Sportsnet is part of Skillnet Group. This will be achieved through a sports brokerage and development approach involving peer support.
The aims of the project are to support more people with learning disabilities/difficulties to access mainstream sports opportunities. The project will:
Support people with learning disabilities/difficulties to participate in mainstream and inclusive sport. Offer free sport taster sessions to encourage people to get involved. Support people to become leaders in sport. Support people who excel in t
heir chosen sport to have the best possible support and encouragement to go as far as possible. Co-deliver disability-awareness and human rights based training for sports and leisure staff. Carry out research and mystery shopping. Support people to access work opportunities in the sports and leisure fields. Offer vocational training and external qualifications. Work with young people to volunteer alongside people with learning disabilities/difficulties. Have 2 large events and get involved in existing events - to demonstrate how people with learning disabilities/difficulties can and should be involved equally in mainstream sport.
