To help tilt ourselves into a positive direction for 2025, here's something to wrap your brains around. Literally.

We've been reading about Neuroaesthetics. As a field of research emerging primarily from University College London, it sits at the intersection of applied aesthetics and cognitive neuroscience. Sounds very lab coat and complex, but we've pushed through to try and understand what it's all about and it's really quite interesting.

Essentially, activity in the medial orbito-frontal cortex (mOFC) of our brains increases when we experience beauty.

So what?

The mOFC seems to be associated with our understanding of available choices and subsequent implications of our actions. Here's the thing though, beauty truly is what you choose it to be - it might be musical, mathematical, natural, physical or even moral beauty.

In short, when we experience what we consider to be beautiful, we relax, observe more choices and perceive outcomes more positively. That feeling of watching the sunrise over a beautiful landscape isn't just a fleeting emotion, it's an actual thing which changes the way your brain guides our decisions.

The lesson is that we should think about what we find beautiful and make sure to better bake them into our habits and plans because the more we expose ourselves to beauty in whatever form it presents to us, the better we live.

That feels like a great way to welcome in 2025. We hope you've had joyful holidays, Happy New Year from all of us at Pura Aventura - here's to another year of fabulous travel!

It's so easy to get caught up in our next goal without ever stopping to appreciate our journey. So, here's a quick grateful look back at Pura Aventura's 2024.

During the year we:

🔹Successfully recertified as B Corp, increasing our score by over 20%.
🔹Won a prestigious award from the Latin American Travel Association for creating shared value with our partners overseas.
🔹Launched more new product in a year than ever before.
🔹Boosted our team benefits, including 50% off our trips.
🔹Marked 25 years in business with a very special celebration in La Rioja.
🔹Found a clearer, better way to talk about the amazing holidays we make, thanks to a great partnership with Electric Peach.
🔹Achieved a net promoter score of over 90. Woohoo!
🔹Continued to amplify sustainable travel through co-chairing the growing Travel by B Corp collective.
🔹Did a better job than ever nurturing our relationships with our huge network of partners- it is to them that we ultimately owe everything.

On the subject of partners...we chartered a Galapagos boat in December, keeping back one cabin to gift to our friend and host on the ground in Ecuador, Tatiana. For cost reasons, most Ecuadorians can only dream of visiting the Galapagos. Few have dreamt of the islands as much as Tatiana and few are so deserving of a treat.

She wrote to say thank you. We won't post it all, but will share this line because it perfectly sums up both what we do and why we do it.

"God bless Leesa, Dolly, Caroline and David, John, Peter, Vincent and Wilma for being great travel companions but especially Sarah and Pura Aventura for having fulfilled a longing of life."

That's Travel Positive, that's a good year.

Most people head to Costa Rica for its wild side—monkeys swinging through rainforests, peaceful golden beaches, and thrilling river adventures. Ecotourism is Costa Rica's claim to fame, and it’s what gets you on the plane.

But what about the culture?

Imagine starting your day with a private tour of Tino’s garden, biting into fresh, creamy soursop. Or tracing the roots of craft chocolate and coffee on the slopes of an active volcano. Picture watching artisans hand-painting the vibrant oxcarts that once carried coffee beans to the coast. And yes, Costa Rica does have a rich indigenous heritage, often overlooked.

What if you could experience all of this—and still have time for the wildlife, swimming, and rafting you came for?

Our trips make space for Costa Rica’s cultural heartbeat alongside its natural wonders. Get in touch with a Costa Rica expert to learn more.

"There’s a sense of wonder that comes with travelling, especially with Pura Aventura. You wake up in these incredible places, not sure if you're really awake or still dreaming. It’s the logistics that make it special—one night, you’re in a ranger's hut in the middle of the dense jungle, and the next, you’re in a lakeside cabin with just the two of you with a bottle of wine and a roaring fire. The contrast is part of the magic.

It’s not just the places; it’s the thoughtful details and the local people that elevate the experience. That extra touch makes all the difference." Margot, Pura Explorer

Cathedral Beach in Galicia is one of Spain’s most iconic spots—those soaring rock arches at low tide are a must-see. But with its fame comes crowds, and during peak season, you’ll need to book a slot to visit (with only 5,000 people allowed per day!).

Here’s a tip: after taking in its dramatic beauty, keep driving along the coast. You’ll find quieter, untouched stretches of white sand where you can splash, stroll, and swim in peace. It’s the perfect way to enjoy the best of both worlds—Instagram-worthy views and your own slice of coastal paradise. Sometimes you really can have your cake and eat it.

It's Violet Monday, the final day of our Magical Mystery Rainbow tour, on which we've been delivering you pots of gold in some of the most extraordinary places in the world.

We're off to Argentina to see the beautiful jacaranda trees in spring bloom.

