Three clients have just returned from Mumbai today. I wouldn't say it's a destination on everyone's radar for a city break, but my clients have fully embraced the sights, smells and sounds of this fascinating city with an early morning Dawn tour, a tour of the Khala Ghoda Arts Area, a visit to the Elephanta caves and a city tour of Mumbai.

After they made this booking with me in October last year, the contact didn't stop there. I sent them a thank you card for booking with me. In the couple of weeks prior to departure I asked them if they were ok with all the arrangements. At that point they wanted to add the various excursions, and a reservation to be made at a local restaurant in the Bombay Canteen.

I checked them in pre-flight and uploaded their boarding passes to their TC app.
I checked in with them during their trip to make sure everything was ok. Their return boarding passes were also uploaded to their TC app. This evening I've ordered their 'Welcome home' gift** and I've used the attached photo that will sit as an edible topping on their cake which will be posted to them in a couple of days. Later this week, I'll call the lead passenger for a feedback call.

I've made 4 such calls today from clients who have recently returned from a ski holiday, a Caribbean cruise, a holiday in Lanzarote and a bespoke trip to Sri Lanka.

2 of those calls resulted in new enquiries and a fabulous testimonial.

I've recently had 3 clients return from a very bespoke trip in Sri Lanka. John, Tina and sister Nicky had particular requirements which together with my excellent partner on the ground I was able to fulfil.

Not only did they want to include the usual tourist sites in their itinerary, but the 2 sisters had grandparents who were born in Sri Lanka and they had specific requirements in wanting to visit several places that had featured heavily in their grandparents lives. Visits to the Fire Station in Kandy where their grandfather had worked, and a tea plantation in Rangala where grandmother had been based all had to be part of their Sri Lanka holiday. Their guide was excellent and was able to unearth further family connections including where one of their relatives and his horse had died in 1927! They were even able to see a memorial to the horse Urbar.

I know not every trip that I put together is as specific as this, but I was thrilled that my clients were able to fill in some of the gaps of their family history in Sri Lanka.

Yesterday I had message from a potential client who wanted a quote for the F1 in Abu Dhabi, he had already had a price of £3k for 2 people. He sent through the quote so I could check what had been offered. He had no idea that the hotel in El Ain was 2 hours from the race circuit, and the quote didn't include transport to and from the circuit!

You might find a cheaper price online or with a regular travel agent, but you won't get the same level of service.

This is the direct Qantas flight from Perth to Heathrow, 17 hours non-stop. I've got 2 clients on this flight, they're halfway home. They weren't supposed to take this flight, they should have flown Adelaide - Melbourne - Hong Kong - Manchester with Cathay Pacific. So what happened?

Yesterday afternoon I received notification from Qantas (codeshare with Cathay and BA) who were operating the first flight from Adelaide to Melbourne that the flight had been cancelled. They would notify me of the amended flight details in due course. It was 3am in Adelaide, I didn't really want to have to call my clients.

At 6am Adelaide time, I was able to Whatsapp my client with all the details of the revised flights. I had checked them in for the new flights, and boarding passes uploaded to the MyTC app, their personal travel app. At 7am, I had a message from my client, who said ' Wow, and this is why we use you'. They didn't have to do anything.
She was actually really happy, she had always wanted to fly the Perth - Heathrow direct flight, so bit of win - win!

Update 5.40pm Power came back on at 3.15 as I was literally walking out of the house. I haven't cancelled the room, just in case the power goes back off again. Needless to say, it's been a strange old day watching my favourite ceonothus bush slowly uproot itself, but i've just confirmed my biggest ever booking since starting my business! Luxury South Africa, including a 4 night trip onboard the Rovos Rail luxury train from Victoria Falls to Pretoria.

Hope you're all ok in this storm. My power is currently out and not likely to be restored until tomorrow evening.

I'm heading to the nearest Premier Inn for the night, where I can reconnect and recharge (me and my electrical devices). My phone is about to lose power.
