So often when I travel, I find it hard to fall straight asleep straight away. My mind is typically full of excitement about being in a new location, and what I have planned for the next day. Reading a chapter or two is a great way to calm your mind and set you up for an energizing and refreshing night’s sleep.

In 2009 the University of Sussex conducted a study which revealed that reading a newspaper or book can reduce your stress levels by up to 68%, making it a far more effective means of relaxation than taking a walk, drinking a cup of tea, or watching a film.

I’m determined to make reading part of my daily self-care routine, and with a new month around the corner it feels like the perfect time to start. I'd love to hear what you're reading...

Happy Shrove Tuesday!

Traditionally during Lent, Christians would give up rich, tasty foods such as butter, eggs, sugar and fat. Shrove Tuesday was the last chance to eat them – and what better way to do so than with a delicious pancake! Yum!

Pancake Day brings back so many happy childhood memories for me. The whole family gathered around the Aga as we all tried to master the art of flipping! The 'oohs' and the 'ahhhhs' and a kitchen filled with laughter (and pancake mix!)....heaven.

I do hope you enjoy yours today.

Revive and thrive this weekend.

Whether it’s dressing up, watching the vintage cars tear around the track, or meeting a collection of skilled and talented makers at the Revive and Thrive Village, the Goodwood Revival is something very special indeed.

This year will be poignant for obvious reasons and the event will honour the by staff wearing black armbands as a mark of respect and Goodwood encourage visitors to join in this simple gesture. A book of condolence will also be available to sign by the Memorial Garden on Lawn and a minutes silence will be observed at 2000hrs on Sunday evening bringing the event to a close.

We hope you create some magical memories at this unique event this weekend and raise a glass (or two) to our amazing Monarch and her extraordinary life of duty and service to us all 🤍

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Her dedication and service to people across the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth and around the world has been immeasurable, and she will be greatly missed.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Royal Family at this sad time.

I’m a huge fan of seizing the day and there is something quite magical about a picnic just before autumn. It’s when we can all raise a last glass and a hurrah to the summer, and what a summer it’s been!
 
We’ve been inundated with enquiries as to our launch and we will be celebrating our picnic this weekend with a bottle of something very special as we launch in just a few weeks!

It's blackberry season - yum!

Even if you don’t live in a rural area, this hardy sweet fruit grows in urban hedgerows too, so grab your Tupperware and forage!

Here is my favourite blackberry recipe from - the humble but oh so delicious apple and blackberry crumble…enjoy!

Recipe:

3 Braeburn apples (or any other sweet eating apples), peeled, cored and sliced into wedges
300g blackberries
½ lemon, juiced
150g golden caster sugar
¼ tsp ground cinnamon
2 tbsp demerara sugar
to serve custard or ice cream, crème fraiche or Greek yoghurt
350g plain flour
175g salted butter, chilled and diced
100g golden caster sugar

Heat the oven to 190C/fan 170C/gas 5.

Method:

Put the flour and butter in a food processor and pulse to rough breadcrumbs or crumble with fingers (making sure the butter is ice cold). Stir in the sugar and a big pinch of salt. Then mix the apples with the blackberries, lemon juice, golden caster sugar and cinnamon.

Place the fruit in a large ovenproof dish and scatter over the crumble mix, spreading evenly, then press into place with the back of your hand or wooden spoon. Sprinkle with demerara sugar for an extra sweet crunch. Bake for 50 minutes or until golden on top and the sauce is bubbling up around the edges. Leave to sit out of the oven for 10 minutes, then serve with custard, cream, and/ or ice cream!

Autumn love in a bowl. Heaven.

With the sun shining (miraculously) on his unique Bank Holiday, whether you're a Royalist or not, I hope you take a moment to honour our wonderful Queen today and her 70 years in reign.

The Queen has always put her duties at the forefront of her life and guided the nation through enormous social and economic change, with style, compassion, and grace.

So as the Queen took to the balcony to watch the today I imagine many of you (like me) shed a nostalgic tear or two.
