The elevated property is sited on just under an acre of land, backed by managed forest.

Have you the desire to escape the ever-bustling ‘rat race’? I did.

I live in what has been described as informal luxury, in a home with en-suite bedrooms, in an ever-changing picture landscape.
Where neighbours are a field or two away, out in the country where I observe the seasons in unspoilt natural landscapes with big open skies.

I am able to step out across the valley onto the mountain. Cycle meanderings country lanes or direct to town down the ‘national cycleway’, or partake in an activity on or by the sea that is just out of sight.
On not such an energetic note, I can watch clouds define the hollows in the hills, occasionally hiding the mountains that give the feel of living on the open plains. On rare days, I feel as if I live on an island, as the lands around my property are shrouded in mist.
I watch the weather. As the ‘classic walking’ Nantlle ridge across the valley has winter days in snow, I remain secure, protected by the ‘gulf stream’, which passes nearby just off the coast. Then it may rain on my neighbour while I am still enjoying in the sun. Mornings provide the anticipation of viewing the rising sun over Snowdonia and later laying the mountains red, as it sets beyond the sea.

Would you like to own history? A property revered by the locals as part of their past. Not a ‘listed’ building but one that has provided happy times, on land that has been named by what seems a mythical past.

The manageable gardens have lawns, orchard and raised vegetable beds. Patio and play area with slide and swings topped with a high den. Access a managed forest to ride your horse on the bridleway or walk your dogs through the gate from the corner of the garden.

Are you looking to run your own businesses from home, or at very least receive an income from your home, or part of it rented out to tenants? Provide part of your home for extended family, an elder in the granny annex.

Would you prefer to have a workshop, office or studio across the lawn from where one lives?

The Old School with Headmasters house and Granny annex is this gem, and it has provided these services for the past 25years. This is where I live and is now ‘For Sale’.

Just take on your dream…

Snow on the Pyg Track on the Snowdon Horseshoe on the 4th March. Very Busy with walkers and dogs. Initially a walk up to the Pyg track to take photos for a friend, but I continued along to the junction to the Miners track with my two dogs.

Mountain Weather forecast - Snowdonia National Park
The Snowdonia Mountains are made up of 90 mountain peaks including the tallest mountain in Wales, Snowdon, standing at 1,085m. It can be divided into four areas with the northernmost area the most popular, including peaks such as Moel Hebog, Myndd Mawr and the Nantlle Ridge. Many hikers tend to concentrate on Snowdon itself regarding it as a fine mountain. However it can become quite crowded, particularly with the Snowdon Mountain Railway running to the summit.
Moving into Wales brings with it a return to the high, imposing peaks of the Lakes and Highlands. The area is most famed for Mount Snowdon, the highest peak in England and Wales at some 1,085 metres above sea level. The peak welcomes around half a million visitors every year, of which four fifths scale the peak on foot, whilst the remainder opt to take the train instead.
One of the mountain's main attractions is the sheer number and variety of paths reaching the peak. This means that everyone from mountaineering novices to climbing experts should find a way up Snowdon that will suit their abilities or provide them with a sufficient test. The easiest is the Llanberis path which - being the longest - has the most shallow ascent. Conversely, the Watkin Path is widely seen as being the most demanding ascent, despite also being named the prettiest.
The Snowdonia Mountains weather page provides a 5 day weather forecast for many places within Snowdonia Mountains and the surrounding area, featuring 3 hourly updates on weather conditions for rainfall, temperature, wind speed and wind direction.
Weather Warnings and alerts for the Snowdonia region are also displayed during periods of severe weather. We warn the public and emergency responders of severe or hazardous weather which has the potential to cause danger to life or widespread disruption through our National Severe Weather Warning Service. Weather warnings are displayed for rain, snow, wind, fog and ice. For more information please view our Weather warnings guide page.

Snowdonia is a unique destination - not for any one reason, but for many.
Only Snowdonia offers an array of outdoor pursuits in such a distinctive and picturesque landscape. With so many coastlines, the land and sea offer unlimited accessibility for sports and leisure in a setting that is as geographically diverse as it is beautiful.
Every day - because Snowdonia is a brilliant place to be, no matter what the weather or season.

Only Snowdonia has the environment that can produce its particular style of sauvignon blanc, celebrated the world over. The soils, the climate and our winemakers' vision are what make our award-winning wines impossible to imitate.

Life in the country

Whilst other people have been concerned with the effects of the high winds of late, I awoke to find a heifer in the garden. My concern for the awkward disruptive behaviour of young cows got me moving.

Normally I would breakfast or feed the dogs or walk them at the beginning of the day, but today I had to find where he had come from.
On reaching the back garden, The beast was not to be seen.

My neighbours usually walk their dogs at this time, so warned that a heifer has been seen and may hay ventured on the the bridleway.

Walking up the bridleway, I peered through the back gate, only to see not one but two heifers.

I closed the gate and went around to block the only other exit from the garden. Leaving the heifers quietly enjoying breakfast of the long grass of the back lawn.

Although all phone contacts were out of date, I raised a local farmer who came to identify the stock. Sure enough, one heifer rushed to her, as she had been born premature had been bottle fed.

A bucket feed allowed her to be led home with her accomplice back to her field, believe it or not, in a field surrounded by fields.

All calmly done with hardly a foot print let alone damage.

