MEETING REPORT
SUNDAY 5th JANUARY 2025
ARLINGTON STADIUM EASTBOURNE
SUPERSTOX 2025 WINTERNATIONALS

DONT TELL HIM PIKE COLES HOLES IN ONE TO WINTERNATIONALS!!

SORRY for the LATENESS of this REPORT but have been SNOWED under with several matters to deal with privately and other SPORTING EVENTS to attend but hey here it is and hope that this reminds those of you that were present at this meeting what took place in it! It sure has, me!

15 drivers arrived at a very very wet and miserable Arlington Stadium Eastbourne to contest this years WINTERNATIONALS. En route to the stadium spectators had to drive their cars through flooded roads as most of the fields around the track were covered in water. There was even a river flowing through the back of the PIT AREA the weather was so bad!! This sure was going to be a meeting for the "wet weather experts" in the class.

I managed to get round the pits pre-meeting to see a welcome returnee back to the class after a five year hiatus. This driver being 411 Aaron Williamson who arrived with the car that was formerly owned by Northern Irish driver 919 Dean Catherwood.

Race format was 2 HEATS which carried POINTS on each with the best/worst points scoring drivers getting to line up at the front/back of the WINTERNATIONALS grid which was to be our last race of the day. Heat one being an out of the hat draw carried out in the pits pre-meeting with a reverse grid of that forming the heat two grid.

All 15 drivers contested HEAT ONE which saw an early spinner on the Hailsham turn in 591 Reid Murray with local driver 454 Dave Pike assuming the early lead role in the race. Reid was having a torrid time as he spun again, this time on the back straight being joined on the "former" Speedway shale by 99 Christopher Phillips who had spun also. Chris rejoining to then spin entering the home straight being hit from behind by 411 Aaron Williamson and 702 Allen Cooper who simply could not avoid him with all 3 cars diverting to the Speedway track as the race continued to see the win going to 454 DAVE PIKE as he simply rolled back the years to win it. The "Squirrel" just holding off a hard charging 511 Martyn Coles to win it by just 3 car lengths with the "Duck" 713 Ian Beaumont liking his wet surroundings to place third. GREAT seeing our LONGEST serving pilot winning this one. Surely this man deserves a TESTIMONIAL. Just putting it out there!

HEAT ONE RESULT
454 DAVE PIKE 511 713 154 54 515 419 169 117 418

ALL 15 drivers contested HEAT TWO seeing the defending champion and pole sitter 154 Michael Green assume the lead role of the race as the racing was a bit spread out caused by the tricky track conditions. A few laps in Michael was to lose his lead by being spun on the Hailsham turn by 511 Martyn Coles as he took the lead with Michael making a "fast" recovery to continue his role in the race. This incident seeing 591 Reid Murray caught up in it as his car hit the wall. The last action of note seeing 515 Jordan Aylward fast spinning the 418 Luke Barkham car on the back straight seeing it end up on the Speedway. Mastering the conditions though was 511 MARTYN COLES as he simply went off into the distance to win it by over 10 car lengths from a recovered 154 Michael Green with 713 Ian Beaumont finishing in third place for the second time in the meeting. A fine fifth place going to the returnee 411 Aaron Williamson with previous race winner 454 Dave Pike finishing in sixth.

HEAT TWO RESULT
511 MARTYN COLES 154 713 515 411 454 99 702 54 169

After all the POINTS were added up this is how the grid for the WINTERNATIONALS looked.

2025 WINTERNATIONALS GRID 14 CARS ALL IN A LINE

511 154 713 454 515 54 169 419 117 418 22 99 702 591

The race got under way seeing the defending champion 154 Michael Green spun on the pits turn by 713 Ian Beaumont right at the start. We then saw the previous race winner 454 Dave Pike spun twice firstly by 54 Harry Sturt and then the chasing pack both of these incidents taking place on the back straight. Moments later the car of 117 Dan Cole hit the wall on the Hailsham turn and was left facing front on to the traffic. The race steward declaring a halt to the race at this point as Dans car was in a dangerous position so that the recovery crews could tow it to safety on the infield.
The restart seeing 511 Martyn Coles get away from 713 Ian Beaumont immediately on its flag fall never to lose the lead. Behind him all hell was going on! A recovered 154 Michael Green being spun again this time by the "play-full" 54 Harry Sturt entering the home straight. A MINI DD then ensuing against the wall between the pair with Michael main aggressor as front bumpers were then exchanged! Harrys getting used to DDS having having had one with 702 Allen Cooper at the recent BEST IN BRITAIN meeting at Hednesford. This incident certainly getting the TONGUES wagging both on the terraces and in the pits afterwards! The rest of the race being a lot less eventful seeing 511 MARTYN COLES deliver a master class to win it and the WINTERNATIONALS title by over three quarters of a straight from former EUROPEAN CHAMPION 713 Ian Beaumont with the current SOUTHERN CHAMPION 515 Jordan Aylward completing the podium to finish in third. All with fine drives with another fine drive for 4th coming from 169 Jayden Brooker with ex Brisca F2 pilot 702 Allen Cooper finishing in fifth thus getting his best place in the class to date with 99 Christopher Phillips completing the top 6. Just 9 cars completing the distance.

