My name is Ruth and I have been working with children for the last 16 years. I have been working with mums and individual families more recently in the last 6 years. I am a qualified Nursery Nurse (I qualified in 2002) and started my career in childcare in a local Day Nursery, where I worked for 10 years. During that time, I worked with children between 6 moths to 12 years. I was the room leader o
f the 2-3 room for 5 years, which I really loved – the tantrums, potty training and fussy eating made it all the more interesting! Then I was promoted to Deputy Manager, a role I also really enjoyed, but I left the nursery because I wanted to spend more time with the children, and my new role limited that time. After I left I got married and became a Mum to two Step Children, Beth was six at the time, and Luke was four. I was then working with a Health Visiting Team. I absolutely loved my role, I was able to support young children and their families, with common problems, such as sleep challenges, breastfeeding difficulties, unwanted behaviour, fussy eating and potty training. I qualified as a Certified Infant Massage Instructor in 2014, which enables me to teach massage, both on a 1:1 basis, and to groups of Mums and Dads and their babies., while supporting them with the testing first few weeks of becoming parents. I now have two children of my own, Jack who is nearly five, and Emily who is 18 months. Being a Mum, and facing the challenges we all face through parenting has made me so much better at helping other people, as I have experienced it myself. I achieved a degree in Early Years in 2010, which focuses on children of Nursery/Pre-School age, so I feel confident to discuss development and milestones of older children. I believe that parenting can, and should be a positive experience, whatever the challenges you are facing, and I really enjoy supporting families so that they can feel more in control and make a difference to their family and ultimately their wellbeing and peace of mind.
