For those of you not on our mailing list, we have some big news. We've decided to take a year off next year, and here's why...

A lot has changed since we started the business – Covid came and went, our insurance has tripled in price, everything else we pay for has almost doubled and we now have a little boy. As most of you know, we run Trek not as our main source of income, but something that used to get a lot of joy from, and making a few quid was a bonus! It also seems our customers’ wants have changed – we estimate that at least 75% of people are now using us as a ‘try before they buy’ service. So with that in mind, our vans are for sale!

They have all been professionally converted by , extremely well maintained and have year’s worth of adventures left in them. We will be selling all 3 vans (we are keeping hold of Cedar for now). Our good friends at Simply Surf Bus, who are able to offer finance should you need it. We are slightly biased, but the conversions on these 3 vans are of a much higher quality than a lot of other campers you can find for sale!

Introducing Birch the van and Birch the man!

After building the last 3 vans for us, we had to name our latest one after owner Dan Birch!

The team has done an amazing job of kitting out this van which will take our customers on loads of great adventures.

A special shout out also goes to who spent many hours crawling around the inside!

We get our newest member of the Trek fleet at the end of the week and to celebrate we're giving away a free weekend trip!

Here's the details:

1️⃣ To enter, guess the name of our new van. For those of you who've been around for a while, you'll know there is a tree theme to our van names.

The 2023 season is underway!

This weekend both Cedar (pictured) and Willow (one of our VW Transporters) have headed out on adventures.

On shift this weekend is me, Elaine and baby Henry!

The weather is really mild, tourist hot spots won't be over-crowded plus you don't need to wake up early to see the sun rise at this time of year.

You have until the end of March to test out van life for 24 hours for just £75. Get in touch to book.

⛷️🚌Winter camping can be amazing. We’ve done it more than a few times, but it’s easy for us as we have a van to use whenever the weather looks good (Yes that photo is me, not a stock one I pinched from the internet!)

We got thinking about how we could make this easy for you too, so we have 2 amazing options (Feb half term dates are included in both offers!)

1️⃣OPTION 1 – 24 hour campervan hire for £75
⭐Collect in the evening and return the following evening.
⭐This option is perfect for a day trip allowing you to hit the road early, or a one night stay somewhere.

2️⃣OPTION 2 – Make us an offer!
⭐If you see we have availability and the weather is looking good, get in touch and make us an offer for a stay of any length.
⭐Please don’t be too cheeky and offend us though!

Both options are available until the end of March 2023. Option 1 has a mileage restriction of 250 miles.

🚐🚐Little and large...which would you choose?

We love both of them for different reasons.

WILLOW (the little one) is perfect if you're a bit nervous about driving a van and fits in a normal car parking space. This makes it easier to find that hidden gem down a tight country lane.

CEDAR (the big one) is more luxurious. Still easy to drive, we love the proper double bed, larger fridge and internal bike storage. It's also tall enough inside to not need a pop top roof and has a comfy seating/lounging area.

Which would you pick for your next adventure?

⚠️WARNING – this is not like our usual upbeat posts.

This what happened to us a few weeks ago which made us feel like giving up. We were (and still are) absolutely heartbroken to lose Aspen to an unexplained fire. We were proud of our latest conversion and addition to the Trek fleet and had hired her out only 3 times before this happened.

We were a bit reluctant to post about this, thinking that people may see it as a failure on our part. However, we take great pride in ensuring the conversions we commission are top notch, safe and stylish! We also know we maintain our vehicles as regularly as we need to.

Thankfully this has given us the peace of mind that it is not something we could have known about or prevented. It will however remain a frustrating mystery as to what happened. We are also thankful that nobody was hurt and the Welsh fire service did a swift job of making things safe.

Our small business that we were growing is going to be limited on capacity for the rest of the season as we wait with fingers crossed for some positive news from our insurers. We would never purchase a pre-converted vehicle for our fleet, so this also means we are also at the mercy of lead times on items for another conversion.

To put a positive spin on a rubbish situation, here’s what we learnt from this experience:

☺️ We have very understanding and rational customers who haven’t made the situation any harder than it needed to be. We really do love our customers.
🔐All of our gas bottles are stored in metal boxes (not everyone does this). Aspen’s gas bottle was untouched by the fire, preventing the bottle exploding. We also have our gas installations checked and signed off annually. Not many rental companies do this or know about it.
😌 Dealing with insurance companies is slow and frustrating, but it is teaching us to have patience!
🚐 We are really glad we didn’t get around to selling Cedar (our Crafter) earlier this year as it means we can put this camper back into our fleet for this summer.

We really hope you will all continue to support us through this slightly more challenging year.

It’s been a pretty tough week at Trek HQ. We may share more about that soon. But for now it left us feeling pretty down and wondering if we should carry on. 😔

As we were pondering these thoughts, we received a really lovely email from someone saying they had a great trip. This was just what we needed to make us realise that we do love this business and making customers happy makes us happy.

We set out on our little business journey to share our love of everything outdoors and exploring. We put lots of energy into making sure this happens for each and every customer, so thought this was an apt time to look back over what people think of what we do. And this has helped put a little smile back on our faces ☺️

😃 We're officially excited about three things this week!!

1. The clocks go back. Yes, you may lose an hour in bed, but you gain so much more. Having time to get outside after work or if you're away in one of our campervans, more time to adventure.

2. It's mother's day. Whether your mum is with you or not it's time to celebrate these special people. If you've hired from us before chances are you've met my mum Elaine. I'm so grateful for her help, especially on busy changeover days.

3. Campsites are reopening for the season. Some do stay open all year round but from April you'll get much more choice over where you can stay and explore.

That's right, only 30 days to go until the clocks go back and the sun will set at 7:30pm. We cannot wait!! Lighter evenings make everything feel so much better, including campervan adventures!

Hiring a campervan when you get more daylight means you get more bang for your buck too. You can enjoy evenings sat around a BBQ or campfire without having to cook by torchlight.
