Speaking of secrets, you may have seen in the news recently that for £1.8m Scotland bought a box. Obviously, it's not any old shoe box - first it's made of pure silver, and most importantly, in 1568 the Earl of Moray (Mary Queen of Scots' brother) produced this very silvery casket, as proof that Mary Stuart plotted to kill her second husband. Because of the letters hidden in it, the Queen would have to run away and would ultimately be beheaded. Now, were the letters real, or were they a ploy by a jealous half brother, an illegitimate child aiming for his sister's throne..? Join the tour to find out 😉🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿!

? Rejoignez la visite pour le découvrir ;) !🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

🇬🇧 Let's explore a new place! Like Edinburgh this place is considered to be one of the most haunted in the UK and has a very famous street : The Shambles! For many fans, this (very touristy) place would have inspired the film crew to create Diagon Alley! The Shambles is one of England's best-preserved quirky & medieval shopping streets. To find it, head to York, capital of the white rose!

Does this remind you of a street in Edinburgh? 😉

In a large pot, brown some onions with a bit of butter, then add about 2 large potatoes, diced. Simmer with some water for about 15mn until they're cooked through.
But a true cook never rests! 😉 So, in a separate pan, add smoked haddock & milk in equal-ish ratios (if you want 250g of haddock, add 250ml of milk), cook both until the haddock gets a bit more tender (around 5-10mn max). Take out the fish bones from the haddock and flake it before mixing all the ingredients, milk included, together. You now have a cullen skink! Enjoy with some bread 🍞 😋 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

KATHY & STELLA SOLVE A MURDER!

You know when you see a film or read a book or hear a song, and you finish it with the nagging sense that in years to come you'll be saying "I was there first"? That's precisely how we felt at the end of .

We saw the final performance at , playing to a sell-out crowd. This is a musical about a true-crime podcast run by two best friends in Hull and their adventures when a real-life murder happens on their doorstep, and it's very, very good.

The cast are absolutely phenomenal, as are the musicians, and throughout its runtime you'll hum the songs, try to solve the mysteries as they unfold, laugh, gasp, and maybe shed a tear.

High-quality entertainment like this shouldn't go ignored, and seeing as it's about to go on tour it is clear that, thankfully, this hasn't been. See you next murder? You bet.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Busy day today! But one last recommendation for the road (perfect for non English speakers as well!)

THE BLACK BLUES BROTHERS

The description 'breathtaking' is overused, but I'm struggling to think of another word here. Something of a recent staple of , is an incredible acrobatic showcase with a killer soundtrack.

From balancing acts that have the crowd cheering, to rolls and flips that made people gasp, the show is a non-stop rollercoaster of stunning acts of athleticism. It received a standing ovation at the end when we saw it today, and frankly even that felt like it wasn't enough appreciation.

Funny, feelgood and jaw-droppingly impressive, you can see why this show sells out performance after performance at the Festival Fringe every year: it's great stuff that's more than worthy of the hype.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 A couple of unexpected discoveries here!

STRING V SPITTA (not for kids!)

When you've hundreds upon hundreds of shows vying for attention at the Festival Fringe, it takes something truly special to stand out from the crowd and make people say "You really should go and see _this_ one": String V SPITTA is that show.

Starring and , String V SPITTA tells the story of two rival children's entertainers who join forces to wow the crowds at a Russian oligarch's child's birthday party. Cue music, magic, audience participation, rivalry and utter fun.

By the end, I don't think there was anyone in the room not cheering and laughing, and you left knowing precisely why this is the show everyone is talking about. Superb.
We ended up watching the new season of for more Kiell content !

ADELE CLIFF CAN BREAK YOUR ARM

graces the Festival Fringe again with a pun-filled story full of observational humour, thwarted New Year's Resolutions, and opinions on birds.

Laugh-out-loud funny at times, Cliff possess an ease on stage other performers would pay for, and is always better for having her there. Another fun show from a performer working hard enough to make it look easy. Impressive stuff.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 For our fellow and here is a very carefully crafted show

SAVE THE PRINCESS

An interactive game taking its cues from iconography, with Princess Plum trying to escape from a turtle-ish nemesis? Or a play with more depth than expected musing on destiny, consequences and fate? This is both, and more besides.

arrive for the first time at the Festival Fringe with a truly interesting show. The audience use their mobile phones to decide Princess Plum's fate, making choices such as "hide or run?" or "join a gang or go solo?" which go on to impact the story being told.

