Shout out to Skye folk who may have missed the last showing of Winter 282. Kev is bringing his brilliant film to An Crubh in Sleat next Friday 19th. Tickets on the door. Definitely not just for climbers and hill folk the film is a dramatic and emotional journey through the Scottish Munros in the winter of 2020.

Sublime conditions again and the third consecutive day seeing not a soul. Be rude not to see if the In Pinn was playing ball. Spike free on dry rock right to the top of Sgurr Dearg but the east facing descent to the foot of the climb was a serious wake up call. Without the micro-spikes we would have literally been skating on thin ice. Crampons would have avoided slipping but added to the trip factor.
The micro spikes were proving to be just the tool, once again. The foot security made it feel pretty much like a safe dry summer ascent, complete with warm rock on the south face😎. Next on the circuit was across to Banachdaich. It is thought of as one of the easiest long sections of the entire Cuillin Ridge but we were glad of the rope on glazed slabs into the bealach. The rocky middle top of Banachdaich gave the guys another chance to practice using the rope to move together along its knife-edge crest in prep for their own outing the following day. One final rise to the summit before chasing the , grateful for every ounce of snow that marginally cushioned the steel hard screes. The lads did successfully tackle their “test route”, Sgurr Nan Fheadain in fine style on Tuesday 👏👌

With temps below minus 8 it would be rude not to climb some ice on such a beautiful day.
Theres a covering of Xmas snow with huge crystals so micro spikes were order of the day. We could even see St Kilda from up there!

Massive congratulations to 77 year old Brian on compleating all his and Tops this week on Sgurr a Ghreadaidh. Despite horrendous forecasts the rule of thumb that Easterly winds leave the Cuillin clear has worked out well to give some glorious days this week. The pattern is set to continue through to the end of next week too. We’ve plenty of availability if you want to come and make the most of it with all the side benefits of Autumn colours and lovely quiet roads.

What's not to like from our good friend Jamie? Something for the living room??

My latest painting just completed, is of the Northern Cuillin group of peaks, viewed from Garbh Bheinn, across Glen Sligachan on the Isle of Skye. I have spent months exploring this beautiful range of island mountains, and I look forward to many more - there are so many future project ideas scribbled down in my sketchbooks - I just need suitable weather and snow conditions, which is a huge ask for the Isle of Skye.

Jamie’s progress since she left Skye has been remarkable and she now has only 30 Munros left to do. Have a close look at the chart though and you’ll see some ridiculous ascent figures still to do through Fisherfield tomorrow in particular. Just the descent from Liathach, over Beinn Alligan and cycle to Kinlochewe left to do today! Hold it together Jamie and you’ll be on Ben Kilbreck to finish on Monday 🤞🏼🙌

Jamie’s self propelled continuous Munro round. I’m a Bit too gupped to say much apart from just how hard core this lady is. 3 weeks into the self propelled Munro record attempt. A 20+hr day on Knoydart preceded 2am start on Beinn Sgriethall, kayak to Skye, cycle to Glen Brittle, do the Ridge, drop to Glen Slig and back up Bla Bheinn- so about 31 hours with a one hour kip! And off for another 10 days of this before she’ll get a proper sleep. Totally solid on her feet on the most serious mountain terrain, even in the dark before I finally allowed a headtorch. I only did the first half before took the helm. 😉

Thanks for the excuse Jamie.

Congratulations to 76yo David on completing his Munros with a stylish ascent of the Inaccessible Pinnacle. Followed by the rest of the family the Skye Guides team skirted the queues getting 8 folk up the steep West Ridge while the rest of the world were stuck behind each other in bank holiday traffic on the East. Delightfully quiet and shady but biggest compliment goes to the Ryland family for managing such a steep climb so easily. Chapeau!
