Gloucestershire Mountaineering Club (GMC) Gloucestershire Mountaineering Club (GMC) is for mountaineers, climbers, walkers, ski tourers, mountain bikers and fell runners.

We have a very active meets list, with regular monthly trips to our club hut in Snowdonia, a monthly day walk, informal meets at the Warehouse Climbing Centre in Gloucester every Tuesday, and a monthly social meet in the bar afterwards on the first Tuesday of each month. Trips are also arranged to other areas such as Wales, the Lake District, Cornwall, the Peak District, and Scotland. Summer months include outdoor climbing and mid-week evening walks.

ℹ Symonds Yat rockfall update

In August, a significant rockfall took place on the cliffs at Symonds Yat Rock. Since then, we have asked all climbers to avoid using the area and the areas directly below the rockface.

We have now been issued a formal closure of the cliff face by Natural England. This prevents public access in the area shown in the map. Please do not climb in this area – for your safety and the safety of others.

Since August, there have been further rockfalls and so we have had experts out to survey the entire cliff face. We are working to replace the rock capture fence, and to assess any further areas of instability.

Upcoming events this year include:- An evening walk from Horsley on the 3rd May. Hut meet in North wales 14/15th May - hut meets take place every month. There is a days walk in South Wales (Raven Walk). The long distance 'Three Castles Walk" planned on the 2nd July. Some members are planning a Via Ferrata / climbing trip to the Italian Dolomites sometime in August. Finally a 'sun rock trip ' is planned for Oct in Greece. Just a flavour of what the GMC year is looking like...