In the pits afterwards I managed to speak to the new CHAMPION. MARTYN saying to me "that the race was a nice one to win really enjoying the proper Stock Car conditions out there and thanked all his sponsors both OLD and NEW."

SUPERSTOX 2025 WINTERNATIONALS RESULT

CHAMPION : 511 MARTYN COLES
RUNNER UP : 713 IAN BEAUMONT
THIRD : 515 JORDAN AYLWARD

OTHER PLACES : 169 702 99 419 418 22

All this means that MARTYN now wins his FOURTH title in the class having won this one back in 2023 making it 2 WINTERNATIONALS titles to go with his wins in the BRITISH and OPEN SCOTTISH. Many congratulations MARTYN from ME and the rest of the Superstox WORLD.

STATTOS "UNOFFICIAL" AWARDS

DRIVER OF THE YEAR : 154 MICHAEL GREEN How can he not be with all the races and championships won this season. Enough said!

UNLUCKY DRIVER OF THE YEAR : 469 BRADLEY BROOKER Spent most of this season REPAIRING his damaged race car having crashed or been crashed during this season.

CRASH OF THE YEAR : 2 contenders. 5 ERIC WALKERS roll during the OPEN SCOTTISH meeting at Lochgelly on Sunday 2nd June that left him "delicate" for a couple of days to say the least or the OPENING LAP crash at Hednesford in the BEST IN BRITAIN on Sunday 1st December which took out MOST of the field and spun 279 PHIL PROCTORS car in ALL directions! BOTH incidents were "proper" spectacular.

RACES OF THE YEAR

3rd PLACE : Saturday nights HEAT race at the Ipswich Spedeweekend on the 6th July which saw 2 of our sports finest battle it out Seeing 154 MICHAEL GREEN getting the better of 886 CHRIS BRADBURY in an EPIC dual. Chris was to get revenge the following day by winning the NATIONAL from MICHAEL in another good battle.

2nd Place : EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP Saturday 21st September at Tullyroan which saw 154 MICHAEL GREEN win the title. 5 stoppages crashes a roll over for 935 DAVID BEATTIE and an incredible battle for the title.

WINNER : YOU can guess what this one is! That incredibly EPIC WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP race back on Saturday 3rd August at Hednesford that saw 944 JORDAN ROBINSON come from literally "NOWHERE" to win the title. As SPEDEWORTH say the RACE OF THE YEAR on THEIR tracks and could well be the BEST race seen anywhere this season across the OVAL racing circuits. Those last 2 laps will simply go down in FOLKLORE and HISTORY with those that were there that day to witness it. Even MY PEN WENT INTO MELTDOWN!! This race will go down as one in the PANTHEONS of the sport.

THANKS go to several people that made it great to be of service to all you great followers of the supers. In NO specific order. GEORGE CUZEN ADAM KELLY DANNY RUSTON GRAHAM UTTING SARAH JANE HAWORTH (for the footage that helped solve my MELTDOWN at the WORLD) MATT SHIPPAM DAVID CARTWRIGHT the PROMOTORS and last but by no means least the CREWS and their INCREDIBLE DRIVERS. I am GRATEFUL to all of you for making this season truly SPECIAL for ME and it sure has been. CANNOT WAIT for 2025. See you at those WINTERNATIONALS at Eastbourne on the 5th January.

2024 over and out! ALMOST!! UP THE SUPERDSTOX!!

MEETING REPORT
SUNDAY 1st DECEMBER 2024
HEDNESFORD HILLS RACEWAY
SUPERSTOX 2024 BEST IN BRITAIN

HEDNESFORD REDEMPTION AS GREEN PROVES HE IS "BEST" AGAIN!

29 of our finest arrived at a wet to start with but was to become dry Hednesford Hills Raceway to race in our last MAJOR race of the season the BEST IN BRITAIN.

