Our Story

Rowen Barbary Horse Feeds was first started in 1980 from the family farm in the Shropshire countryside.

The name - Rowen Barbary Horse Feeds - was created to represent something loosely connected to the equine industry; the roan in Rowen being a colour, Barbary a native breed of horse in North Africa related to the Arabian and Roan Barbary, a horse belonging to Richard II.

Today Rowen Barbary is still a family run business, but now operates out of a new, state of the art mill in the village of Prees.

Rowen Barbary were the first British manufacture to design and launch a complete range of soaking feeds. Launched in 2004 as the Soft 'n' Soak Range; ReadyFibre Mash, ReadyMash and ReadyMash Extra were the original range of soaking feeds designed to be fed as a soft textured mash. Providing a source of highly digestible fibre they have proved extremely popular with horses of all ages and activity levels.
