Old McDonald had a Farm.....but no garage. Kathleen, (the name does not reflect the devastation this particular storm brought with her earlier this month) had made her presence know. Sadly, this is one of many trees that Storm Kathleen took her toll on. We were appointed to dismantle and make the area safe after this splendid beauty had been tragically felled by Kathleen's rage. However, on the plus side, it did expose one of our tree surgeons as a talented photographer as we showcase his photos that aptly captured the loss of this windblown Eucalyptus.

Arbor Call Ltd are ARB APPROVED CONTRACTORS: Here are the benefits of using Arb Approved Contractors such as ourselves when considering trees and tree works. An ARB Approved Contractor is the only comprehensive accreditation scheme for professional tree surgery businesses in the UK.

Contractors included in the directory listing have submitted their businesses and tree works to the Arb Association for assessment and have to pass their competency requirements which is not just limited to their knowledge of trees and tree maintenance but also:

- Their understanding and practical application of current arboricultural practice
- Their compliance with legislative requirements of arboricultural contracting
- Their compliance with health and safety requirements of arboricultural contracting (endorsed by the CHAS scheme)
- Their high levels of service to clients through efficient business management.

Furthermore, the Arboricultural Association require Approved Contracts within the directory to hold appropriate insurance for their works. Arb Approved Contractors must always have Public Liability insurance to a minimum of £5,000,000 and a maximum excess of £250 in any one incident as well as Professional Indemnity insurance where written advice is given. Adding to this is the Employers' Liability insurance where applicable which is required commensurate with the size of the business.

The standards are very high and reassessments are carried out at regular intervals to ensure standards are maintained. Standards are regularly reviewed and updated along with customer expectations.

Please visit the Arboricultural Association website for more information. This should be strongly considered when choosing your tree surgeon or arboriculturist.

Here is our beautiful Unimog, the cockroach of our service vehicles on a job at Wi******er Hospital. That's a vehicle that will never be taken down! We are also getting to use our tracked Forst chipper for the first time.
We are clearing the scrub and undergrowth and facing back some lime trees today down at the Hospital today. No sticky plasters required for this machine today! Our real life Tonka Toy! It's all fun when the Mog's out to play!

After Jake's efforts to dig himself out of a hole (he's often found in one!) ....... we have a prettier picture of a Common Beech.

So what's the story - well, the original tree, an Ash, had to be removed. Sadly there was no option but to remove this tree, having Ash Dieback, a disease we have written about in an earlier post.

However we like a happy and "green" ending to any of our works. Replanting another tree in the place of the ash demonstrates the positive and environmentally positive practices we adopt in our profession.

Thanks to South Wi******er Golf Course for the access, Barcham Trees for our fledgling tree and George Beckett for the laurel hedge that we planted in place of a removed fence.

New year brought Storm Henk with it and all the disruption extended to not just the public roads but damage to property as the strong winds increased. Our emergency tree surgeons are fast, efficient and reliable in dealing with what trees can literally "throw" at you.
Although trees are a a beautiful part of our gardens and surroundings, they can pose a hazard in certain situations.

It is important to take appropriate action if a tree has been identified as being damaged, diseased or even leaning in a haphazard fashion.
Our skilled professionals can quickly assess a situation and take timely and appropriate action to remedy the situation and remedy any risk identified, be it pruning, bracing or even removing weakened limbs of a tree.

Planting of new trees at the Stoneham, Highwood site

This morning our boys were off to plant 50 new trees at the Highwood, Stoneham site.

As you know, a tree surgeon's job is not just to dismantle but to promote and encourage growth of new trees - doing our bit for the climate change, purifying air and helping our our wildlife.

We are currently doing just that with our work on the Stoneham site. After we had completed dead wooding of the trees as well as dismantling and clearing those that had died, we have now moved onto the planting and promotion of regrowth in the area.

We took delivery yesterday of our 50 trees of various species including Cox's Orange Pippins, Crab Apples, Field Maple, Silver Birch, Flowering and Wild Cherry, Common Beech and Elder, Lime and English Oak to name a few!

This morning we have set off to plant them. We will be also ensuring their survival and healthy growth with our tree watering programme using our Water Bowser (as shown in the photos).

We will be posting pictures of the trees as they grow in future posts so look out for updates!

A bad example of tree protection fencing!

During a recent trip to London I was confronted with the non effective use of such measures as per the photos attached. The builders are back on site with their excavations and seem to think that the space is for their own personal storage. Someone needs a lesson on the Root Protection Area.

Tree protection fencing offers a physical barrier around a tree to prevent damage during construction or other activities that could impact the tree's health. In particular, the root system is safeguarded along with the trunk of trees from soil compaction and other areas of harm.

Somebody obviously did not give these workers the memo!!!! 😟 ******er

Preening Pigeons?..... no problem...

Imagine sitting under the trees in your garden during this hot weather and then something sloppy falls upon your head....and dribbles down your forehead....you look up and there he is, sitting preening himself just above you in your beautiful shady tree. Not just him but he's bought several of his friends. Our recent project targeted not trees but those who may perch! Yes we do bird spikes too, professionally fitted and well, worthy of their purposes as you can see from our pictures on the job below. Pesky pigeons no more! Have they moved on to your tree??? What is a monolith tree? Well here we had a once lovely beech tree reduced to a monolith after a recent major limb failure. We were assigned to dismantle and remove the main stem from site. Despite the scorching weather, Chris and Alec worked well to deliver a fantastic, professional work as you can see from the attached photos taken throughout the process. Well done lads!
