In March 25, we're offering our last tour of India which will include Holi - the festival of colour and light - as well as a night's camping in the desert.

You’ll travel along the Silk route, explore the citadel town of Jaisalmer, stay in the city of lakes: Udaipur, and see the Exotic Marigold hotel used for the movies. The trip also visits the ancient town of Pushkar, a journey by train to Jaipur, and the Taj Mahal. You’ll stay in some classic Rajput accommodation too.

Tour of Rajasthan, and today the group venture to the silk road to see what's left of the once opulence where merchants, who sold anything from o***m to silks, once lived. The group will actually stay in what was a trader's mansion house known as a haveli....

While most of Shekhawati’s havelis have crumbled and remain abandoned, a small window into the world of these painted mansions is being preserved.

We’d like to tell you about our 16-day tour to Rajasthan to take place in March, 2025. It will include Holi – the spectacular festival of colour and light and, like all our tours, is competitively priced.

From Delhi, we'll travel the Silk route to ride camels and camp in the desert. We'll move towards the border with Pakistan to stay near the magical citadel of Jaisalmer. We’ll see the biblical 'blue' city of Jodhpur, spend time in the beautiful lake town of Udaipur and visit the Exotic Marigold hotel used for the movies. The trip also takes us to the ancient pilgrimage town of Pushkar, as well as by train to Jaipur – the best place to experience Holi! You’ll also visit the Taj Mahal.

Many of you have travelled with us before and know we provide a much more authentic style of travel. They’ll be some free time to explore – and a lot of fun too. We always have a good mix of single and couple travellers and create a friendly atmosphere.

You’ll stay in some classic accommodation, from old silk trader’s havelis (mansions), to heritage hotels. Dine in spectacular surroundings and see ways of life well beyond tourism – please don’t expect a typical sightseeing tour!

Along the way we’ll travel by private bus, train, the occasional rickshaw, camel and other unusual transport. There’ll be a few surprises along the way too! The trip is led by the BBC's Steve Carver.

This trip is suitable for all ages with just an average fitness required.

Our India tour: and on leaving Delhi for the Silk Road, our first stop is Mandawa, a little known town yet an important Silk Road landmark.
We take our travellers to stay in a two-hundred and fifty year old Haveli (pictured). It might not be modern, but it is authentic and was the home of wealthy ancient traders.

India; and those in our private group coming with us this October, or our public one next March, might like to listen to this BBC Worldservice programme presented by your host Steve Carver, on the plight of vultures facing extinction.

This fascinating programme tells the story of India's 'sky burials' and investigates why 'natures undertakers' are facing extinction. The programme resulted in government help to protect the species who now, at last, are on the increase again.

Steve travels from the high Himalaya to the south of India in his investigation as to why there has been a sharp decline in vultures.
