What would think if you saw this or if you have been to the Isle of Skye did you see this?
The Phantom Car of Skye
The island of Skye is the location for numerous reports of a phantom car that travels at great speed along the hill road from Sligachan. All witnesses agree that the car is a 1934 Austin with lights blazing but no driver. The soundless form vanishes suddenly.
One of the first reports came from Dr Allan MacDonald who saw the 'car' in 1941. 'I was motoring along the road,' he said, 'when I noticed a car travelling very quickly towards me
over the hill. Its Speed really was terrific and I drew in to let it pass but it never came abreast of me. I waited a while, then proceeded forward and found that the car had completely
vanished! There was simply nowhere for it to have gone.'
Donald MacKinnon from Sconser also saw the same car quite clearly and saw it vanish before his eyes; his son Donald John MacKinnon also saw it, travelling far too quickly for a
normal car.
Lieutenant Donald Campbell, of the island's Observer Corps, was driving home to Broadford from Portree when he saw the car' tearing towards him with lights blazing - but it never passed him. It vanished before reaching him: one moment it was there, the next it was gone, although there was nowhere for it to have gone to.
Postman Neil MacDiarmid saw it too. He said at the time:I had been out with mail to Sligachan. There had been a full moon but it had gone down. As I drove along a cold chill
suddenly swept over me. I looked to the shore side and saw an old Austin travelling very fast with one light burning bright at the front and a kind of dim glow inside the car. I could plainly see that there was nobody at the wheel. It tore ahead of me and veered to the right; and then just disappeared.”
