MEETING REPORT
SUNDAY 5th JANUARY 2025
ARLINGTON STADIUM EASTBOURNE
SUPERSTOX 2025 WINTERNATIONALS
DONT TELL HIM PIKE COLES HOLES IN ONE TO WINTERNATIONALS!!
SORRY for the LATENESS of this REPORT but have been SNOWED under with several matters to deal with privately and other SPORTING EVENTS to attend but hey here it is and hope that this reminds those of you that were present at this meeting what took place in it! It sure has, me!
15 drivers arrived at a very very wet and miserable Arlington Stadium Eastbourne to contest this years WINTERNATIONALS. En route to the stadium spectators had to drive their cars through flooded roads as most of the fields around the track were covered in water. There was even a river flowing through the back of the PIT AREA the weather was so bad!! This sure was going to be a meeting for the "wet weather experts" in the class.
I managed to get round the pits pre-meeting to see a welcome returnee back to the class after a five year hiatus. This driver being 411 Aaron Williamson who arrived with the car that was formerly owned by Northern Irish driver 919 Dean Catherwood.
Race format was 2 HEATS which carried POINTS on each with the best/worst points scoring drivers getting to line up at the front/back of the WINTERNATIONALS grid which was to be our last race of the day. Heat one being an out of the hat draw carried out in the pits pre-meeting with a reverse grid of that forming the heat two grid.
All 15 drivers contested HEAT ONE which saw an early spinner on the Hailsham turn in 591 Reid Murray with local driver 454 Dave Pike assuming the early lead role in the race. Reid was having a torrid time as he spun again, this time on the back straight being joined on the "former" Speedway shale by 99 Christopher Phillips who had spun also. Chris rejoining to then spin entering the home straight being hit from behind by 411 Aaron Williamson and 702 Allen Cooper who simply could not avoid him with all 3 cars diverting to the Speedway track as the race continued to see the win going to 454 DAVE PIKE as he simply rolled back the years to win it. The "Squirrel" just holding off a hard charging 511 Martyn Coles to win it by just 3 car lengths with the "Duck" 713 Ian Beaumont liking his wet surroundings to place third. GREAT seeing our LONGEST serving pilot winning this one. Surely this man deserves a TESTIMONIAL. Just putting it out there!
HEAT ONE RESULT
454 DAVE PIKE 511 713 154 54 515 419 169 117 418
ALL 15 drivers contested HEAT TWO seeing the defending champion and pole sitter 154 Michael Green assume the lead role of the race as the racing was a bit spread out caused by the tricky track conditions. A few laps in Michael was to lose his lead by being spun on the Hailsham turn by 511 Martyn Coles as he took the lead with Michael making a "fast" recovery to continue his role in the race. This incident seeing 591 Reid Murray caught up in it as his car hit the wall. The last action of note seeing 515 Jordan Aylward fast spinning the 418 Luke Barkham car on the back straight seeing it end up on the Speedway. Mastering the conditions though was 511 MARTYN COLES as he simply went off into the distance to win it by over 10 car lengths from a recovered 154 Michael Green with 713 Ian Beaumont finishing in third place for the second time in the meeting. A fine fifth place going to the returnee 411 Aaron Williamson with previous race winner 454 Dave Pike finishing in sixth.
HEAT TWO RESULT
511 MARTYN COLES 154 713 515 411 454 99 702 54 169
After all the POINTS were added up this is how the grid for the WINTERNATIONALS looked.
2025 WINTERNATIONALS GRID 14 CARS ALL IN A LINE
511 154 713 454 515 54 169 419 117 418 22 99 702 591
The race got under way seeing the defending champion 154 Michael Green spun on the pits turn by 713 Ian Beaumont right at the start. We then saw the previous race winner 454 Dave Pike spun twice firstly by 54 Harry Sturt and then the chasing pack both of these incidents taking place on the back straight. Moments later the car of 117 Dan Cole hit the wall on the Hailsham turn and was left facing front on to the traffic. The race steward declaring a halt to the race at this point as Dans car was in a dangerous position so that the recovery crews could tow it to safety on the infield.
The restart seeing 511 Martyn Coles get away from 713 Ian Beaumont immediately on its flag fall never to lose the lead. Behind him all hell was going on! A recovered 154 Michael Green being spun again this time by the "play-full" 54 Harry Sturt entering the home straight. A MINI DD then ensuing against the wall between the pair with Michael main aggressor as front bumpers were then exchanged! Harrys getting used to DDS having having had one with 702 Allen Cooper at the recent BEST IN BRITAIN meeting at Hednesford. This incident certainly getting the TONGUES wagging both on the terraces and in the pits afterwards! The rest of the race being a lot less eventful seeing 511 MARTYN COLES deliver a master class to win it and the WINTERNATIONALS title by over three quarters of a straight from former EUROPEAN CHAMPION 713 Ian Beaumont with the current SOUTHERN CHAMPION 515 Jordan Aylward completing the podium to finish in third. All with fine drives with another fine drive for 4th coming from 169 Jayden Brooker with ex Brisca F2 pilot 702 Allen Cooper finishing in fifth thus getting his best place in the class to date with 99 Christopher Phillips completing the top 6. Just 9 cars completing the distance.
In the pits afterwards I managed to speak to the new CHAMPION. MARTYN saying to me "that the race was a nice one to win really enjoying the proper Stock Car conditions out there and thanked all his sponsors both OLD and NEW."
SUPERSTOX 2025 WINTERNATIONALS RESULT

RUNNER UP : 713 IAN BEAUMONT
THIRD : 515 JORDAN AYLWARD

All this means that MARTYN now wins his FOURTH title in the class having won this one back in 2023 making it 2 WINTERNATIONALS titles to go with his wins in the BRITISH and OPEN SCOTTISH. Many congratulations MARTYN from ME and the rest of the Superstox WORLD.
