Easter is often the busiest few days for Mountain Rescue teams. Please help take the strain around Eryri by being as self sufficient as you can be.

If you're looking to turn a good day into a great one, you can ask for a qualified guide for your route, or book a training day.

Heading into the mountains this Easter weekend?

There are great navigation tools out there, download Ordnance Survey app before you go.

Carry a spare battery to keep your phone charged.

Always have spare layers. The summit could be 10°C colder so those shorts will seem like a baaad idea.

AdventureSmart has put together a hill-walking kit list: https://www.adventuresmart.uk/hill-walking-kit-list/

Check the weather before you go and know what’s coming later.

Know how to call for help: 999, ask for the Police, then Mountain Rescue

The summit of Snowdon /Yr Wyddfa has a cafe, which will open soon, weather permitting. It's not often open this early.

If you're planning a trip up, our advice to our giests is please understand that:

The summit is a lot colder than the Valley

The cafe may not be open every day after 18th.

The train does not provide a single ticket for a ride down

You can turn a good day into a great day by booking a qualified mountain leader to act as guide, take you off the beaten path and tell you lots about the mountain & the local area.

Exciting news! Hafod Eryri to reopen early! 🤩

We are thrilled to announce that due to the recent beautiful weather, the summit building, Hafod Eryri, will be opening earlier than planned. As a result, all trains traveling on and after April 18th will now be able to reach the summit, weather permitting.

If you have already purchased tickets in advance, please check your email for an update. We look forward to welcoming you to the summit soon.

Car parking for Snowdon / Yr Wyddfa.
From Criccieth you also have good options for parking at Nantgwynnant (Watkin path), the Snowdon Ranger (Ranger path) and Rhyd Ddu.
The problem with all parking areas is over demand, so finding a place can be a challenge.
If you go early or late, do please remember the summit temperature in April is likely below zero over night.

Let the train take the strain.
There's a mountain railway up Yr Wyddfa / Snowdon from the village of Llanberis.
Top tips:
1. Book!
2. You can ride up and choose to walk down, but remember you are committed to walk a fair distance down hill.
3. Take clothes to stay warm - it will be cooler (by at least 7 degrees) and windier on the summit.
Have fun!

A great museum experience at Llandudno, which is definitely worth a visit on the 80th anniversary of the end of WW2.

The museum re-opens this Monday after the winter break - the 25th anniversary year (can not believe where the time has gone!).
It has been a busy time since closing back in October with Remembrance, Faces of the Fallen and the Poppy Appeal in November and trips to Serbia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Singapore to pay respects to a further eight Llandudno men killed during the Second World War. This brings the total visited so far to 292 out of 330.
Book number five – ‘Quirky Llandudno’ - is all but finished and will be published next year. Copies of ‘Llandudno’s Military Heritage’ and ‘Conwy’s Military Heritage’ are still available from the museum. Given numerous talks to local societies as well as further afield in exotic locations including Chester, Rhyl, Prestatyn, Criccieth and Holywell 😊.

I have added many new and fascinating items to the collection and although the museum is small in area, there are thousands of items on display. While museum professionals claim the public want less exhibits and more audio-visual wizardry, the feedback I get is that people want to see artefacts and to read about the stories behind them. Remember the Home Front Museum is entirely self-funded having received NO grants or financial assistance since opening 25 years ago.

It promises to be another busy year particularly with the 80th anniversary of VE-Day in May and VJ Day in August. It is also the 85th anniversary of the Wormhout massacre and the retreat to Dunkirk and I am looking forward to giving a very special talk about this subject that is very close to my heart in May. I am also working on another project to perpetually honour eleven local servicemen who died in the Second World War and will give more details next month.

Mostly though I am looking forward to welcoming back visitors both old and new. The museum is open daily Monday to Saturday and on Sundays during school holidays.

Do you fancy doing something a little different during your stay at Tyddyn Morthwyl. We recently went to this talk about walking and packrafting at Plas y Brenin.
What a great adventure Marianne talked about!

There's some fantastic art around north Wales. It's always worthwhile finding out what's going on.
Visual & muscial art in Betws Y Coed attracted some real interest last week.
We wonder what's on next week.

Llanberis is a great place to visit, as described below. There's also the slate quarries (stay on paths please) and the quarry hospital.

It's about 35 minutes drive from Tyddyn Morthwyl, although you might need to allow more time for traffic at busier times.

As a rural holiday let, with an interest in the Outdoors, we are strong supporters of our local Aberglaslyn Mountain Rescue Team and Search and Rescue Dog Association SARDA Wales both of which are key members of Mountain Rescue England and Wales. Every woman & man is a volunteer - on call 24/7. It's more than mountains - it's rural areas too. In the last year there were 2 callouts close to the house.

Please consider putting a few quid in the collection box that's in the house. If a pound is donated every day the house is booked, we'd raise nearly £200.

The latest news from our volunteer teams is in the magazine. This is sold for over £5, but it's a freebie here. Wise words, given the forecast snow & cold.
If you'd like to find out how to operate a map & compass, then book why not a session with a Mountain Leader?

Aberglaslyn Mountain Rescue Team recently attended an incident at Prenteg. The road is flooded.
