Well, that was an interesting week. After an amazing weekend at conference, I ended up with Covid. I'd never had it - first time for everything I guess but it lasted a bit longer than I expected! Therefore apologies, as I've been a bit quiet on social media - I was still working on some enquiries and getting clients ready for departures this week but social media took the hit.

The good news is I'm better now and raring to go - so keep your enquiries coming in. Whether it's a last-minute trip to do some Christmas shopping, a winter sun break so you have something to look forward to, or that summer holiday you'd like to get wrapped up before Christmas I'm ready to help take the stress away.

I can't quite believe this has come round so quickly but I am so looking forward to going. It's been 30 years since Travel Counsellors launched and it's time to celebrate, meet up with colleagues and our wonderful suppliers, listen to inspirational speakers, learn more about future trends and generally get time to immerse ourselves in all things travel.

Next week is an exciting week too as I'll be working on a family trip to Bali and Singapore, an escape to Thailand over the winter, a family get together to Greece, a trip to the Amalfi Coast, a New York weekend break and a trip to Krakow.

Just working on a Thailand enquiry and including this little beauty into the itinerary. I just love it - The Memory at On On Hotel is one of the legendary hotels of Phuket old town.

The hotel not only possesses a unique allure due to its long history of welcoming travellers but also still stands today as a stylish modern accommodation permeated with decades of memories. In 1927, Un Un Hotel was originally built under the supervision of an architect from Penang. The building was constructed in Sino-Portuguese style, completed with a double-storey; upper and ground floor, with thick, solidly built walls, combining arched windows and doors.

The rooms are lovingly decorated and it's steps away from great coffee shops, restaurants and fantastic shopping. Phuket Old town can be overlooked in favour of the beaches but it was my favourite bit of my visit to the region over the summer.

Lunchtime has moved to 2!

And now it's in front of the TV watching Gary Barlow's new travel series in South Africa. Have you seen it yet?

I'm loving it so far - I visited South Africa with work a few times for film shoots and my favourite memory is driving from the Salt plains to Capetown with a local producer after getting two flat tyres in the middle of nowhere and subsequently missing the flight. It was just amazing - I was driving at sunset and that South African light was spectacular.

Gary starts his journey on the Western Cape exploring the vineyards and learning about the variety of grapes, their sustainability, and what food is paired perfectly with each before driving through the breathtaking scenery.

Joined by friends along the way, Gary will also head further North to embark on a safari experience of a lifetime and enjoy the hustle and bustle of Johannesburg, where he’ll discover a wine revolution is taking place!

My daughter now wants to go too - to see the Penguins though as she watched Penguin Town on Netflix - another great programme worth watching.

I was going through the games cupboard last night and came across 'Would you rather' so I thought why not play a little game with a travel spin.

So would you rather have

🏨 Big hotel chain or boutique hotel?

I'm probably a boutique hotel kind of girl myself

✈️ Hotel room upgrade or seat upgrade?

This one is difficult but probably a room upgrade - especially if you're there for a while.

🍹All-inclusive resort or cruise?

Probably a cruise - the question of which one is for another day! :-)

🏖 Pool or beach

New York, New York

It's a wonderful place. Why not book something to look forward to in February and spend 4 days in the Big Apple. Shop till you drop, dine at local delis or Michelin star restaurants, wonder the museums and art galleries, walk the High Line, , catch a Broadway show or experience the vibrant nightlife in areas such as the East Village or Williamsburg. No matter what you do you'll be captivated by this city - the first time I went I really wanted to lose my passport just so that I could stay a few more days!

I've looked at direct departures - don't forget you'll also clear customs at Dublin - saving you time when you land.

Supporting local communities

I often get asked by clients how they can support local communities when they travel.

My top tips would be -

- Eat Local - check out local cafes and restaurants, or try street food.

- Buy Handmade Goods: Shop at local markets for unique, handcrafted items.

- Choose Ethical Tours : Book with companies that hire local guides and use eco-friendly practices.

- Donate to good causes : If you have time, look for local charities or community projects to support - for instance some restaurants might have their cooking book.

- Use Local Transport - in many countries you can get their number and use them for future journeys.

- Reduce Waste: Bring reusable items like a water bottle and avoid plastic to minimise your environmental footprint.

- Cash as a thankyou - in many places, tips are essential to local workers.

- Engage with Locals: Whether it's joining a local class or chatting with shopkeepers, connecting with people helps support their culture and economy.

I'll share some examples over the weeks but I wanted to highlight a restaurant that we went to in Siem Reap in July. It's called Haven and they say 'Where helping tastes good'

HAVEN is a social enterprise and a training restaurant for vulnerable young adults from shelters, as well as underprivileged young adults from very poor rural areas. By teaching quality work skills and important life skills, Haven helps to empower young people by preparing them for employment and by helping them in their personal development, creating safe and independent futures.

It was our favourite place to eat during our time there (as you can tell from the day and night photos) - the food was so good and everyone so welcoming - it is definitely worth a visit.

One for the shortlist.

Crystal Waters - a hidden gem on the Greek island of Lefkada, known for its stunning beaches with crystal-clear waters. Fondu by the Lake - there's still time to book

Geneva might slip under the radar as a pre Christmas break but you would be pleasantly surprised to discover the city alive with festive fun. Think magical Christmas Markets (where the scent of mulled wine, Swiss chocolates, and raclette cheese fills the air) , the Festival of lights, Ice Skating, traditional performances, excursions to Mont Saleve, not to mention the great Christmas shopping opportunities.
