If you had Santa and his reindeer come through your town you may have heard a clicking noise coming from the reindeer, their tendons click when they walk and it's thought they do this so they can follow each other in a blizzard

When owls first evolved they would hunt during the day. ☀️
However, once large birds of prey developed, almost all owls were forced into the night. 🦉🌙
One of the exceptions is the Northern hawk owl, who often visits my campsite in Norway. 🏕️

It feels like Scotland is covered in lochs and streams, but actually only 2% of Scotland's land area is covered by freshwater. However, this makes up 90% of the freshwater within the UK.🤯🌊

For several of my tours, I bring my large walk-in tipi-style tent, equipped with a large living area and 2 separate bedrooms, to accommodate some comfortable raised camping beds. ⛺
Off the beaten track and away from any campsites, I complete this outdoors luxury with a portable compost toilet and a solar powered shower. 🧻🚿

This is not a snake, but a slow worm, a lizard without legs. They have been known to hibernate in large cosy groups of 30 and unlike most reptiles give birth to live young.🐍🦎

Another tour for Clan Macpherson Museum , up Creag Dubh last weekend. We shared many tales and facts about deers and the history of the region of Badenoch within this wonderful group, who came from near and far to explore and enjoy the views.⛰️🦌
Day trips in small groups like this can be so much fun!

Last Saturday, I conducted my first tour for the Clan Macpherson Museum. Combining history and facts about wildcats with wildcat lore and stories of the Highlands for such an enthusiastic audience was really rewarding and I cannot wait for our next outdoorsy museum adventure. ⛰️🥾🐈‍⬛
Who knows, maybe I will make tours in Badenoch a habit.

What do you believe to be the purpose of the dewlap on European elk (the fold of skin on their neck)? 🦌
Could it be for mating, as dewlaps on males are larger? For heat-exchange to help cool down the body? Or to collect dew in the morning sun? 🤔

Who would you like as a breakfast guest? ☕
During the last tour I guided in the Eastern Cairngorms, a curious otter came right onto the shore, while we were enjoying our morning porridge.🦦 It was probably one of my best tours yet, in terms of otter watching. ⛺

The view over Loch a’Choire from Ben y Vrackie, north of Pitlochry.⛰️
The ‘speckled mountain’ owes its name to its former appearance when it was still lined with white quartz. The national gem of Scotland has long been mined from its slopes, but the view is still worth a climb. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Bracken/ferns were once a protected species in Scotland.
They became endangered due to being burnt in large numbers to be used in the manufacturing of glass before conventional methods were discovered.
