⛵️ A true legend in sailing, Sir Robin Knox-Johnston made history as the first person to sail solo and nonstop around the world in 1969, completing the Golden Globe Race in 312 days.

Known for his resilience and passion, Sir Robin’s career didn’t stop there. He co-founded the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race in 1996 to inspire others to take on the challenges of ocean racing, giving amateur sailors a chance to experience the thrill of global competition.

At 67, he became the oldest competitor in the 2006-07 Velux 5 Oceans Race, proving that age is no barrier.

Sir Robin’s influence extends beyond records and races—he’s a powerful advocate for maritime safety and training, and he continues to encourage sailors to pursue their dreams.

What a true inspiration to all of us at sea! 🌍⚓️

👉 In this new series, we're going to be featuring the sailors who have most inspired us to take to the water, and reshare some of the amazing stories of courage and resilience that have emerged from the world of sailing.

What sailor inspires you?

🌊 Winter around Plymouth’s waterways is a fantastic time to observe local wildlife!

Keep an eye out for migratory birds like curlews and oystercatchers as they make their seasonal stopovers along the estuaries and marshlands. Seals are also occasionally spotted along the coast, and you might even catch a glimpse of them playing in the waters near Cattewater. Even dolphins have been spotted in and around the harbour during the winter months.

Bundle up, bring your binoculars, and enjoy nature’s winter display from the comfort of King Point Marina. 🐦

🌊 Discover the journey of the River Plym - the river that gives Plymouth it's name!

Flowing from the upland marshes of Dartmoor to the bustling waters of Cattewater, the River Plym’s 20-mile journey offers both beauty and history.

Passing by old clay workings, through Plymbridge Woods, and along the edge of Plymouth, it eventually joins the sea at Plymouth Sound.

The lower estuary, known as Cattewater, provides a navigable route that serves as an essential part of Plymouth’s maritime activities.

It’s the perfect waterway to explore when setting off from King Point Marina! 🌊
