We finally managed to get to Milestone Barn! Decorated for Christmas and took delivery of a three seater sofa, so Gracie (and your woofs) can snuggle up with us/you. We have had just the best time.

EDIT: Thank you so much for all your offers of help, we really appreciate all of your support. Our volunteering spaces are now filled for Wednesday & Thursday, but if you would like to volunteer from Friday onwards please send an email with which dates and times you would like to come.

We have a lot of new dogs due to arrive this week and are looking for committed, caring people who may be able to volunteer a day of their time this Wednesday or Thursday to help the dogs.

We have specific roles that we are in desperate need of volunteers for and are looking for people who are over 18 and can:

Clean the vans (2 people) - these will be very dirty after transporting the dogs back to the rescue so will need a deep clean on the insides and people who aren't afraid to get their hands dirty.

Bath the new arrivals (2 people) - there will be no trimming or grooming involved, but you would need to be comfortable with handling and bathing very scared ex-breeding dogs.

Socialising puppies (4 people) - this includes the fun task of sitting with and socialising puppies but will also include A LOT of cleaning the kennels after them and supervised feeding.

If you can help at all, please email [email protected] with which day you are available (Weds or Thurs), which role/s you are interested in and if you are able to volunteer from either 9-5 or a half day of either 9-1 or 1-5.

Please use the viewing areas, the sight is amazing without disturbance

As grey seal pups start to be born on Horsey and Winterton, we have this tip that will help more of them to survive. It is important because up to 60% of the seals born this season will not survive into adulthood. The most important thing is not to walk on the beach at all, during the breeding season. The reason is simple. A mother seal sees us and our dogs as preditors. If we scare cow seals away from their young by our presence, there is a very real risk that she will abandon her pup leaving it to starve. And people on the beach at this time of year can spook many of the new mums by walking among them. So please help us to help them by enjoying this wonderful sight from the designated viewing areas at the top of the sand dunes. Photo by Sue Wright taken with a long lens.

Have you sorted your New Year's hols? No, Milestone is newly available! Feast your eyes on the wood burner, think about the cosy underfloor heating and peaceful location. Imagine the beach at Horsey heaving with seals and pups. Tickle your taste buds thinking of the many wonderful eating places and picture your dogs in the mature woods and on the deserted beaches.

Horsey seals need protection

Seal pups are at risk of being abandoned by their mothers as a result of disturbance. Even if you don’t touch them, just your presence can cause enough of a threat to the mother that she’ll leave the pup to fend for itself. If you see a seal mother and pup on the beach, it’s SUPER important to keep your distance and leave them be.

Please also remember:

🐾 Keep all dog’s on leads

🍽 Do NOT attempt to feed wild seals
