India, and in just 64 days, our travellers will be heading into the sunshine on a thrilling trip into the Rajasthan desert.

They'll stay in old trader's houses and palaces as they travel along the silk road. Ride camels and camp overnight in the desert and see the magical citadel of Jaisalmer on the border with Pakistan. They'll move south: to the biblical 'blue city' of Jodhpur, and on to the white 'city of lakes' in Udaipur, as well as the Exotic Marigold hotel used for the movies.

Next it's north and to the pilgrimage town of Pushkar that hasn't changed for hundreds of years, before heading by train to the 'pink city of Jaipur to enjoy the colourful spectacle of 'Holi. After this, it's to Agra and the Taj Mahal, before home.

and those coming with us next March (we've 4 places remaining) might like to read this article from The Times, where your host Steve Carver spent Covid lockdown in an Indian palace living with a Maharaja.

The Maharaja became a close friend but sadly passed away this week. He and his family hosted our Exotic Marigold Hotel experience, where each year retired hopefuls from the UK would live in his palace to see what retirement in India would bring. Steve remains a close friend to the family, and we all offer our deepest sympathies to the Bissau Palace. He was a wonderful, fascinating and kind-hearted man.

Vultures - referred to as Asia's 'natural undertakers' - saw an unprecedented decline almost to extinction, but as a result of the programme the numbers are now increasing.

Tour of Rajasthan, and today the group venture to the silk road to see what's left of the once opulence where merchants, who sold anything from o***m to silks, once lived. The group will actually stay in what was a trader's mansion house known as a haveli....

While most of Shekhawati’s havelis have crumbled and remain abandoned, a small window into the world of these painted mansions is being preserved.
