🍝 What was your trip highlight?
Feasting our eyes on the famed Tuscan scenery of rolling hills and cypress-lined roads; then feasting on the local produce such as pica, Siena’s contribution to the world of pasta, and pecorino from Pienza.

🎨 Any tips for first-timers?
In Florence, public galleries are free on Sundays so try and visit the Uffizi from midday when queues have died down (say hello to Botticelli’s Venus); cross the Arno to the Pitti Palace if time allows. Put the money towards food of course!

For a more local foodie experience, you can also cross the Arno and head towards Piazza Santo Spirito where the locals hang out at the outdoor bars and restaurants bordering the Basilica di Santo Spirito. Grab a cooling limoncello aperitif from a bar and then 'queue' in the chairs lined up outside Osteria Santo Spirito, the most popular restaurant (deservedly so) south of the river that doesn't take bookings.

🍦 What would you do if you went again?
Try San Gimignano’s ice cream again! It's as beautiful as its towers (it’s known as the city of beautiful towers): head to Caffetteria Gelateria dell'Olmo in Piazza Della Cisterna and sample some white lavender ice cream and the saffron ice cream: extraordinary.

Hungry? How about a taste of Asia? This Flightie Friday we caught up with our First & Business Expert Justin, just back from China...

🇨🇳 What was your trip highlight?

Not knowing what to expect and being completely blown away. China is a country that we know little about, and I never expected to have the opportunity to travel and experience its culture. From the amazing greeting at the airport to the final farewell with all our new friends, I left with a full heart and a yearning to return for more.
📍 Location highlight would be Zhangjiajie National Park

📱 Any advice for first-timers?

There are a few things that I would recommend to set yourself up for the best possible experience:

1️⃣ Alipay is important to have loaded and ready to go before you arrive.
2️⃣ Get a mobile sim card so that you can stay connected with family and friends, or look into a VPN as connecting to the local internet or getting a local sim will restrict your access.
3️⃣ Book with a reputable tour company (like one of the amazing touring partners we work with) so you have someone looking out for you along the way, especially if it's your first time.
4️⃣ Understand, respect and research the culture before you go

➕ What would you do if you went again?

I just want to go back and explore MORE! I only got a small taste of what the country has to offer, and I can only imagine what else is out there for me and my clients. On my next trip, I would still like to stay with a tour so that the visa process is easier to handle. I'm also interested in visiting Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu, Xi’an, and an island in the south called Sanya.

This Flightie Friday we're keeping it continental with a sojourn to Sorrento 🇮🇹 We caught up with Expert Robyn - our in-house Graphic Designer - about her blissful 30th birthday in Italy 🎉

🍋 What was your trip highlight?
The food, of course! I'm definitely more of a pasta gal, but as the Napoli region is known for its pizza it would've been rude to not try them out 😋 This part of Italy is also known its lemons, and they are nothing short of mutant! An absolute must is a trip to Amalfi to try the lemon sorbet, served inside a lemon.

🏖️ Any advice for first-timers?
If beach is a necessity for your holidays, choose a hotel that has a private beach. There are limited public beaches on the Amalfi Coast. However, the views are better from the hotels in the cliffs. Our friendly Travel Experts will be able to help you find the one that's perfect for you! Wherever you stay, I highly recommend a boat trip; we did the one from Sorrento to Positano and Amalfi. The view of the cliffs from the sea is just breathtaking.

☀️ What would you do if you went again?
We were only there for five days, so next time we'd definitely stay a bit longer and plan a visit to Pompeii and the isle of Capri.

We caught up with Digital Marketing guru Rahul about his latest holiday to South Africa, and it's got us feeling all the feels (namely: jealousy).

🇿🇦 What was your trip highlight?
Soaking in the views, which are unlike anywhere else, at Cape Point and the top of Table Mountain. We had to wait a few days for a clear day but it was so worth it!

🇿🇦 Any tips for first-timers?
If you're a foodie, book your restaurants and wine tours in advance as availability can go quickly in the summer, especially at popular places like La Petite Colombe (Franschhoek) or Kloof Street House (Cape Town).

🇿🇦 What would you do next time?
The vineyards alone are worth going back for. Each one is very different in what they offer, whether it's a sumptuous tasting menu, a museum with an exhibit on the history of corkscrews, or simply stunning hilltop views.
