Our colleague Inger has visited the Ngorongoro Crater for the first time, which she describes as an unforgettable experience. 😍

Experiencing a safari in the Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania is really something special. After having spent a few days in the dry Serengeti National Park, a completely different landscape opens up to you as you drive down into the Ngorongoro Crater. As the safari car slowly and steadily descends the steep slope of the crater, we are greeted by breathtaking views of an expansive, green and lush plain.

There are many advantages to visiting Costa Rica during the low season. Here are five of them:

🍃Lush landscapes. The scenery is extra lush and green. It’s the perfect time to experience the beauty of the rainforest. The rain brings a renewed energy to the forest, which makes the experience even more magical.

⌚Less busy. Fewer visitors means more space to enjoy the popular attractions and beaches.

🦥The wildlife. The animals are more active in the rainy season, increasing your chances of spotting them.

💚Get closer to the local people and experience the true “Pura Vida” atmosphere. The low season offers you an even better opportunity to experience Costa Rica’s culture and traditions.

💰Save money. Travelling in the low season is cheaper, so you get even more for your money.

No two safaris are the same! 🦁🐘🦒🐃

It’s nature that sets the agenda. So, you never know exactly what you’re going to see or experience. This unpredictability makes every safari a unique adventure.

Here's the answer to the question: “Why can't you see giraffes at the Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania?"🦒

Giraffes don't live in the Ngorongoro Crater primarily because of its steep sides. These steep inclines make it difficult for giraffes to navigate in and out of the crater. The long legs and high centre of gravity make steep and uneven terrain uniquely challenging and difficult for them, increasing the risk of injury.

Instead, the crater is packed with large mammals, like elephants, buffalo, lions, and you can still encounter the black rhino. You can also watch its impressive bird life with over 500 species, including ostriches, flamingos, and vultures. Gnus, zebras, hyenas, and jackals also live in large numbers in the crater. You can also see smaller mammals, e.g., warthogs, baboons, and various antelope species. 💖

Well done Cat! Our colleague Cat climbed Kilimanjaro in March 2024🏔

Read what this adventure has done for Cat:

"Before I was offered the opportunity to climb Kilimanjaro, I had never seen myself as a mountain climber. Enjoying the outdoors and staying active were always part of my life, but the notion of such a significant challenge was daunting, almost terrifying. Overcoming these fears and reaching the summit, however, turned out to be one of the most rewarding experiences I've ever had. The journey taught me a great deal about myself, revealing the beauty and simplicity of the world in a way I had never seen before. It was a transformative experience, and the sense of profound joy I felt at the peak is something I will hold onto forever. My gratitude goes out to Kilimanjaro and TourCompass for this unforgettable adventure."

The aromas of a tour are powerful. 👃🏽 They can instantly transport you back to an experience.

Maybe it’s the smell of freshly brewed coffee in the middle of the African savannah, the scent of sizzling street food in Hanoi or the fresh mountain air on the Inca Trail in Peru. ☕🍜🏔

Which aroma memory stands out most clearly in your mind?

Postcard of water and biodiversity! Our guest Dan Spearman sends a greeting from his kayak in a mangrove forest in Costa Rica🛶.

Mangrove forests are unique ecosystems located along coastlines in tropical and subtropical zones, where salt water meets land. These forests are home to unique trees, adapted to the saline environment, with adventitious roots that stand firm in soft ground and filter salt. Mangrove trees help abate storm surges by slowing down large waves with their many roots, holding onto the soil so it is not washed away, and taking some of the force from the storms so they do less damage.

The trees can also absorb and store large amounts of CO2, which contributes to reducing climate change. Mangrove forests also foster abundant wildlife and are breeding grounds for many marine species. 🌱

Today is Panda Day! 🐼🎉 It's a day to honor one of the world's most beloved animals, the panda. Pandas are famous for their distinctive black and white markings, cuddly appearance, and playful personalities, making them a favourite among people of all ages.

Here are 6 fun facts about pandas that you may not have known:
🐼 Pandas can eat up to 40 kg of bamboo shoots per day. That's about the same as eating 250 apples in one day.
🐼 Pandas have a funny habit of sitting upright to eat. It's a position that's not very comfortable for most animals but is ideal for pandas due to their “false thumb”.
🐼 Although they look soft and fluffy, pandas actually have very thick and coarse fur, which protects them from the cold Chinese winter.
🐼 Pandas are excellent swimmers and can even use swimming as a way to avoid dangers in the wild.
🐼 Pandas are black and white for a reason - their black fur helps them absorb heat from the sun, while their white fur helps them blend in with the snow.
🐼 Pandas have a special place in Chinese culture and are often seen as a symbol of peace and harmony.

While pandas are still considered a vulnerable species, their population has increased in recent years thanks to conservation efforts. Today, there are around 1,800 pandas living in the wild, and conservation organisations are working hard to protect their habitat and ensure their continued survival.

"An underground paradise! 🤿
Christina and Nadia, our product managers for Latin America, have visited some subterranean treasures in Yucatán, Mexico.

"It’s nothing short of magical to see the sun’s rays penetrating the opening of a cenote falling from a cloudless sky.

The rays illuminate the azure and turquoise colours of the water, which stand in stark contrast to the darkness of the cave and the green plants growing down the sides.

We’re completely blown away by Mexico’s beautiful cenotes!

The beautiful, natural freshwater holes are found all over the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico, but offer very different experiences and impressions. However, all of them are much-needed oases in the Mexican heat, where you can enjoy a refreshing dip".