Among our drivers were 3 drivers from over the water in Northern Ireland namely 933 Steven Haugh 914 Lee Davison and 944 Jordan Robinson back at the scene of his greatest triumph back in August when he became WORLD CHAMPION in that never to be forgotten race that will go down in the annuls of history. Both Lee and Jordan enduring a SIX hour Ferry delay in order to be here!

We had 2 other welcome visitors from Scotland as well namely 119 Aaron Riddell and 453 Kenny McKenzie.

On the day 3 drivers were also to make their DEBUTS in the class. FIRST recruit being 98 TIM PARRY. Tim telling me that his previous racing experiences came in the UK Modifieds Rebels American Cup Cars Stoxkarts and Brisca F1 Stock Cars. He arrived with a car that was formerly owned by 252 Gary Chisholm it being his OLD second car.
SECOND recruit being 178 ASHLEY DEAN. Ashley telling me that he has raced in the 1600 Bangers before and was using the car that used to be owned by 116 Aaron Blake. THIS car is going to be used by 2 other drivers in the future as well. MORE to be revealed on that in the there and now. One drivers a former National Hot Rodder and 2 Litre Hot Rodder and the other a former driver in the National Hot Rods and the Lightning Rods.

THIRD and final recruit being 702 ALLEN COOPER whose previous race experiences have come in the Pick-Up Trucks the Oval Track Legends and the Brisca F2 Stock Cars where he was their WORLD OF SHALE CHAMPION and the Reliant Robins where he was their WORLD CHAMPION. Allen telling me that he was going to see how things go today if he decides to have a season in the class and that he was using the car that was formerly owned by 2007 World Champion 69 Shaun Brooker. Not that original car though!

Talking of the Brookers. I never got the chance to introduce you formally to 369 ALFIE BROOKER. Alfie telling me that his previous race experience came in the Ninja Karts the Junior Rods the Swaffham (remember there!) Stock Rods and the Oval Track Legends.

Another Brooker 169 JAYDEN was about to use the car that was previously used by the 2015 World Champion 886 Chris Bradbury again not the original car that he won the World in.

Talking of WORLD CHAMPIONS. THREE time World Champion in 2005 2008 and 2016 482 JASON COOPER arrived with a brand new sparkling RCE that is a credit to him and the team that built it. JASON telling me that he will ONLY race when his 3 SONS Ninja Kart meetings are not taking place as they take priority.

Another driver arrived with a brand new car that is a credit to him and the team that built it. This being 5 ERIC WALKER who told me the car was built by LUKE WRENCH Motorsport with assistance coming from his Father ANDREW ex number 16 in Supers.

Last but by no means least former FACEBOOK TROPHY winner 490 MATTHEW SOLE arrived with the car that was previously in the hands of 1300 Stock Car star 167 Aaron Morris.

Thats a lot of news! Now on to the action. Our class was to have 3 races on the day. The FIRST of these was HEAT ONE with 28 drivers in it racing on a now fast drying track surface following early morning rain. Early action in it seeing a clash involving 279 Phil Proctor and 511 Martyn Coles on turn 3. As that was happening DEFENDING BEST IN BRITAIN CHAMPION 154 MICHAEL GREEN passed 453 Kenny McKenzie to take the lead. These 2 starting at the front of the grid in an OUT OF THE HAT DRAW that took place up in race control PRIOR to the meeting with the HEAT TWO race being REVERSE GRID to heat one. No sooner had Michael done this there was a clash on the back straight for 178 Ashley Dean and 490 Matthew Sole that left both cars in a vulnerable position on the race track resulting in the immediate stopping of the race. As these cars were being removed to the safety of the centre by the recovery crews drama was to take place as the leader 154 Michael Green was parking his car onto the centre with it having a puncture. His Hednesford run of BAD LUCK continuing! More drama was to come in the interlude as the car of 201 Nathan Browning caught fire on the back straight! The emergency crews arriving in haste to put the fire out so much so with efficiency Nathan was even out for the next race. Damage well limited.

The race restarting seeing 354 Jake Sturt now passing 453 Kenny McKenzie to lead the race. His Brother 54 Harry was not so fortunate though as he was involved in an incident with 702 Allen Cooper on turn one that lead to a "tete a tete" on the Figure of Eight track afterwards as the race continued around them! The last action of note seeing the recovered 511 Martyn Coles spinning 5 Eric Walker on the last bend as they battled for the places. Just before this 354 JAKE STURT had crossed the finish line to win the race by just 2 car lengths from the fast closing 119 Aaron Riddell with 2018 WORLD CHAMPION 914 Lee Davison not far behind in third. An eventful start for the supers to say the least!

So HEAT ONE goes the way of 354 JAKE STURT for only his SECOND win of the season. Jake. ADAM was pleased!

