NEWSFLASH - EV charging comes to Lochgoilhead. To be more specific, they are at the Drimsynie Estate. Electric vehicle chargers have been installed in the hotel car park, for up to 4 cars at a time. Thank you to Cove Communities at Drimsynie for adding this feature and making it open to all visitors. Lochgoilhead has been on an Argyll & Bute Council list for years to have EV charging access. The list is no doubt in someones drawer somewhere.

Other news… Coffeeholics will be pleased to hear that a Costa Coffee machine will be included when the Costcutter Mini Market opens the week after next once their refurbishment is complete.

Pleased to report excellent progress on repairing the bridge joining the two parts of golf course, as well as the popular walk around the head of the loch from the village to Drimsynie. The bridge was damaged in the October storm. This will be a welcome repair.

Other news is that Gabriel & Gabriela at the River Shack pop-up takeaway in the community garden it's proving to be popular. As is the opening of the restaurant on the weekends at the The Shore House Guesthouse with quality dining provided by the chef Andy Hughes. Wonderful to see rural businesses flourish. Now we are just waiting for news re The Goil Inn.

There is definitely a feeling of spring around the village. People out walking, chatting, and enjoying the scenery.

AirBnB can take a bit of a bashing - but as a booking manager, I have to say, they run a tight ship built on customer reviews. To gain SuperHost we have to meet or surpass quarterly high thresholds based on guest ratings, speed of repsonse and zero cancellations. This could not happen without the commitment from home owners to provide a quality place to stay, as well as the housekeepers and maintenence support. It really is a team effort. In the 30+ years I have been welcoming people from all over the world to our beatiful part of Scotland, it starts with customer service and it carries on throughout their stay. At the start of a New Year I want to thank the guests for their reviews, and I want to thank everyone involved who work to deliver a good holiday experience.

Many visitors bring their bikes on holiday to Lochgoilhead, and no wonder. On a day like today, with perfect autumn weather, it was time for a new bike ride following 2 newish cycle paths, a quiet B road, and just a short section on an A road. Lochgoilhead to the The Tree Shop at the head of Loch Fyne. 27 miles round trip, 2,251 elevation gain, and 3 hours of beautiful Argyll scenery. Best on a hybrid bike as the route includes the new River Path extension from the village to Drimsyniebeg before you puff up Hell’s Glen on the quiet B839. Turn on to the A815 for a short ride down to one of 2 entrances to the Ardkinglas Estate. A lovely quiet ride through the woodlands and on in to the village of Cairndow. Follow the signs for the Shepherds Way. There are some hilly sections on this but you are rewarded with views of the head of Loch Fyne over to the Tree Shop and Loch Fyne Oyster Bar - our destination. There are a number of gates on the path but not so many that you cannot enjoy the route. At the head of Loch Fyne you follow a good path, avoiding the busy road. Break time. This is a cobbled together route - you’ll not find it in any guide. Credit to the Lochgoil Community Trust for the work they are doing in developing paths in the area. Likewise to the community at the head of Loch Fyne. They are opening up our area for people to enjoy on foot and by bike. I was on an ebike - but I have cycled out this glen many times on a regular bike - you just have to peddle harder...

In these days of what seems like constant bad news - how nice to open a Guest Book and see a message such as the one left this morning. ‘Thank you for having us in your wonderful cottage. Had a great time despite rubbish weather, and we’d love to come back one day (maybe in summer next time!). What a difference. The upgrade of the path was already a huge improvement, but this takes it to a whole new level. For visitors who have not found it - starts at the far end of the River Walk, cross the road at the zig-zag bridge, and off you go... A good news story. I cycled the Balloch to Tarbet cycle path during lockdown and remember thinking, what a mess! The route was a cawp. Congratulations to the independent conservation charity the Friends of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs, on introducing a pilot litter bin scheme - and what a success.
