With Heathrow being closed today, I’ve been busy assisting clients due to travel to or from London. I’ve been up since 3.30am helping to rearrange their travel plans and to provide reassurance.

I’m currently at Buenos Aires airport waiting for my flight back to Heathrow.

For our final night in Argentina, we enjoyed a wonderful culinary experience where we learned how to make empanadas and were served an authentic Argentine feast washed down with some great local wines.

The quality of the food and service were excellent. What a fantastic way to round off the amazing time we’ve had in this part of the world.

I ♥️ Argentina and hope to be back one day soon.

Due to two enormous weather systems hitting the Drake Passage (the treacherous body of water separating Antarctica from South America and our route between the two) the captain of our ship wisely decided to cut our Antarctic expedition short by a day to get ahead of the incoming storm and return us safely to Ushuaia on the southern tip of Argentina from where we had begun our adventure.

It proved to be an excellent decision since although we had to endure two full days of the notorious ‘Drake Shake’ without respite (10 metre waves/swell and 70 knot winds pretty much all the way through) we dodged the 20 metre waves and 100 knot winds forecast to hit us if we had stayed in Antarctica for that further day as originally scheduled.

That said, the journey across the Drake Passage was tough even by the standards of the most experienced on board.

Having arrived into Ushuaia a day early, we enjoyed a few hours exploring the picturesque Tierra del Fuego National Park. We got lucky with the weather since although it was extremely windy, we had blue skies and relative warmth, and were treated to some beautiful views looking across to Chile and the start of the Andes. Famous as the “End of the World” the Tierra del Fuego National Park is also where the Transamerica Highway ends (or begins).

It was quite a thought to consider that you could travel all the way up to Alaska from this point on a continuous road. It certainly whetted Ash’s appetite for his motorcycle adventures!

Today, we depart Ushuaia for Buenos Aires and our final night in this wonderful country.

A simply stunning adventure to the bottom of the world.

Our 11 nights in, around, and on, the Antarctic Peninsula have been spectacular. I can’t quite find the words to describe it.

From the mesmerising icebergs, to the playful penguins, the majestic humpback whales, and the deadly leopard seals, every moment has been priceless.

The expedition team looked after us every second of the journey whether we were out on a zodiac or back on board our polar icebreaker mothership, the Ocean Endeavour.

We are going to miss them and the dedicated crew of the ship. Special mention must go to the amazing catering team who somehow managed to serve us a 5 course dinner in 70 knot winds and 10 metre waves as we passed through the Drake Passage!

Although getting to and from Antarctica certainly isn’t for the faint hearted (some of the most treacherous seas anywhere in the world) to finally see and step on the Great White Continent - and to follow in the footsteps of some of my heroes - will live with me forever.

Day 5: Buenos Aires Walking Tour

Now back in Argentina’s beautiful capital, we did a private walking tour of the city. Santiago, our lovely local guide, took us around the hip neighbourhoods of La Boca and San Telma, plus the historic centre of town.

Going on a tour, especially of a large city like Buenos Aires, is a fantastic way to get to know a place when you have limited time. Santiago took us to some of his favourite haunts - cafes, markets, streets and bars - which we’d be hard pressed to stumble across ourselves in such a short period. We learnt so much about life in Buenos Aires from Santiago as well as the history of the city.

This town is football crazy so checking out the colourful neighbourhood of La Boca (home to Boca Juniors FC) was an absolute must. It’s also where much of Argentina’s tango heritage originated. With Santiago’s help, we even discovered an incredible gelato place!

Today, we’re heading to the upmarket northern suburbs of Palermo and Ricoleta for our last day in this beautiful city.

Day 3: Incredible Iguazu, wonder of the world

Today we explored these amazing waterfalls from the Argentinian side, and wow, they didn’t disappoint.

Made up of over 275 separate falls, they seem to go on endlessly. We’ve been lucky to see Victoria and Niagara Falls but Iguazu eclipses them both. The fact that they are the only one of the three to enjoy UNESCO World Heritage status, also makes them extra special.

What a wonder of the natural world, and what a place to visit as part of our 20th anniversary year. I can’t believe it’s taken us so long to get here!

Absolutely delighted to have booked my wonderful clients, Jim and Amanda Stoner, on a 3-centre North American road trip. Starting in Vancouver, they’ll be exploring the city before driving to wonderful Whistler for skiing and birthday celebrations. They’ll then be making their way back to Vancouver to take a flight down to San Diego on the Californian coast.

Often overlooked in favour of San Fransciso or Los Angeles, San Diego is a hip and perfectly-formed city which offers so much to the visitor. Away from the gorgeous golden beaches, there are amazing restaurants, a thriving music scene, fabulous opportunities to experience the great outdoors, and much cool street culture to experience.

This is the SIXTH road trip I have booked for clients since the beginning of the year. It’s such a fantastic way to travel and to experience a destination (it’s actually my favourite style of holiday).

This is Mark Sutton, another of my many happy customers. We were introduced late last year through one of my corporate clients, who kindly referred me to him. In our initial conversation, he told me that he had long dreamt of travelling to India to experience an authentic meditation retreat but wasn’t sure where to start. It had been a lifelong ambition of Mark’s to go on this type of trip, so he was absolutely determined to make it perfect. That’s where I came in.

With my first-hand experience of India and by working closely with my on-the-ground team, I created a bespoke two-week itinerary for Mark, involving him every step of the way. Featuring knowledgeable local guides and ‘meet and greet’ transfer representatives, Mark was fully supported throughout his journey allowing him to quickly relax and immerse himself in India’s unique atmosphere.

Beginning in the capital, Delhi, I arranged a private street food tour and rickshaw ride around the bustling old town. The following day, Mark took a train to Haridwar, in the foothills of the Himalayas, where he was met by a driver for the final leg of the journey to Rishikesh.

Rishikesh is a holy city straddling the banks of India’s sacred river, the Ganges. Mark spent 9 days at a renowned ashram (a spiritual centre) on a silent meditation retreat, a truly life-enhancing experience.

For his free day at the end of his time in Rishikesh, I organised a private tour of the town, a visit to another ashram that was made famous by the Beatles in the Sixties, and the opportunity for Mark to participate in organised evening prayers on the banks of the Ganges. From Rishikesh, Mark headed back to Delhi for his final night in India, before returning to the UK.

With Super Bowl LIX taking place in New Orleans today, I thought I’d share this fantastic journey through the Deep South.