HEAT TWO saw 28 drivers make its starting grid sadly minus 54 Harry Sturt after his altercation with 702 Allen Cooper with the CURRENT WORLD CHAMPION 944 Jordan Robinson now joining the frey having missed the opener being towed of the track just before that one had started. A quiet opening saw lots of great battles for the places taking place with 515 Jordan Aylward assuming the lead role from 5 Eric Walker his new car really going well. Half-way throught the race there was a huge spin on the home straight for the car of 178 Ashley Dean seeing his car go full chat into the tyres at the entrance to turn one. He was not the only driver to be in the tyres. This time the car of 369 Alfie Brooker was in the tyres on the infield at the top of the back straight. Despite a gallant last bend effort from 5 Eric Walker SOUTHERN CHAMPION 515 Jordan Aylward crossed the line to win this race by just 2 car lengths from Walker with 914 Lee Davison placing in third place once again not too far behind the leading pair. 154 Michael Green placing eighth in this one and was about to play a major part in the next race.

So HEAT TWO goes the way of 515 JORDAN AYLWARD for his THIRD win of the season. NEIL will be pleased!

Our last race of the day was for this years BEST IN BRITAIN title which saw the best and worst points scoring drivers across the 2 heats lining up at the FRONT/BACK of the grid. THAT grid can be viewed in my previous post on here.

We were still sadly missing Harry but this time sadly joining him was 178 Ashley Dean after his altercation with the marker tyres in the previous race.

Thus meaning that 27 drivers made the grid for the start and BOY what a start. Utter carnage on the home straight in a massive session of high speed crashes that took out most of the starters from the front of the grid. Having changed his Engine mid race 933 Steven Haugh and his teams hard work was sadly not to be rewarded as his car left the track at a real rate of knots ending up on the infield having just missing the CHRISTMAS TREE placed on it by a matter of only a couple of feet! Another driver in the wars was 591 Reid Murray whose car had gone full chat into the marker tyres at the entrance to turn one. Worst driver to take the brunt of this incredible incident was 279 Phil Proctor whose car was hit on several occasions as though it was a spinning top. Sadly Phil was in trouble meaning the race had to be stopped. After some minutes happily he exited the car alright all be it shaken up. Phil saying to me after the race that he "shut his Eyes and hoped for the best" as his car was being hit by semingly everyone!

It was now a lap sheet restart that saw 5 Eric Walker in the lead from 22 Callum Kelman and 154 Michael Green who had some how managed to thread his way through the carnage that was happening in front of him coming from 16 on the grid up to third place in one lap!

The race restarting to see Green immediately passing Kelman and 2 laps later passing Eric on turn one to take the lead. Was there to be ANOTHER stoppage to deny him this win! This time the answer was NO! Having endured utter HEART-BREAK four months earlier in that WORLD FINAL EPIC. HEDNESFORD REDEMPTION was to come this time for Michael as he simply left the rest of them standing winning the race and title by almost the length of the straight crossing the line to jubilant scenes in the Green camp who were watching on the back straight. Eric being his runner up having to be at his best to hold off the fast closing World Champion 944 Jordan Robinson managing to hold him off to 3 car lengths away at the end of the race. Jordan having driven another BLINDER in a Hednesford major having started 19th on the grid. Incredible irony here. The same finishing top 3 all be it in a different order somewhat from that WORLD race! Finishing in 4th was 540 Brett Wesbroom with 5th and 6th spots going to 453 Kenny McKenzie and 22 Callum Kelman all 3 having had good meetings throughout.

So successfully defending his BEST IN BRITAIN title was 154 MICHAEL GREEN thus winning it for a SECOND occasion. This being his 17th title in the class which puts him FOURTH on the all time title list behind 482 JASON COOPER and 612 GARRY SPARKES who have 41 apiece and 376 STEVEN JACKSON who has 22. It was also his SIXTEENTH race win of the season with EIGHT of these wins coming in FINALS. After the well received lap of honour from the large crowd watching I managed to catch up with Michael in the scrutineering bay after saying "after a rough start to the meeting with a puncture in the first and a hard fought eighth in heat two to come away winning the title from where he started on the grid was amazing. This time the "luck" was on his side just about managing to avoid the carnage at the start. An advantage to start from the back for once very happy to retain it and was already looking forward to defending his WINTERNATIONALS crown at Eastboune on the 5th of January next year".

Once that interview had concluded Michael then amazingly and genorously gave his winners TROPHY to ME! Gleefully I accepted it and walked away out of the track with it happily in my hands. A nice early BIRTHDAY present as it was a week away! Thanks and many congratulations Michael.
