A few years ago Max completed a design he’d been thinking about for a while, his own addition to the set of SAHB metal badges from the 70’s. It was something he’d always planned on making into an enamel pin and I wanted to finish that project for him, so with kind help from our friend Ria it’s finally a reality. 100% of the profits from these pins will go to Cancer Research UK in Max’s name.
I’ve reopened an Etsy shop under the name WeirdScenesPins to sell the stock that’s left, unfortunately they wouldn’t let me take over the original shop but the new link is https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/WeirdScenesPins

“THE GRADUATE
I had been wanting to get round to this for years and have swithered with different SAHB Superhero names for myself like 'The Student',
'The Pupil, 'The Apprentice', etc.
Based on the idea that if Alex is the Teacher and Hugh is The Professor then my role should relate to that somehow.
So I chose 'The Graduate' under the premise that by getting the Alex job I kinda graduated in SAHBOLOGY.

p.s.: the mic in my hand was taken straight off the Alex box-set front cover I drew a few years ago which I thought would make an appropriate wee touch.🎤”

New Pin Drop
Here is my most limited pin of all time being that there will only be 22 of them ever made.
The Red Max in his WW1 dogfighter plane The Crimson Hay-Bailer, based on Manfred von Richthofen or the Red Baron.
It also features a cameo appearance from the intrepid Yankee Doodle Pigeon who altho was never actually in Wacky Races still certainly fits right into the Hanna Barbera Universe timeline. Anyway here’s the link:

New Pin Drop
Here is my most limited pin of all time being that there will only be 22 of them ever made. (well, until some Chinese company blags my design and recreates them poorly lol)
It’s my namesake, The Red Max in his WW1 dogfighter plane The Crimson Hay-Bailer, based on Manfred von Richthofen or the Red Baron.
It also features a cameo appearance from the intrepid Yankee Doodle Pigeon who altho was never actually in Wacky Races still certainly fits right into the Hanna Barbera Universe timeline. Which reminded me that in ‘Stop The Pigeon’ Dastardly, Muttley, Klunk & Zilly we’re all WW1 Germans. 🤔

NEW PINS UPDATE
At looooong last these two beauties will finally be with me tomoz.
Both would come under the category of ‘Classic Sixties TV’ I suppose with no musical connections for a change.
One is live action series portrayed in bold, psychedelic colours and the other is a cartoon done in extremely feminine stylings with lashings of glittery Barbie-pinks. 💖
I’m very proud of both designs and can’t wait to lay ‘em on ya.

NEW IN WEIRD SCENES
Charles Allan Gilbert’s ‘All Is Vanity/Skull pin.
Featuring my own art tribute to the haunting ‘ALL IS VANITY’ (1892) The illustration employs a double image (or visual pun) in which the scene of a woman admiring herself in a mirror of her vanity table, when viewed from a distance, appears to be a human skull.
Used by the Damned in 1977 for their ‘Sick Of Being Sick’ legendary free single then by Def Leppard on their ‘Radio Active’ album in 1993.
Made from struck-cast antique gold to give an aged Victorian look and feel like an old coin.

NEW WEIRDNESS ON THE SCENE
And in the death, as the last few corpses lay rotting on the slimy
thoroughfare here’s my own take on the striking half-man, half-mastiff grotesque from Diamond Dogs.
Based on the controversial original cover of course. (i.e. ‘with’ the dogs bollox)
Featuring a new gimmick for me, a minute, real simulated diamond on his earring.
Redrawn, redesigned in 8 colours, 5 x 2.5cm, black nickel and limited to 100, this pin is sure to become a Future Legend.

NEW FROM WEIRD SCENES
Here’s my unofficial reworking of the classic 1967 psychedelic poster which was originally given away with Bob Dylan’s Greatest Hits album from the same year.
And to put my own spin on it I’ve added even more “swirling streams of colour to evoke the visual effects of the psychedelic drugs that were gaining popularity then.”
There’s 12 vivid colours of enamel on a gold nickel plating and there are only 47 of them for sale, so it should become something of an instant rarity as I won’t be remaking it again when they are all gone.

The Postcard’s drumming kitten was originally a book illustration by the hugely fascinating Louis Wain, ‘The man who painted cats’.
Throughout his life Wain’s cats got more and more bizarre and psychedelic as his schizophrenia condition worsened. 🙀
Here’s an clip from Sounds 1981.
