✨ The red-billed chough is soaring back to the Kent Downs National Landscape! ✨

Last week saw a second release of these striking birds by Kent Wildlife Trust, bringing the total to 19 choughs now reintroduced to Dover. This marks an incredible comeback after a 200-year absence! 🖤

These charismatic birds are thriving in restored chalk grasslands, thanks to decades of dedicated conservation efforts. With plans to release up to 50 choughs by 2028, this transformative project is revitalising Kent's wildlife and natural heritage. 🌱

This season’s release saw 12 more choughs take to the skies—six crèche-reared females from Wildwood Kent and six males from Paradise Park. They join last year’s flock, already gracing the skies around Dover.

Let’s celebrate this monumental step forward for conservation in the Kent Downs! 🌍🦅

The chough reintroduction project was supported by the Kent Downs National Landscape through Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra)'s Farming in Protected Landscapes programme, which helps fund projects in the farmed landscape under the themes of climate, nature, people and place.