They say it always rains in Wales...

We've just received a few spots just now, the first since a couple of showers on Sunday, and today Wednesday. I found it hard to believe that elsewhere have been receiving damage from high winds and rain...
Now I must venture out to Bangor for stores, I best take waterproofs if I'm to walk the dogs by there!

Don't you just love it when an idle piano is brought to life.

I have a piano that sits on a area of the house that one might call the music room. The pictures on the walls are of musical instruments. The main piece of furniture is a Parisian Piano.

The other morning I was listening to a CD quietly in the kitchen as I was preparing breakfast for my guest.
After breakfast my guest asked if he could play the piano. The following 30 minutes was bliss,
A lot of what I had been listening to on the CD earlier was being brought out with depth, none of the clutter of other instruments.I could have listen to it all day. The thing is he hadn't heard the CD, but they were some of his favourite tunes.
And he certainly moved the dust off the strings...

Have you been up to Mt. Snowdon?

This is what I asked my mother a year or two before she past away...
No, she replied. Get your coat then...

My mother in her eighties and her partner, blind with only peripheral vision, and in his nineties agreed to walk up to Mt. Snowdon.

We took the miners track from Pen y pass, around the lakes...
to the base of Mt. Snowdon.

"With justification this is one of the most popular walks on the mountain, despite a gruelling ascent in the upper reaches. For much of its length the route follows a restored track, passing around Llyn Teyrn and over the Llyn Llydaw causeway, to the disused copper mines on the shores of Llyn Glaslyn. Here the path scrabbles up a rocky slope to join the upper part of the Pig Track - a junction which is not obvious when descending by this route in mist.

Needless to say, we didn't attempt the rocky slope up to the Pig Track...!

What prompted this thought... Guests staying at the Old School Guest House, had the very same idea this morning...

Good to see people getting up early to make the most of the day. For Three days in a row, and this is not isolated, guests have requested an early breakfast. The activities can be quite diverse, Early train up Snowdon, Early train on the Ffestiniog railway or other. early start home,to attend a local event, 20 mile run, 'Half Ironman', long distance walking or cycling, the reasons list on.
This morning a new attraction in Ffestiniog, trampolines within caverns, zip-wires and downhill mountain biking have grasped my guests imaginations...

A baking day here...

Started yesterday purchasing all the ingredients except the duck eggs.
Fruit cake, banana cakes and fruit tarts. You cannot waste good fruit, then cooking and freezing!

01/08/2014

Last evening I went to the 'The Goat Inn' in Glandwyfach, nr Bryncir.

I've been told by guests that the duck is huge, it was and very tasty. An excellent venue for the locals and our guests.
This was a good excuse for me to celebrate being at Pant Glas Old School, now 'The Old School Guest House' for 23 years.

Guests, yesterday took the train up Mt. Snowdon. However, when they phoned to enquire of availability, they were told they were full until 4 pm. When they arrived to pay for the tickets, they were given seats on the midday train...

Arriving an hour early, My guest walked the Nantlle Ridge having stayed at the 'Snowdon Ranger Hostle the night before.
Andrew is, over time, walking from his home in Nottingham west to the end of the Lleyn Peninsular. Prior to his walk along the Nantlle, he had walked from Ffestiniog over to and up Snowdon before dropping down to Rhydd Ddu.
One problem Andrew did not anticipate was some of the foot paths he was hoping to take did not exist. Unfortunately, here in Wales, many of the former communication, post, or other paths that aided the rural communities to exist, have disappeared through lack of use over the years. We wish you luck on your way.

Hopefully Andrew will see views like this, though not on a road. Looking back towards Snowdonia National Park.
Photo taken on a days ride out to Aberdaron.

Looking back from the forest toward The Old School Guest House, with the Nantlle Ridge in the background. The clouds have lifted and hopefully my guest will be able to make up time and enjoy the views.
I don't know where he started his walk, but he is making his way down to the end of the Lleyn Peninsula.

29/07/2014

So much to do... 'Stop moaning', I hear you say!

Trying to fit in cooking to stoke me up as the day goes on, Depending what's in the cupboard, I try to keep a balanced diet, taking into account my special dietary needs. Basicly, like a 'Hay diet'. That's separating carbohydrates. from the protein. Today I need a good all round dish to follow a salad or alike. So working on a 80/20 ratio of 'Hay diet and processed, I mix my menu. Today with Mrs Beetons Macaroni pudding. and a carbohydrate main dish, potato wedges and salad.

29/07/2014

What have I been up to? Busy Busy Busy,
More guests coming today and one who is walking over from Snowdon along the Nantlle Ridge, The cloud is so low and thick he may have trouble reading his compass.

Welcome to our new Facebook Timeline. We encourage you to browse through our extensive timeline to discover ( or re-discover) some of the the rich history, culture, beauty of this top left hand corner of Wales. North West Snowdonia, as I like to refer to, in my international addresses.
Mt. Snowdon of course is one of our flag ships, a must climb destination for a lot of our guests.
May I thank you for your support in advance, with your 'Likes', and hope we meet up soon.
Well done to my designers, who it seems have a sense of humour.
The photos they have chosen, 'show the icing on the cake', scenes sharp and inviting that show activities with inviting scenery.
Come with me, and I'll hope to share some of my guests experiences whilst staying at the Old School Guest House, as well as some of my own.
