An amazing place.

Spinalonga. Venetian from 1579- 1715. During the Cretan revolt of 1878, only Spinalonga and the fortress at Ierapetra were not taken by the Christian Cretan insurgents.In 1881 the 1,112 Ottomans formed their own community. In 1903, the last Turks left the island.
The island was used as a l***r colony from 1903 to 1957. The last inhabitant, a priest, did not leave the island till 1962, in order to maintain the Greek Orthodox tradition of commemorating a buried person 40 days, 6 months, 1 year, 3 years, and 5 years after their death.

We have had a wonderful week at the villa. It is beautiful. It suited us all, 93, 83, 18 and myself. Perfect choice. The pool is amazing. A week was always going to be a short holiday! But it was better than no holiday! We’ve all loved it.

Villa May, Plaka. July 2023

We stayed at Villa May as a couple in July 2023 and can honestly say this was our most enjoyable holiday to date. We spent two glorious weeks in this lovely Villa which truly feels like a home away from home. We had such a lovely time that we have booked for next year.
We booked direct with the owners Niall & Karen and received prompt and detailed information regarding our booking. Any questions we had prior to arrival were answered quickly and it was very reassuring to chat on the telephone with Niall during the booking process as well. We were emailed a welcome pack which explained in detail how to get to the villa from Heraklion Airport. Our flight times were changed by the company after booking but this wasn’t a problem for Niall who kindly allowed us to keep the Villa on until later in the afternoon.
The villa is looked after by Mandy, who welcomed us to Villa May following a late night flight, we arrived at approximately 1am and were given a full tour of the accommodation. Mandy was extremely helpful and kept in touch with us both prior to arrival and during our stay if we had any queries and she kindly offered to arrange a welcome pack for us on arrival. The home is very well equipped and immaculate. The pool and outside area was also immaculate and the pool was cleaned regularly by Panagiotis who discreetly announced his arrival prior to coming to the pool area.
The location is perfect, with wonderful views of Spinalonga and the mountains. It is extremely quiet and private which we absolutely loved. It is within walking distance to Plaka where there are many lovely restaurants. There is a bus stop in Plaka for anyone wishing to visit any other areas.
The three cats Granny, Hera and Apollo were no bother at all. They are clean and friendly, but as with most cats, they like their independence! We only really saw them when they were hungry and we quickly established they like fine dining in the form of Whiskas!

Between the beginning of June and the end of September 2024 we now just have 21-28 July available.

We still have availability for the first two weeks in May and the first two weeks in October. Plaka is beautiful in Spring and Autumn.
