Greenwings Wildlife Tours Greenwings offer expertly led wildlife holidays worldwide since 2010. We hope to see you on one of our adventures soon! Welcome to Greenwings!

We specialise in butterflies & botany, but also offer plenty of other wildlife & photography based tours. It is our aim to take you to some of the most beautiful and wildlife rich places around the world. Our company was born from a love of the natural world and a desire to not only enjoy it but to respect and conserve it. Therefore, we want to do much more than merely visit, we want to invest in

the conservation of the habitats and the species that make them special, hence our motto "observe to conserve". We are proud to promise that from every trip we organise some of the profits will be donated to a conservation charity. Wherever possible the money will go towards supporting local projects in the places that we visit. Otherwise we will donate to a relevant wildlife charity.

During the weekend we were saddened to learn that Tristan Lafranchis has passed away and our sincere condolences go out to his family & friends.

Tristan was an exceptional lepidopterist, naturalist, and tour leader. In the early years he believed in us and helped Greenwings to take flight - we will always be grateful to him for that.

His tours with us were extremely popular, thanks to the enthusiasm & generosity that he had to share his love & knowledge of nature with everyone.

He always said his favourite butterfly was Cleopatra, so we’d like to share one photographed by a Greenwings guest during Tristan’s first tour with us in Greece in 2013.

His legacy will live on, not least in the numerous books he published on lepidoptera & botany.

Here's a beautiful Morpho deidamia from Peru. But also a 'behind the scenes' image too, for a glimpse of what goes into making the images & what goes on during our tours.

We think it's all good fun & our good sport guests do too. On this tour they notched up an amazing 593 butterfly species!

Both photos courtesy of guest Jim.

We've got 2 more Peru butterfly tours coming up, in 2025 & 2026. More info can be found on our website:

"Which came first? The butterfly or the egg?"

Life cycle images of the British Swallowtail (Papilio machaon ssp. britannicus.

The LHP (Larval Host Plant) for this endemic subspecies in the UK is the wetland plant, Milk Parsley (Peucedanum palustre). That is the reason for the butterflies limited distribution, and why it is only currently resident in the Norfolk Broads.

Read more about the ecology of the subspecies here:

https://www.sbbt.org.uk/what-are-swallowtails-birdwings/british-swallowtail/

We often find up to 3 life stages on our Norfolk Broads trips, led by writer & naturalist Patrick Barkham.

We this Sunday morning with a Skipper (Agara pardalina) from Peru. Our last tour group there saw a whopping 582 butterfly species, of which a good number were from the Hesperiidae family.

Did you know that worldwide, approximately 3,500 of the 18,000 known species of butterfly belong to this family.

Our next trips to Peru are May/June 2025 and September 2026. More info can be found on our website.

The checklist from our butterfly tour in Peru late last year is still being worked on. Today it reached a superb 550 species!

If you consider that the entire European continent has just below 500 species, then you get some idea of the amazing diversity & abundance of butterflies in Peru & other South American countries.

We have another Peru tour scheduled for 2025. Find out more & sign up here...

Good morning!

Time for & to tell you about one of our tried & trusted tours, with a new twist!

We've refreshed our 'Autumn Flowers of Southern Greece & The Peloponnese' tour to make it a longer, 11 day, slower-paced & comprehensive exploration, which will cover new areas for more plants.

We believe it is the finest Peloponnese tour you'll find for 2025! Why?

1. Led by locals. Our expert Greek naturalist leader (Sotiris Alexiou) Σωτήρης Αλεξίου, originates from the area and lives full time in Greece. He knows his homeland intimately & has up to date local knowledge so we can find the target species & easily adapt to local seasonal conditions. He also loves sharing the rich nature & heritage of Greece with our guests.

2. Longer. Our tour is 11 days, instead of the more common 8 day tours. That's so we can show you things that no one else does. And, so we can give you more 'bulbs per buck' as it were - more species of Crocus, Colchicum etc. You'll also enjoy the gentle pace with plenty of rich culture & history included.

3. Low price. With our 'early bird' offer you can save £150 per person on this trip. And as a proud Botanical Society of Britain & Ireland their members can also get an extra £50 off per person.

That's a £200 saving if you book this trip before Christmas!

On top of that, we give a 5% reduction to all our previous customers as well.

Too many cat pics on the internet? 🐈‍⬛

We’re not ashamed to share some, when the cat in question is a stunning Iberian Lynx that is! We hope you enjoy these, just sent back to us by our guide in Spain.

He reports that it’s a good season for observations with plenty of both predator & prey (rabbits) this year. We’ve got a great tour you can join, if you act soon! A Christmas present for yourself or a loved one maybe?

Dates are 15th - 19th Jan 2025. Visit our website for info & to book:
