FUNDRAISING AUCTION

The Conscious Travel Foundation is hosting its inaugural auction on Friday 24th November at generously sponsored by TCTF member and friend

Our online auction catalogue is now live and open for bidding - see link in bio - and we will continue to add prizes up until the date of the auction. We’d like to say a huge thank you to our friends, members and partners who have donated prizes not only for the auction but also for the prize draw and the raffle taking place on the night.

We still have a handful of tickets left for the event which can be purchased through the link in our bio. Come and enjoy a keynote from with champagne and canapés, before take over for our live auction. Every ticket purchased will be entered for our prize draw to win a 2 night stay for two people at the beautiful Lundies House in far north Scotland, generously donated by .scot

This is Nayda. She is 13 and lives in Urubamba in Peru in Sol Y Luna’s children’s home and I am so proud to help sponsor her. She is very creative and is growing in confidence after a difficult start in life. are an incredible charity in the Sacred Valley, Peru. Run by the inspirational , it has helped so many children through education and through their children’s home.
They desperately need help with more sponsors for the increasing number of children they are taking in. I recently met with the global Six Senses team for updates on all their new and existing properties. I like their commitment to sustainability and forward thinking when it comes to guest experiences and now they have a portfolio extending from Caribbean through Europe to Asia and growing.

Winter Wonderland ❄️

As the year draws to a close, I have been reflecting on 2022 and how wonderful it has been to travel unfettered once again.

Alongside the distinct privilege of planning my clients’ holidays, I have also been lucky enough to indulge my own wanderlust again, exploring the world in a new light post pandemic - from meditating in the mountains of Sri Lanka and learning about anti rhino poaching conservation efforts in Zimbabwe, to most recently, visiting the children of the in the Sacred Valley of Peru.

These remarkable travel experiences have given me an insight into the amazing efforts that so many people and places are undertaking to protect our beautiful planet, making me optimistic about the future of travel and the benefit it can have on global communities, whilst providing truly unforgettable, meaningful experiences for those travelling.

With another exciting year on the horizon, I want to wish all my clients, suppliers and travel friends a very Merry Christmas and a peaceful, healthy and Happy New Year.

Earlier this month, I was incredibly privileged to return to the beautiful in Peru’s Sacred Valley. And whilst the beguiling scenery, rich culture and endless activities are the main draw to tourists visiting the area, my visit had a different purpose - to spend time at - the childrens’ home and school supported by the operations of the hotel.

With 120 children at the school and Paqari, and 19 in the home, supporting and safeguarding these children requires significant funding and due to the effects of the pandemic, they can no longer rely solely on the profits from the hotel. There is now an annual campaign to cover everything at the home, from staff, food, clothes, medical and educational supplies, physical therapy and anything else that is needed. Plus the occasional treat such as the first time to the cinema up in Cusco!

The wonderful realises what a massive task lies ahead continuing to support, fund and elevate the experience for these children. Peru. A country of contrasts. Snow capped mountains and tropical rivers, ancient cultures and contemporary fusion cuisine - with so much to explore and something for everyone. I feel incredibly lucky to have just spent another life-affirming week here, exploring the mountains of the Sacred Valley, discovering the Peruvian Amazon onboard and soaking up Lima’s cutting edge food scene.

Our adventure began at in the Sacred Valley, home to ancient cultural and spiritual mysteries and wild, mountain landscapes, before heading to the steamy jungles of the Amazon spotting wildlife and learning the indigenous wisdom of local tribes from the comfort of Delfin. Our journey ended in the often overlooked Lima - with its bohemian neighbourhoods and modern gastronomy.

Thank you for a magical stay in your slice of Andalusian paradise… late October sunshine stunning scenery and wonderful hosts making you feel totally at home, together with exploring the working farm combine to make a very special stay. The regenerative farming methods and farm to table food were impressive and delicious and a tour of the extensive medicinal plant garden is a must! As is watching the amazing Seamus communicate with the beautiful Lusitanos through natural horsemanship. Our walk through nature with the calm donkeys was so restorative and La Donaira can plan tailored programmes around your interests. With only a handful of gorgeous suites, staying here is an absolute treat for the senses and a total detox from city life!

I am delighted to have been an award winner at Virtuoso Travel Week in Las Vegas last week. Alongside my wonderful colleague and fellow member of Virtuoso Katie Terrington, we were presented with the Member Recognition award for ‘Protecting the Planet’ which was for our work setting up The Conscious Travel Foundation over the last 2 years alongside running our travel businesses.

We see this as a team effort from all the co-founders of TCTF and are really proud to have had this global recognition from the travel industry to raise awareness of the community we continue to build.

We hope to encourage our clients to travel with purpose and to collaborate with our members in the travel industry to look towards a more sustainable travel future.

What an amazing first few days here in Norway, exploring rural Kongsvinger and compact yet cultured Oslo. What’s impressed me the most thus far is Norway’s forward-thinking attitude and focus on sustainable luxury tourism (after decades of relying on an oil economy) and its commitment to being a gender-equal society and supporting women leaders. Being here with some of my fellow Founders has been really inspiring.

Our hosts have introduced us to some true innovators and taken us to visit some remarkable, off-grid destinations, including where we met with three of Norway’s most exciting sustainable brands - powered by women on the west coast, and Othallo – making affordable housing out of plastic waste. A little further to travel but so worth the effort, Singita Pamushana offers unfettered access to the incredible wildlife and landscapes of Malilangwe. We saw no other vehicles; the game viewing was off the charts and our guides were exceptional. As ever, it is the people who make the stay and guides Tyme and David were wonderful.

Alongside daily safaris there is so much to do here at Pamushana, from authentic cultural experiences, river trips and spending time in a ‘hide’ to give you eye-level interactions with birds and wildlife - head to my reels to get a taste of our game drives here in Malilangwe.

But safari is about so much more than just wildlife viewing, it is about the ongoing preservation of the natural environment and the species that depend on it, whilst creating opportunities for local communities. Beyond the phenomenal safari experience, Singita are doing some amazing things through the Malilangwe Trust to help preserve this incredible landscape and its endangered species. You truly feel part of something special being here.

The Foundation was delighted to announce Virunga as the first ever beneficiary of The Conscious Travel Foundation Charitable Fund, made possible by the membership fees of our members in our first year of operation.

We are so grateful to Emmanuel for his time and for sharing a first-hand account of life in the Congolese mountains – and how they plan on using our donation to help breathe new life into the tourism industry in this remarkable corner of the world.

I know I speak on behalf of our members and supporters when I say how proud we are to be able to support Virunga in this exciting new endeavour – we can’t wait to see how plans unfold. And if anyone hasn’t yet watched Virunga on Netflix, I urge you to watch this powerful film that continues to raise awareness for this remarkable cause.

I am really enjoying being able to create exciting, adventurous journeys for my clients once again. With more destinations opening up to the world, I am relishing having more of the globe at my fingertips - igniting my wanderlust and planning the kind of trips that I love to design.
