Monks Bridge is a gorgeous holiday cottage situated on the edge of the village of Crosby Ravensworth, Cumbria. Originally built as the village school, it has been tastefully coverted and extended over time into the charming cottage you see today. Comfortably sleeping 5 and full of character, Monks Bridge takes its name from the bridge over the River Lyvennet, next to the cottage. Crosby Ravenswort

h is a delightful Cumbrian village with a community owned pub serving great food and drink, within easy walking distance. Now located within the Yorkshire Dales National Park, there are plenty of beautiful walks straight from the door and the Lake District and Pennines are both within half an hour drive, if you want to explore further afield. Monks Bridge has been in our family for over 20 years and we are delighted to continue the family connection. Over time it has been lovingly updated so that you can enjoy all the charm and character of the original building with the comfort of modern amenites. The centre piece of the cottage is the fabulous sitting/dining room in what used to be the school hall. This striking room with its high ceilings and fabulous arched windows is kept cosy with our efficient central heating and large woodburner. There is a well equipped kitchen with breakfast area, family bathroom and three bedrooms - a king size overlooking the beck, a double overlooking the garden with an ensuite shower room and a single bedroom with a seating area overlooking the beck. Outside, there is a gorgeous cottage garden with a patio and table and chairs for al fresco meals. A further seating area beside the beck provides the perfect place to relax and listen to the soothing sounds of the water running past.

Happy ! Thank you all the women who help us provide our guests with the best experience at Monks Bridge. Special mention of course to Allie who is doing such a great job keeping it spotlessly clean and making it welcoming for our guests and to Kate who takes such good care of our garden. But to all the other women who contribute or have contributed, whether it be through furnishings, artwork, food for welcome pack or looking after out guests so well at the pub, thank you!

Worth knowing. The cafe at Lowther Castle and Gardens is lovely!

For regular visitors to the café at Lowther, a Loyalty Card. We have based it on the layout of the Lowther Crest which has six black circles (annulets sable) on a gold (or) background.

So for six hot drinks, claim your seventh free.

Available in the café from the weekend. (Our first lot ran out in a day so we are having to reprint.)

Have been rather quiet lately, even quieter than normal! Lovely to be back in Cumbria now for a couple of weeks of resetting and blowing the cobwebs away. We had a gorgeous walk from above Helton, across the fell and down to Howtown and back. Beautiful views across Ullswater and the fells. Nice to have some sunshine too. Probably should have checked if the tea room was open 🤦🏼‍♀️

Flying visit! It's not often we visit in July when Monks Bridge is booked out so it was a treat to have this last minute visit, even if we couldn't stay in our own cottage. Great to see flowers blooming in the garden which is always evolving. We managed a short walk in glorious sunshine and a much longer walk along the which was beautiful despite the cloud. Not sure we would have made it in full sun though! 🥵

And of course, we managed a couple of meals in our favourite pub .arms and a wander up the hill to see the sun set. 🍻🍷🥘😋🌄

Wish we could have stayed longer! We are booked out now until the end of August but if you fancy a week in September, follow the link in our bio to book.

Our latest visit was just prior to the arrival of Storm Bert. Despite the serene photos it was already pretty breezy and cold but much better with the wind on our backs. A lovely walk up on Askham Fell provided the necessary big sky, stunning view and fresh air therapy! You just can't beat it 🥰 The opportunities for beautiful walks are endless when you stay at Monks Bridge.
