We will be focusing on some of the best trattorias in Italy whose aim is to showcase and celebrate their region, to foster a connection to the land, and to develop a project that preserves ancient traditions and the products. The canvas is the landscape of Italian cuisine—rich in complexity, diversity, and local character."

We start our journey in Coloreto Parma at AI DUE PLATANI. The restaurant was founded in the 1920s, but since 1960 it has become a gastronomic reference point for Parmesan people fleeing the city. Giancarlo Tavani, Giampietro Stancari and Mattia Serventi have continued the history of the trattoria since 2005, paying particular attention to the protection of traditional places and techniques, food and atmosphere. With an outstanding menu.

Allow us to create the perfect bespoke Italian gastronomic tour for you.

Naples is a city rich in history and culture, and nowhere is this more evident than in its many churches. From grand cathedrals to hidden chapels, each church tells a unique story of Naples’ past, blending architectural styles from Gothic and Renaissance to Baroque. The iconic Naples Cathedral (Duomo di San Gennaro) stands out as a symbol of devotion, housing the relics of Saint Januarius, the city’s beloved patron. Meanwhile, the Church of Gesù Nuovo and the breathtaking Santa Chiara Monastery reveal centuries of artistry and faith. Whether for history, art, or a quiet moment of reflection, Naples’ churches offer a profound connection to the city's soul and spirit.

Vesuvius versus Etna

Ah, Vesuvius versus Etna - the battle of the Italian titans! These two mighty volcanoes have captivated human fascination for centuries with their fiery tempers and explosive eruptions. Vesuvius, located near Naples, is infamous for its devastating eruption in 79 AD that buried the cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum in ash and pumice. Etna, on the other hand, looms over Sicily and holds the title of Europe's tallest active volcano. Despite their intimidating reputations, both mountains are popular tourist attractions offering breathtaking views and thrilling hiking experiences. When it comes to choosing a favourite between Vesuvius and Etna, it's like trying to pick between pizza or pasta - impossible! Just sit back, enjoy the show (from a safe distance), and marvel at Mother Nature's incredible power.

Elba Versus Ischia

When it comes to choosing between Elba and Ischia, it's like picking between two fabulous Italian brothers - both incredible in their own right, but with slightly different personalities. Elba, the rugged and adventurous one, boasts stunning beaches, crystal-clear waters perfect for diving, and picturesque fishing villages to explore. Meanwhile, Ischia is the sophisticated sibling, known for its lush gardens, thermal spas with healing properties, and elegant resorts overlooking the sparkling Tyrrhenian Sea. Whether you're in the mood for a wild adventure or a relaxing retreat, these two siblings have got you covered. So why choose just one? Why not hop from island to island and experience the best of both worlds? After all, life is too short to limit yourself to just one extraordinary destination!

Turin versus Milan

Ah, the age-old debate between Turin and Milan, two of Italy's most iconic cities. Turin, with its elegant architecture, wide boulevards, and rich history as the former capital of Italy, may boast a sense of grandeur and sophistication unmatched by its northern rival. However, Milan, the thriving fashion and financial hub, exudes a unique blend of modernity and tradition that sets it apart as a trendsetter in art, design, and commerce. While Turin entices with its Baroque palaces and stunning alpine backdrop, Milan seduces with its high-end shopping streets and bustling nightlife scene. It's truly a clash of titans – or should I say Gucci-clad gladiators? So whether you prefer the refined charm of Turin or the cosmopolitan allure of Milan, one thing is for certain: you'll be spoiled for choice

Bologna versus Lecce

Two charming Italian cities with their own unique personalities and quirks. Bologna, known as "La Dotta" (The Learned), is a vibrant university town famous for its historic architecture, delicious cuisine (hello, tortellini!), and lively social scene. On the other hand, Lecce is a picturesque gem in Southern Italy fondly referred to as the "Florence of the South" for its stunning Baroque architecture and sun-soaked landscapes. While Bologna boasts a rich intellectual heritage and bustling energy, Lecce captivates visitors with its laid-back charm and idyllic Mediterranean vibes. So, whether you're craving cultural immersion or relaxation by the coast, each city offers a delightful experience – choose wisely or just visit both for a truly bella vita!

Maratea versus Tropea

Choosing between Maratea and Tropea is like deciding between two Italian supermodels - it's a tough job, but someone's gotta do it. Maratea, with its charming old town perched high on a hillside overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, offers a more serene and intimate atmosphere. The town is home to stunning beaches and elegant villas, perfect for those seeking a more upscale vacation experience. On the other hand, Tropea is like the fiery red lipstick-wearing bombshell of Southern Italy. This bustling coastal town boasts dramatic cliffs, crystal-clear waters, and a vibrant nightlife scene that will leave you breathless. So, whether you prefer sophistication or excitement, both Maratea and Tropea have something special to offer - just like those supermodels strutting their stuff on the catwalks of Milan.

Naples Versus Palermo

Ah, the perpetual debate between Naples and Palermo - two gems of Southern Italy that couldn't be more different if they tried. Naples boasts its chaotic charm with bustling streets, world-renowned pizza, and a vibrant energy that never seems to fade. On the other hand, Palermo exudes a laid-back elegance with its ancient history, stunning architecture, and delectable street food scene. While Napoli may have the upper hand when it comes to nightlife and urban grit, Palermo wins in terms of cultural heritage and natural beauty. The choice between these two cities ultimately comes down to personal preference - are you seeking an adrenaline-fuelled adventure or a leisurely exploration through history? Whichever you choose, one thing is for certain: both Naples and Palermo will leave you awe-struck and craving more with their unique personalities and unforgettable experiences.

Our Story

The Italian Connection is all about creating a bespoke Italian holiday. We listen to your specific needs and design our holidays with only you in mind. www.italian-connection.co.uk

At The Italian Connection & Spirito Italiano, our main job is to take care of your Italian holiday and travel needs, but that is not all we do. When we say "take care", we mean exactly that. Our consultants are all Italian and know the country inside out and will help you create the perfect experience. From discovering the art and culture of Italy to touring off the beaten track and unearthing inaccessible villages and exploring new gems while of course savouring legendary wines and enjoying the regional foods. Why not tell us what you want from a skiing holiday. The winter sports centres of the Italian Alps and the Dolomites have diversity enough for all if you know where to look. Perhaps you wish to enjoy the Spring serenity of Sicily or the milder, misty climes of the Tuscan hills in Autumn. Whether you are after the cosy B&B or the all-inclusive resort, the city apartment or the luxury pad, we have a vast selection on offer. Whatever your reasons for travelling to Italy, whether your wish is to indulge, unwind, learn or discover, play or simply relax, all you need to do is to let us know and allow us to create the perfect itinerary. We take away all the stress and ensure that our bespoke proposals do not miss out on the essentials and the tiniest of detail. We ensure that your trip is exquisitely planned, allowing you to fully enjoy yourself as soon as your feet touch the ground. Whether you are after a slow Italian holiday, you just wish to relax and indulge, perhaps a multi-centre trip where you want to take in as much of Italy as possible, or perhaps you are after a last-minute trip or wish to or wish to enjoy an opera, a football or rugby match or exhibition which is being held.

You will hear much these days about tailor-made holidays, but, when we say it, we mean precisely that. We do not recommend packages somewhere near your requirements, our holidays are bespoke. They are as far from the run of the mill package tour as the Brenner Pass is from the island of Pantelleria. All we need to know is how long you have available, indicative dates and budget and an idea of what you wish to achieve, and then all you need to do is to leave the rest to us.
