Absolutely delighted to have booked my wonderful clients, Jim and Amanda Stoner, on a 3-centre North American road trip. Starting in Vancouver, they’ll be exploring the city before driving to wonderful Whistler for skiing and birthday celebrations. They’ll then be making their way back to Vancouver to take a flight down to San Diego on the Californian coast.

Often overlooked in favour of San Fransciso or Los Angeles, San Diego is a hip and perfectly-formed city which offers so much to the visitor. Away from the gorgeous golden beaches, there are amazing restaurants, a thriving music scene, fabulous opportunities to experience the great outdoors, and much cool street culture to experience.

This is the SIXTH road trip I have booked for clients since the beginning of the year. It’s such a fantastic way to travel and to experience a destination (it’s actually my favourite style of holiday).

This is Mark Sutton, another of my many happy customers. We were introduced late last year through one of my corporate clients, who kindly referred me to him. In our initial conversation, he told me that he had long dreamt of travelling to India to experience an authentic meditation retreat but wasn’t sure where to start. It had been a lifelong ambition of Mark’s to go on this type of trip, so he was absolutely determined to make it perfect. That’s where I came in.

With my first-hand experience of India and by working closely with my on-the-ground team, I created a bespoke two-week itinerary for Mark, involving him every step of the way. Featuring knowledgeable local guides and ‘meet and greet’ transfer representatives, Mark was fully supported throughout his journey allowing him to quickly relax and immerse himself in India’s unique atmosphere.

Beginning in the capital, Delhi, I arranged a private street food tour and rickshaw ride around the bustling old town. The following day, Mark took a train to Haridwar, in the foothills of the Himalayas, where he was met by a driver for the final leg of the journey to Rishikesh.

Rishikesh is a holy city straddling the banks of India’s sacred river, the Ganges. Mark spent 9 days at a renowned ashram (a spiritual centre) on a silent meditation retreat, a truly life-enhancing experience.

For his free day at the end of his time in Rishikesh, I organised a private tour of the town, a visit to another ashram that was made famous by the Beatles in the Sixties, and the opportunity for Mark to participate in organised evening prayers on the banks of the Ganges. From Rishikesh, Mark headed back to Delhi for his final night in India, before returning to the UK.

With Super Bowl LIX taking place in New Orleans today, I thought I’d share this fantastic journey through the Deep South.

A fascinating trip along the musical spine of the United States, this is one of those itineraries that I’d love to do myself one day.

Sounds of the Deep South takes in Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee.

Starting in Nashville the home of country music, travelling to Elvis’ home town of Memphis for some Rock and Roll, soak up the Delta Blues exploring the small towns on the Mississippi river before being awed by the jazz musicians of New Orleans.

Whoever comes out on top today, will be a worthy winner. But…Go Chiefs!

They are heading there in April which is one of the best times of year to visit this Indian Ocean island paradise - the lack of wind that month means it’s the perfect time for snorkelling and scuba diving in the Seychelles.

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about our whirlwind 16-day trip across Canada in September 2023.

Featuring a drive from Vancouver to Calgary over the Rockies and a flight east for a few days in Canada’s largest city, Toronto, and a night in Niagara Falls, all-in-all we covered over 3,200 miles.

Canada is a sparsely populated place blessed with jaw-dropping scenery, an array of climates and ecosystems, and an amazing variety of wildlife.
 
We began our trip with an 11-hour flight from London to Vancouver which was stunning in itself as we flew low over Iceland, Greenland, and the Canadian Arctic on an entirely cloudless day.
 
In Vancouver, we soaked up the laidback vibes of the diverse neighbourhoods which make up this picturesque coastal city.

From there, we took a seaplane to neighbouring Vancouver Island where we went whale watching, spotting over 40 orcas and a handful of humpbacks too.

After that, we began our drive across the Rockies passing through Whistler, Sun Peaks, Jasper, and Banff before finishing in Calgary. We were surrounded by towering snow-capped mountains, and enormous aquamarine lakes, most of the way.

Highlights included encounters with grizzly bears and elks, a boat tour of Lake Maligne, seeing Lake Louise, a hike over the Athabasca Glacier at the Columbia Icefields (on the same day that NASA scientists were there testing a rover for an upcoming mission), and climbing Sulphur Mountain (2,500m ASL) in Banff.
 
Toronto and Niagara Falls were also well worth a visit (in particular, the charming village of Niagara-on-the-Lake is lovely) but if – like me – you hanker after something wilder and more adventurous, then Canada’s west is a good place to start.
