Thank you to for capturing this moment at The Tower of London this morning.
It’s such an honour to be able to guide clients around this incredible site, full of stories, glamour and gore!
I particularly enjoy guiding the early morning tours because I get to enjoy moments like this, when it feels like I have the whole place to myself.
Can you spot me in this photo?

We all knew this day would come, but I didn’t realise how much it would effect me.

Although I never met this incredible lady, she has been a huge part of my life since I started guiding 12 years ago.

She went from being a little girl who was never supposed to be Queen, to the longest reigning Monarch of English history.

Queen Elizabeth II, you put duty first from the tender age of 21 and continued to do so right to the end.

Rest in peace, Your Majesty and thank you.

When Queen Elizabeth ii was 7 years old her father brought home a new family pet…a corgi! The family named him Dookie and little Lilibet was besotted.
Since the introduction of Dookie, the Queen has never been without one of these playful, protective and Tenacious pets.
As part of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations a Corgi trail treasure Hunt has come to London. It’s called ‘The Queen & Her Corgis’ and comprises of 19 massive corgi statues, each measuring up to two metres in length. You’ll need to solve clues to hunt down each of the individually decorated canines.
Can you guess where this statue of Dookie is?

The Elizabeth Tower is fully back in action and we couldn’t be more pleased.
Did you know, the height of London’s most famous clock tower is the same as 21 of our double decker busses sitting on top of each other?!
It’s also one of London’s most known landmarks, possibly because it has featured in so many movies - it’s even featured in 17 different Disney films!
Have you ever spotted the clock tower in a movie you’ve watched? If so, what was the movie?

What’s the time Mr…Shepard?!

This crazy looking clock is the Shepard’s Gate Clock and can be found outside the Royal Observatory, in Greenwich. It was the first clock to display Greenwich Meantime to the general public and is actually powered by the ‘motor clock’ that can be found in The Time and Longitude Gallery inside the Royal Observatory museum.
Dispute its Roman numerals (which we normally associate with 12 hour clock) this time piece is actually a 24 clock. Which means that at noon the hands of the clock point straight down rather than straight up!

Did you know that, with the use of a transatlantic submarine cable, the motor clock in Greenwich sent signals to other ‘sympathetic clocks’ at Harvard University in the USA, establishing the very first worldwide time network!

Old Father Thames is watching us! He’s the subject of many sculptures in the city of London AND this ships figurehead which can be seen in the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich.
The Maritime Museum is a fabulous place to explore Englands past relationship with the sea and the importance of the The River Thames.

Did you know that at one point the stretch of the river going east from London Bridge was so busy, and full of ships, that you could walk from the north bank of the river to the south by hopping across the decks of all the stationary ships that were waiting to unload their goods!

These steps at the Tower of London were once the most feared steps in the country, as they were the ones that prisoners used to enter the Tower complex to be taken to their cells.
Prisoners would sometimes be sailed to The Tower and enter through ‘Traitors Gate’ which is on the right of this photo. They would then be locked away to await their fate…which, in many cases, ended with a very close up view of the executioners block!
Today these steps are used as a reminder of the darker part of the Towers history.

If you look closely though, you might be able to spot a little duck I saw trying to re-enact a prisoner’s arrival!
Can you see him?

Say ‘Suffragettes’!

London has so many ways of teaching young minds about the past.
Even concepts like women fighting for the right to vote, which can sometimes be tricky to explain to a 6 year old in the 21st Century, are exhibited in ways that they can engage with and appreciate.
I hope Millicent can see how her work has opened up a world of opportunity for this young lady.

Happy accession day to the Queen! It’s been 70 whole years since you came to the throne and you have put duty first since you were just 25 years old.
A truly remarkable achievement. So, to mark the occasion, I spent today showing this young lady (and her little brother) lots of places that have been important to your life as Monarch.
Lots of fun was had by all 🎈.

What a way to end my programme of work for 2021, inside Stonehenge.

It required waking up in the middle of the night and getting soaked in the rain BUT I haven’t been able to do this since before the pandemic, so I’m feeling pretty lucky to be honest!

London old and new, side by side, and showcasing how much has changed in architecture over the last 200 years.

On the right hand side (the structure with the sloping tubes resembling the slide of a Helter Scelter) is the office of the insurance institution Lloyds of London and it was completed in 1986.
The long, low building which stretches through the centre of the photo is Leadenhall Market, a covered market who’s building dates to 1881.

Ever visited Soho square? Originally King’s Square, it was built in the late 1600s and is one of the West End’s most popular park squares.
If you visit on a summer lunchtime, you’ll be met by people looking to escape the office and bask in the sunshine whilst they feast on their sandwiches!

In the centre of the square you’ll also spot a rather charming looking building, which at one point some believed to be a rare remnant of the London of Henry VIII. However, it’s actually MUCH more modern than that and has been used for some interesting purposes over the years.

Surrounding the square are the offices of they type of business you expect to see in London’s entertainment district - 20th Century Fox Film and the British Board of Film Classification to name but a few.
Here you will also find the London office of a music publishing company owned by a VERY famous Liverpudlian.

To find out more about the square and some the famous names associated with it, be sure to join Pete on December 27th at 2pm for his Rock and Roll Through London walking tour.

One of the many perks of being a tour guide in London is that you know all the quiet spots.
Recently I visited the newest roof garden to open here, and boy was I in for a treat!
Amazing views of London and no one else around. 120 Fenchurch Street is very possibly my new favourite place.

It’s also super romantic and a perfect place for that special someone to pop the big question…which is what happened to me last week! 💍🍾🎊

Whilst the rain and snow was coming down outside, I was warm and cosy and in awe of Bath Abbey’s latest offering.

This incredible installation is entitled ’Museum of the Moon’ and was created by the artist Luke Jerram.
It’s is essentially a huge, helium filled, balloon with an incredibly detailed and accurate printed image of the Moons surface on it.
At a scale of 1:500,000 this amazing creation allows us all to study the moons landscape like never before.

Bath Abbey is also putting on a series of festive events, including several concerts, fortunately for me the choir and orchestra were also rehearsing when I arrived!
A truly beautiful moment which will stay with me for years to come.

I was fitted up, gov!

On a recent trip to the new Bow Street Police Museum I got to stand in the actual Dock from Court 2 of the Bow Street Magistrates Court.
Courts 1 and 2 were the busiest, when the Court was still functioning, and saw cases involving notorious east end gangsters The Kray Twins. They had also hosted trials for Dr Crippin (an American homeopath, who was hanged in Pentonville Prison in London for the murder of his wife) AND two ladies who were campaigners for women’s rights in the 1800s, Sylvia and Christabel Pankhurst.

This museum is a must for anyone who is interested in the history of law and order in London.
