Yarm Junior Open Bronze Event Report
Yarm Squash Club held its annual junior open on the 2nd and 3rd of December. The event was sponsored by local speciality chemical firm Chemoxy International and sports goods manufacturer Dunlop. The event was sanctioned by England Squash and attracted competitors from all over the north of England and some from as far as Worcestershire and even Hampshire. A total of 74 competitors entered the event, with boys and girls playing in age categories from U11 to U19. With over 120 matches scheduled over two days some players were on court as early as 8.30am on both days. Matches ran back to back on almost all the courts throughout the weekend, keeping tournament staff busy preparing score sheets, marking games, recording results and updating the game schedule.
Sunday was the business end of the event with successful players winning through to final matches. This generated some exciting matches that thoroughly entertained the spectators who crowded the balconies.
