for victory. Allan came up with the goods playing some great golf to ease to a 5&4 victory. Then in another tense game Ewan Gunter managed to get the point on the board winning at the last in another last hole shootout thankfully going the Borders way to make sure of the victory. Aaron locked in some battle think there was never more than 1 hole in it but his opponent once again managed to squeeze a win on the last hole but certainly can be proud of himself well done Aaron. A very exciting game and hats of to Stirlingshire for a great fight back but just wasn’t enough in the end. Both teams retired to the clubhouse where they were well fed and watered by the catering staff so thanks for a great day Peebles GC .

After a one-under 70 today, Craig Howie goes into the final round of the DP World Tour in a share of 12th place on 8-under par, just five shots off the lead.
He goes out at 11.21 local time on Sunday among the final groups, in the company of former European Ryder Cup player Rafa Cabrera Bello and Frenchman Julien Brun.

The Border Golfers Association are saddened to learn of the sudden death of former Borders team member Ian Frizzel. Ian was a very talented golfer who played for the Border team many times over the last couple of decades. He won the prestigious BGA Challenge trophy along with his great friend Mike Thomson in 1991 and played in many summer league matches and border club events as well as Scottish events. Ian was a multiple club champion winning championships at both Torwoodlee and Galashiels over the years. He was well known throughout the Borders not only for golf but also in Football.
Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.