The sheer weight of script which all the actors must have learned to pull this off is impressive, and the interactive element went off without a hitch when going to see the show.

A very clever technological idea executed perfectly, you only wonder what will come next. A choose-your-own-adventure spectacular handled with deft skill, this was an impressive debut.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Another lovely week-end at the ! It's such a shame that the is nearly over!

LOCOMOTIVE FOR MURDER: THE IMPROVISED WHODUNNIT

In a sea of improvised shows, and indeed specifically improvised detective shows, it takes something very special to stand out from the crowd. It's to the credit of that they've been able to do just that.

There is some inspired and clever audience interaction with this show, guaranteeing a genuinely improvised experience each time. The actors are all excellent, and the show is arranged so that by the end there is no guarantee the murderer will be unmasked: it's up to the audience to guess correctly and the actors to plant enough clues without being too obvious.

This show was an absolute blast, and I dearly hope they return to the again next year.

PIRATES: YOU WOULDN'T STEAL A BOAT (unfortunately this was their last show this year but keep your eyes peeled for next year!)

Piratical nonsense runs free in this play, one of the silliest and most enjoyable I've seen all Fringe.

The premise is simple: two wannabe pirates are thrown overboard by their captain, but rather than give up the ambitious Sharkbait Mulligan decides he's going to be the captain of his very own treasure-hunting crew.

The play has a proper "end of term" feel, which is daft and endearing. From start to finish, the audience was laughing and cheering, and getting on board with the party atmosphere.

Take one pinch of Pirates of the Caribbean, a teaspoon of dancing, and half a dozen pieces of eight, and you've a highly enjoyable hour at in the company of .

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Just had a very fun night at the with fellow nerds !

TARTAN TABLETOP

There's a solid idea behind this. Want to encourage a repeat visit to your show? Then why not play a live, continual game of Dungeons and Dragons across the , one episode per show?

It's a lot of fun and makes you feel like you are dipping into the middle of an epic adventure, this one being a cross between The Borrowers and Lord of the Rings, but absolutely not like either of them, for copyright reasons (ahem).

Performed with enthusiasm, each show has a guest cast member which only adds to a sense of slight chaos and spontaneity.

An old-school game and a novel approach combine to good effect and make one to watch.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 New review, under a heavy rain today at the ! We've now passed the 18th show viewed mark 🤯🥰🍻

STEWART LEE: BASIC LEE

If you've seen Stewart Lee before, you'll know precisely what you're getting. If you haven't, you've been missing out.

With his trademark humour, breaking down comedy as he tells it, there really is no comedian like Lee and he's honed his act to a fine craft now. Despite the conceit in the show's title, there is nothing basic about his performance and sell-out crowds would suggest that audiences recognise this, and he's going nowhere any time soon.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 It's the weekend, and our nrw Reviews are coming in! Which show did you go to yourself?

TOM CROSBIE: ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN NERDS

Tom Crosbie graces once again, and as always he seems to be able to do anything but disappoint.

From his astonishing feats of memory to his skills with a Rubik's Cube (which wowed me just as much this time around as when I first saw him in 2019), is as welcoming and inclusive a host as you could want and I could easily have sat through another hour of his showmanship.

ABBEY'S BOX

What do you get if instead of solving a problem like Maria, we embrace Maria and everything she stands for? The answer can be found in Abbey's Box, and it's wonderful.

An ultimately life-affirming story about learning to be yourself through life's ups and downs, has created something truly special that speaks to those of us who don't always fit inside society's boxes. She's an energetic performer, physically throwing her all into the show.

Funny, celebratory and quietly moving and profound, Abbey's Box deserves attention and hopefully the crowds will give it just that.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Today à review of the latest show of one of my favourite comedian ever :

DANIEL FOXX: VILLAIN

Star of online skits debuts his one-man show at , mixing autobiography with pop cultural observation, music and eye-liner. An emotional and humorous story about growing up q***r in the 90s in England and learning how to be happy in your own skin, it's a celebration in being yourself with songs that are guaranteed to be earworms. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community myself this really resonated.

A confident performance and an enthralled audience made this one to remember. I'll never look at Voldemort in the same way though.

Another review coming as well :

BRIDGET CHRISTIE: WHO AM I?

Performing to a sell-out audience this afternoon, .christie.14 was on top form in her show about the menopause, Feminism, double-standards, adulthood, womanhood and more.

Some superb storytelling and a lot of laugh-out-loud jokes makes this a quick hour. Finely crafted observational, and important and topical, humour at its best.
