Since training as a blacksmith & welder, Alex Hume has developed a broad range of traditional skills and knowledge that compliment those of Arc Fab Sussex

Hume Heritage Restoration is a small enthusiastic company based in Sussex that specialize in the repair and restoration of traction engines, rollers, portable engines and models. Previous commissions have been for private individuals and collections including Tinkers Park at Hadlow Down and the Amberley Chalk Pits Museum. We have a full machine shop and can produce one off and small batches of nut

s and bolts plus the manufacturing of motion parts, shafts and gears. We can turn up to 48 inch in diameter and 8 foot lengths. Hume Heritage also builds replica replacement tenders and belly tanks and can repair or rebuild steam engine boilers. The Riveted Narrowboat Company, Arc Fab Sussex and Hume Heritage share the same exceptional qualities of craftsmanship with a professional and friendly service. We are based in East Sussex but work nationwide and more recently as far a field as Katmandu and Addis Ababa! The focus of each business is quite specialized but at the core are very similar tools, techniques and experience of working with metal.

You’ll need to be keen, enthusiastic and a genuine team player. You’ll also require a full driving licence.

Experienced Welder and Fabricator
We are Ex*****on Class 2 and we need a coded Welder to work on structural steel projects.

Experienced Architectural Metal Worker
We’re seeking an experienced Metal Worker to work on balustrades, staircases, balconies, gates and so on.

Material Preparation and Painter
Your duties will include plate making, loading, unloading, cutting beams for the welding team and prepping and painting beams after fabrication.
Estimator

We’ll be recruiting an Estimator early in January 2019.
Arc Fab needs great people to start in January 2019, so don’t delay

Lawrence Wise has just joined the team at Arc Fab and his core duties will be to work alongside Alex on the restoration side and learn and develop as a key member of the team. Alex and Fred are making great progress on this boiler. We have spent this year moving workshops about and now we are almost complete! We have a new large fabrication workshop, a paint shop and now Alex has his own restoration workshop. Moving forward we will be able to concentrate on a lot more old school engineering projects.

Its been such a manic year we have barely had to time to post to Facebook etc but rest assured we are all working hard. Alex is just building up the plate thickness in localised areas where it has perished...more pictures to follow
