Lovely to see how little things have changed.

A beautiful view of Bodinnick, a picturesque riverside village in south east Cornwall, pictured then and now.

In the 17th century, Bodinnick housed wealthy shipping merchants like the Slade, Salt, and Tadd families, who traded China clay and coal via schooners through local harbours.

Great to see that the paddling pool is almost open again!

Work is coming along nicely down at Whitehouse beach. A little birdie told me that the new cafe will be open in a couple of weeks. The tables are already up. What a fantastic location for a drink, a snack or an ice cream!

It’s official! The RNLI Connecting our Communities Bicentenary Scroll is coming to Fowey on Saturday April 6. Hundreds of communities expressed their interest in hosting the scroll, and we are delighted that Fowey lifeboat station has been chosen as a host location.

The Connecting our Communities is an Olympic Torch style relay event which will see a specially made scroll transported across the UK, as the RNLI marks 200 years of lifesaving.

We’re also commemorating 165 years of Fowey lifeboats this year, so to mark the occasion we will be holding a special Water Safety and Scroll Signing Day on Saturday April 6 from 10am – 3pm at Fowey lifeboat station. We hope as many people as possible can come along to help us witness and celebrate this historic occasion.

During the day, the D class crew will be demonstrating man overboard recovery in Fowey harbour. The coastguard and water safety teams will be giving demonstrations and water safety advice, including talks on cold water shock and how to ‘float to live’. There will be lifejacket maintenance sessions on how to service and check lifejackets, and TMS from Par will be there selling spare parts for lifejackets. For those who want to have safety equipment professionally serviced, TMS will provide a facility for booking in lifejackets and returning them for collection from Fowey Chandlery once serviced. Our all-weather lifeboat will be open for tours and our lifeboat shop will be open all day. There will be music and refreshments and Stormy Stan will be making a special appearance.

A focal point of the day will be the scroll signing ceremony which will take place at 1pm. The day will end at 3pm with the launch of the all-weather lifeboat from the pontoon in Fowey. The signed scroll will be taken onboard the lifeboat to Mevagissey, arriving at 3.30pm. There the scroll will be handed over to representatives from the Mevagissey RNLI shop for a special signing ceremony on the quay.
