Haymaking 👩‍🌾
This is quite a rare sight in most city centres, but a vital part of keeping this piece of land as a meadow 🌱
Our Garden’s Team have been challenged with such mixed weather, but in their words ‘it’s getting there’ 🌦️
It certainly makes a very rural sight.

🌟 Feel Our Voice 🌟

This quirky sculpture on the Art Trail can be found between and Hatch, offering the perfect resting spot with views across the Stour Valley.

Artist, Kezia Cole, created this bench from recycled apple crates from local Rickard’s farm. The parametric design enables light to filter through the piece and creates a visual ripple as the visitor walks past ensuring the work sits within and gently interacts with the view itself.

The contours of the bench mirror words spoken by local people, words that they would say to someone sitting on the bench whilst looking at the panoramic view of farmland, orchards, oast houses, fruit crops, hop bines and the Stour Valley.

Since at least the time of peripatetic Greek philosophers, many writers have discovered a deep, intuitive connection between walking, thinking, and writing. “Methinks that the moment my legs begin to move, my thoughts begin to flow,” Henry David Thoreau penned in his journal. What is it about walking, in particular, that makes it so amenable to thinking and writing? The answer begins with changes to our chemistry. Kevin Sinfield, sporting superstar backs our special Stepping Out Kent walk to raise funds for MND and we are so grateful. 🙏

King Kev, captain of Rugby League’s Leeds Rhinos, was always a tough guy carved out of granite, one of the greatest Superleague players of all time. But it turns out that was just a training exercise. It’s what he did next that forged his national reputation as a revered, committed and ferocious campaigner. In 2019 his former team mate and childhood friend, Rob Burrow, was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease and Sinfield pledged his support.

“Right at the start it was all about Rob. Then you realise pretty quickly, this is everywhere. There are 5000 people in the UK with MND.”

So he set about raising awareness and funds, first by running 7 marathons in 7 days. Then with a run from Leicester Tigers Stadium to Leeds Rhinos home ground – 101 miles in 24 hours with no sleep. (Actually 104 miles. They got lost twice.) And then the incredible ULTRA 7in7. Seven tough ultra marathons – 40 miles each – in 7 days. Towards the end, every step was agony but he finished at Old Trafford, running on the pitch at half time during the Rugby League World Cup Final to the deafening cheers of a standing ovation.
