Some years ago, I bought a DVD player from a huge well-known electrical retailer.
Within a couple of days, it had stopped working. I returned to the store to ask for a replacement but they wanted to send it away to be repaired. Obviously, I argued that I did not want a brand new DVD player to be repaired, I needed a new one but they were insistent that it was their policy. As I wanted a different model that was more money, I stood my ground and eventually, they agreed. However, based on that experience, regardless of the price, I will never buy from them again. All of my future purchases have been made through stores that I know I will not have an issue with if anything goes wrong.
This experience made me think about the way people buy their holidays.
There are thousands of holiday sites on the internet, all offering very attractive prices and deals worldwide. But I cannot tell you the amount of problems people have encountered with holidays booked with little-known (and some more well-known) holiday companies. Every week, one of these firms fails and nothing is said about it because they are usually hidden behind a bigger brand as a third party. There are so many legalities and loop holes that most people would not know about unless you had years of experience in the travel industry.
Some years ago, a large operator went into administration, as they were Atol-protected, people presumed they would get their money back. This operator used a third-party site for their hotels and there was a loophole that did not cover 3rd party sites. So people got refunded for their flights but lost the money on the accommodation. The same thing with paying with a credit card...yes it will get you a refund, but it won't find you another holiday, nor will it get you home if you are stranded abroad.
As a company, we have access to a very large selection of hoteliers, airlines, and tour operators. These companies are vetted by our senior management and commercial team before we sell them to our customers. They have to be financially sound and hotels have to meet UK health and safety standards.
If a company is looking like a high risk to us, we will stop selling them. So if you find something on the internet that we cannot sell, there is usually a very good reason for it.
The internet has its place for research and getting ideas, but it really is no substitute for a human.
Most of my customers are people who have booked with me for many years and I consider them friends. I purely work on recommendation so it is a huge compliment to me when I get a call from a new customer saying that I have been recommended to them.
Next time, you are tempted by an internet holiday, please pick up the phone to me first. You cannot put a price on “Peace of Mind “ and that is one thing that I can give you 100%.

Our Story

I have worked in the travel industry for over 40 years. Most of those years have been spent in High Street retail branches, starting out as an office junior and working my way up to shop manager. I also spent 2 years as cabin crew but decided that I wanted to get my feet back firmly on the ground and returned to retail travel agencies. Many of my years have been spent with Midcounties Co-operative Travel and my present role as a Personal Travel Agent is by far the best role I have had. I now have the time and flexibility to be able to dedicate my complete attention to finding you the perfect holiday without the normal distractions of a branch or call centre. We work hard for our holidays and I never forget that I am dealing with someone else's dreams, so I want to get it right for you. After so many years in the travel industry, I have gained a wealth of knowledge, not only with destinations but with choosing what is best for my clients. Many of my customers, have become my friends, they know they can rely on me and a repeat customer is the best compliment that can be given.