It's hard to imagine a more beautiful place to be in the springtime than the Argentine Lake District in the shadow of the forested heights of the Andes. That's exactly what you can expect on our Argentine Patagonia: Lakes, Wine & Welsh Culture holiday.

And to put more spring in your step, we're inviting you to linger longer at the exquisite Peuma Hue Lodge. Surrounded by the iconic Nahuel Huapi National Park, this lakeside retreat is the perfect place to walk, paddle, ride, or read.

Four nights instead of the usual three lets you really settle in to enjoy the fine food and wine and the great company of your charming hosts. Remember, the extra night is on us.

Missed the other colours of our rainbow?

Take a trip through the past seven days to see some of the most epic ways to enjoy Central & South America, Portugal and Spain with treats thrown in for the maximum WOW factor.

All trips must be booked by 31st December to access the special extras.

It's Indigo Sunday, and things have just gotten MUCH hotter. This is a treat not to be missed.

It's time to get those binoculars out and go in search of the "Indigo" Footed Booby*.

Our glorious 'Ecuador & Galápagos Wildlife Wonders' trip is quite hard to improve - a beautiful Amazon Lodge, the cloudforests of Mindo, a gorgeous boutique hotel in Quito, and a week on board the Seaman Journey catamaran in the Galápagos already impresses.

The only way we could make it even better was to give you even more time on board. With three extra nights on board, you can travel along the southern islands, making your wildlife experience truly complete.

10 nights on board for the price of 7. Mic drop. That's THREE NIGHTS EXTRA ON US. WHAT?!!

Book by the end of the year for your trip of a lifetime.

**Whilst our offers are entirely genuine, the Indigo Footed Booby might have been created in a lab with the sole intention of shoehorning this problematic colour into our thematic week. If you hear rumours that my colleague Chris took his AI felt tip pens to a Booby's blue feet I will neither confirm nor deny them.

It's day five of our Rainbow Week of spectacular travel gifts - Blue Saturday.

Time to wrap up warm and head out into the snow and ice - you won't believe it's July and August as we touch down in Chile. We'll be exploring high in the ski resorts of the Andes and way down in beautiful Patagonia and the Torres del Paine National Park.

Our brand new "Winter in Chile: Andean Pistes & Patagonian Pumas" trip combines two exceptional experiences in a summer holiday unlike any other.

We're also combining two exceptionally generous offers: not only are we inviting you to stay in Patagonia's incredible Estancia Cerro Guido for five nights rather than the usual four, we are also inviting you to slide up from the 4* Puerta del Sol hotel to the 5* Valle Nevado. Again, this is at no extra cost to you.

Book before the new year and enjoy Chile at its finest.

It's GREEN FRIDAY in our Magical Rainbow world tour, and where else could we be but Costa Rica, the home of green tourism.

If you book our Costa Rica Hidden Highlights trip before the end of December, you'll get two FREE nights in the Cloudforest.

This incredible tour takes you to some of our favourite places along the way from the Caribbean to the Pacific, always avoiding the obvious and embracing the special, the lesser known and the downright more spectacular - like the Osa Peninsula.

Now, we are going to make it even more special by adding another destination, another stop along the way—two nights in the beautiful and very green San Gerardo cloud forest.

That's two days for you to look for quetzals, walk peaceful riverside trails and enjoy looking out over the canopy of San Gerardo for the same price as our usual trip. Get in touch with a Costa Rica expert today.

Ta-dah! It's day 3 of our Rainbow Week - Yellow Thursday! We're gifting a FREE hotel night in Lisbon to go with our Alentejo region holiday.

Yellow is the colour of custard. And trams, at least in Lisbon. What could be more Portuguese than a pastel de nata nibbled on board a yellow tram while looking forward to a few days walking through spring meadows filled with yellow flowers? These are certainly some of the things we're thankful for today.

And with that, a HUGE happy Thanksgiving to our friends stateside. We hope you have a glorious day filled with loved ones and delicious food.

Book your Portugal adventure before 31st December to get your free stay in 'Lisboa.'

Travel Positive.

We believe that travel is inherently a force for good. At its best, it creates confidence, open-mindedness, curiosity, fresh perspectives and new connections which enrich our lives enormously.

Pura Aventura holidays are all about sharing the parts of Spain, Portugal and Latin America which have moved us. Some of these are well-known, many are not but all are places we know intimately. Because of this, we know exactly what we want to share and how – from the places you eat to the guides who meet you and the walks you take. The only way for us to achieve the level of tailoring we demand is, in large part, by going direct.

Going direct also ensures that the money you spend benefits mainly the people you meet along the way, creating a simple economic imperative for the preservation of the communities, landscapes and environments you are visiting.

Because we believe in the importance of personal connections when you travel, we love you to stay in owner-run hotels and lodges.
